Lisa Joyce Carr, a lifelong resident of Smithville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at NHC of Smithville. Born on November 29, 1969, in Smithville, Lisa was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. She was a 1990 graduate of Cookeville High School and a devoted member of the Church of Christ. Despite being bedridden for the last 10 years of her life, Lisa’s spirit and love for her family never wavered.
Lisa’s life was marked by her unwavering faith and the deep bonds she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by a loving and extensive family, including her aunt and uncle, Joyce & James Meadows of Smithville; cousins, Jimmy (Penny) Meadows of Smithville, Bradley (Ashley N.) Harris of Monterey, Ashley L. (India) Harris of Rickman, Sonya (Levi) Phillips of Monterey, Jacob Harris of Monterey, Trevor Harris of Monterey, Michael David White of Baxter, Glen (Jill) Herren of Cookeville, Kevin Thomas of Baxter, and Jared Herren of Silver Point. Lisa also leaves behind her stepmother, Vicky Callahan of Cookeville, and her children, Jonathan Callahan of Cookeville, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Marengo of Cookeville; her aunt, Claudine (Dennis) Tucker of Cookeville, and her uncles, Mickey (Maggie) Carr and Steve Carr, all of Cookeville.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Carolyn Sue Lewis Carr, and her grandparents, Joe and Vera Herren Lewis, as well as Robert and Rosalee Carr. Her family cherishes the memory of her kind-hearted nature and her ability to find happiness in the simplest moments.
Throughout her life, Lisa formed a tapestry of relationships that extended beyond her family. She was known for her gentle spirit and her ability to inspire those around her with her courage and resilience. Her presence was a comforting one, and she will be remembered for her love of life, her faith, and the strength she displayed in the face of adversity.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Denise Dingle and staff, Gentiva Hospice, and the caregivers at NHC of Smithville for their compassionate care and support during Lisa’s final days. Their dedication to her well-being provided comfort not only to Lisa but also to those who loved her.
A funeral service to celebrate Lisa’s life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1 pm at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Harris officiating. The service will be a time for friends and family to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a remarkable woman. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter.
Visitation for Lisa Joyce Carr will be on Saturday from 11 am until the time of service at 1 pm, at the funeral home. It will be an opportunity for those whose lives were touched by Lisa to pay their respects and offer comfort to one another.
Lisa’s legacy is one of love, faith, and perseverance. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to Lisa, we celebrate the life she lived and the impact she made on her community and beyond.
