Ricky James Stewart

55 year old Ricky James Stewart of Smithville passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a Baptist and mechanic and owner of Rick’s Automotive. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Nathan Thomason will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Rick was a dedicated family man. He was forever in love with his wife. His boys were the highlight of his days. He loved being able to guide them in their adventures and teaching them new things. He was looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his customers and would always make sure they were taken care of. He was a devoted friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Mary Sellars Stewart. Survivors include his wife of 29 years Gail Stewart of Smithville. Two sons, Colt and Lacey Stewart and Hunter and Jessica Stewart of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Syrus and Evie Stewart of Smithville and a sister, Patty Hunter of Cookeville. Several good friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to St. Jude.




Fannie Mae Huntley

Mrs. Fannie Mae Huntley age 81 of Smithville, TN, died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at her residence. She was born October 12, 1936, in Sparta, TN, was retired from McMinnville Garment Company after 35 years and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Huntley was preceded in death by parents Chatt and Anna Mae Breedlove Cannon, husbands Joe Miller Elliott and Robert Howard Huntley, brothers George Ray Cannon, Joe Earl Cannon, and Franklin Cannon, and granddaughter Haley Lemons.

Survivors include her daughter Janice (Rod) Higham, Smithville, TN, step-daughter Kathy (Jeff) Bond, McMinnville, TN, brother Roy Eldridge Cannon of McMinnville, sister Mary Roddy of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren Edward Lemons and Melonie Lemons, and great-grandchildren Preston Lemons, Peyton Lemons, Braxton Page, Alex Lemons, Emma Marshall, and Will Marshall. Several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Roy Wayne Cannon, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Billie Jean (Rigsby) Judkins

Mrs. Billie Jean (Rigsby) Judkins, age 79, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee. Billie was born on August 12, 1938 in Sparta, Tennessee to William Harrison and Lela Mai (Cantrell) Rigsby.

Billie loved the outdoors. While she was outdoors, she enjoyed working in the yard and sitting on her porch watching the wildlife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of children, whom she loved so dearly. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Billy. She cherished greatly the life that she had been blessed with.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her son, Edwin Judkins; sister, Jane Young and grandson, Jason Stinson.
Billie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy Roy Judkins; daughter, Debbie Lifsey (Randall); son, Michael Roy Judkins (Margaret); five grandchildren, Torie Stokes, Katelyn Hayden, Jamie Parker, Mandy Emery, and Mark Judkins; twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home with an additional visitation held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 12pm until the time of service beginning at 1 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Reverend John Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be; Brian Parker, Lance Emery, Christian Stokes, Dylan Stokes, Jeremy Stokes and Matthew Hayden.

Doyle Thomason

Doyle Thomason age 67 of Smithville passed away Wednesday evening May 9, 2018 at NHC HealthCare in Smithville. Doyle was born May 27, 1950 to his parents, the late W.W. Thomason, Jr. and Maudie Chapman Thomason. He was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and a construction worker. Survivors include 1 brother, Bobby (Ruby) Thomason of Smithville; 2 sisters, Patsy (Jessie) Drury and Jennifer (Dwain) Bain both of Smithville; nieces and nephews, B.J. (Beth) Thomason, Clint (Vickie) Thomason, Nathan (Ashlee) Thomason, Ethan Thomason, Logan Thomason, Matt Thomason, Michael (Katie) Caldwell, Devin (Elijah) Thomen, Destiny Caldwell, Monte Caldwell, Michael (Cheyene) Caldwell, Jr., Rachel Edge, Saxon Bain, Grady and Emma Thomason, Alissa, Chevy and Dae Caldwell and Elias Thomen; sister by heart, Debbie McClain; 2 uncles, Toy B. and Cordell Chapman and 1 aunt, Alene Gill. Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Friday, May 11, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. B.J. Thomason and Nathan Thomason officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 6M until 8M and Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 3 PM. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Doyle. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Mike Billings

49 year old Mike Billings of the Johnson Chapel Community of DeKalb County passed away Thursday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Johnson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a retired Detective of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jackie Miller and Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 9 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.; and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Edith Cantrell and Ray and Clara Billings. Survivors include his parents, R.V. and Brenda Billings of DeKalb County. Aunt, Phyllis Cantrell Malone. Special aunts, Janice Cantrell and Deborah Cantrell Luna of DeKalb County, Frances Billings of Warren County, and Alma Billings of DeKalb County and an uncle, Claude Billings of DeKalb County. Jerry Douglas Ashford

Jerry Douglas Ashford age 67 of Smithville passed away Saturday May 5, 2018 at St. Thomas West in Nashville. He was born August 4, 1950 to the late John and Maggie Johnson Ashford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James Ashford, Owen Ashford, and Wayne Ashford. Mr. Ashford was a farmer and affiliated with the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianne Ashford of Smithville; 2 children, Jeff (Melodie) Ashford of McMinnville, and Debbie (Mark) Delaney of Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Dalton Ashford, Bailey Ashford, Addison Delaney, and Patience Delaney; 2 sisters, Mildred Murphy of Smithville and Freda (Burnell) Maxwell of Grundy County. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Ashford will be held 2 PM Monday May 7, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Leonard Herman and Jonathan Puckett officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday 1 PM until 8 PM and on Monday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
