Mark Carter

Mark Carter age 64 of Smithville, passed away Friday night, April 26, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born February 8, 1955 to his parents, the late Robert Dean and Mary Alice Burdsall Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Derry Carter and Mike Carter. Mark and his wife, Patty are the owners of Mark’s Center Hill Pub and Patty’s Restaurant. He was also a construction worker, former member of AmVets and CM ABATE and was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Patty Carter of Smithville; children, Mary Carter of Smithville, Lisa Sanchez of Murfreesboro, Todd Carter of Indiana, Holly Carter of Indiana, Jason Carter of Indiana, and Steve Carter of Indiana, 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Tim Carter of Indiana. The family has honored Mark’s request to be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Garry Don Walker

71 year old Garry Don Walker of Smithville passed away on Friday at his residence. He was a machine shop foreman. The family has chosen direct cremation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Walker and Joyce Dodson Walker Boyd; a brother, Glen Walker; and a grandson, Jason Brinley. Survivors include his wife, Diana Walker of Smithville. Daughters, Mitzie Iams of Mentor, Ohio; Beverly and Jeff Colwell of Englewood, Florida and Melissa and Shawn O’Neil of Naples, Florida; sons, Daniel and Penny Walker of Mentor, Ohio, Walter and Jodie Walker of Columbus, Ohio, Thomas and Denise Dragovich and John Dragovich all of Naples, Florida. Granddaughters, Leea Walker of Columbus, Ohio, Latasha O’Neil and Leanna O’Neil of Naples, Florida, Diana and Shain Smith of Lehigh, Florida, and Brittani Dragovich of Port St. Lucy, Florida. Grandsons, Michael Garry Walker and Bryan Walker of Columbus, Ohio and Trent Walker of Arizona. Sisters, Peggy and J.R. McCormick, Kay Freeborn, and Barbara Jones all of McMinnville. Brother, Larry and Sharon Walker of Chicago, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Eddie Eudine Walker

April 26, 2019

Eddie Eudine Walker age 58 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday night, April 24, 2019 at his residence.  He was born December 25, 1960 to his parents, Doug and the late Lois Bandy Walker.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by 2 children, Elaine Walker and Greg Page.  He worked at Federal Mogul for 25 years and was a nurseryman and famer.  Eddie was a member of the Church of Christ.  He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Walker of Smithville; 2 children, Waymon (Kim) Walker and Nichole Walker both of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Zackery Walker, Amber Admas, Megan Linder, Chelsye Madden; 7 great-grandchildren, Jaycee, Gavin, Xander, Arian, Wylee, Baylin and Waymon; father, Doug Walker of Smithville; brother, Steve Walker of Smithville; sister, Jeanette Neal of Smithville.  Funeral services will be conducted 2 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Saturday 9:AM until the time of the service at 2  P.M..  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in memory of Eddie.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. 



Luther Johnson “L.J.” Matheny

Campaign, TN resident and Monterey, TN native Luther Johnson “L.J.” Matheny, age 99, was born January 10, 1920 and died April 25, 2019 at Raintree Manor following a brief illness.

Retired from Genesco, a United States Navy veteran of WWII, and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Lozier Lee and Oma Manila Gunter Matheny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Alice Blanche Minton Matheny; second wife, Drue Elizabeth Pinegar Matheny; two sisters, Mildred Grissom and Anna Kent; brother, Paul Matheny; and step-grandson, Laryon Blake.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Sid W. and Joyce Matheny of McMinnville; two granddaughters and spouses, Jessica and Davey Ferrell of Smithville, TN and Felicia and Joey McPeak of Lebanon, TN; two step-grandchildren and spouses, Sandy and Joey Hennessee of Manchester, TN and Eddie and Anita Rains of Antioch, TN; five great-grandchildren and spouses, Krysta and Jacob Pedigo, Keith and Devan Ferrell, Austyn Walls, Colby Walls, and Levi McPeak; two great-great-grandchildren, Teagan Pedigo and Oaklyn Ferrell; four step-great-grandchildren, Charlie Hennessee, Kyle Rains, Caleb Rains, and Cole Rains; and six step-great-great-grandchildren, Eli Hennessee, Audrey Hennessee, McKenzie Rains, Kaylynn Rains, Ellie Rains, and C.J. Rains.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 in High’s Chapel with Jackie Matheny officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery with full military honors administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at High’s.

Betty Jean Jones

Betty Jean Jones age 84 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019 at Skyline Medical Center.  She was born August 7, 1934 to her parents, the late James Edgar and Callie Bain Adcock.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Eston, J.B., Clayton, Eldon and Wilburn Adcock; 4 sisters, Willow Mae Rybka, Myrtle McCormick, Jewel Jones and Shirley Adcock.  She was a retired factory worker, homemaker and attended New Union The Baptist Church.  She is survived by 4 children, Darlene (Ronnie) Pollard, Teresa Robinson, Tony (Patricia) Jones and Cheryl (Darrin) Barnes all of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Kim (Cory) Crabtree, Shannon (Chasity) Pollard, Becky Atnip, Tommie (Sarah) Jones, Connor Jones and Fiance, Sasha Knowles, Brandon (Crystal) Barnes and Blake Barnes; 5 great-grandchildren, Cayden and Addison Kyle, Conner and Trey Crabtree and Kilee Pollard; 2 sisters, Virginia Daniels and Mildred Johnson both of Smithville; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be 11:AM Saturday, April 27, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bryan Jones and Bro. Keith Sims officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 12 Noon until 8 p.m.  and Saturday 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Lawrence David Brock

Lawrence David Brock age 69 of Lascassas went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019. He was born October 24, 1949 to his parents, the late Grant and Stella Dodd Brock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Virgie Waller and 2 brothers, Wayne Branson and Thomas Ray Brock. Lawrence was a Railroad worker and a member of The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Janice Walters Brock of Lascassas; 3 daughters, Shannon (Rev. Christopher) Barnes of Walter Hill, Danielle (Rev. Randell) Smitty of Watertown and Kimberly (Damien) Rednour of Lascassas; 7 grandchildren, Fellecia (Jon) Sherwood, Austin Barnes, Bianca Smitty, Jaxson Smitty, Alaya-Kate Smitty, Adelynn Rednour and Brantley Rednour; 6 great-grandchildren, Adrien Sherwood, Jeremiah Sherwood, Nevaeh Sherwood, Kinsley Sherwood, Savannah Barnes, Hannah Barnes; 1 brother, Luther Brock of Scottsville, KY; 2 sisters, Molly Swift of North Manchester, IN and Peggy Brown of Woodbury. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Thursday, April 25, 2019 at The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro with Rev. Kevin Allen officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM on Thursday at The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Capital Stewardship at The Pentecostal of Murfreesboro, in memory of Mr. Brock.
