Julia Mae Lewis age 93 of Alexandria, died Saturday morning, April 2, 2022 at NHC Healthcare in Murfreesboro. Born Sept. 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Burley and Allie Minnie Owen Hancock and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Clyde Lewis in 2008 and by her sisters, Mary Aline Hayes, Rebecca Ann Hancock and Mary Ann Hancock. Julia is survived by her children, Richard (Betty) Lewis, Marcia (Greg) Denton and Cheryl Lewis; grandchildren, Amanda (Jamie) Huling, Samantha (Matt) Antoniak, Maddie Denton, Lauren (Travis) Ferrell; great grandchildren, Stephen, Daniel and Lexi Maples; nieces and nephews.
Julia worked for many years at Kraft Foods, Norvell Industries and was a homemaker. While her children were in school, she was highly involved in her children’s school activities, including the local PTA as a member and an officer. She loved church and led many different activities, including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and annual Christmas programs. She was also an Elder at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church where she was a member for most of her life.
She enjoyed entertaining her children’s friends in her home, and was well known for her sweet tea, mashed potatoes and pumpkin rolls. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening and a good game of Rook. She genuinely loved people and never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. till service time on Tuesday. Interment will be at Hillview Cemetery in Alexandria. The family wishes to thank the employees and administrative staff of NHC in Murfreesboro for outstanding care.
