Regina G. Malone

Regina G. Malone age 69 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday evening October 16, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was born January 31, 1955 to her parents, the late, Will T. and Bobbye Ruth Taylor Fish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Torie Stacey. Regina was a factory worker and attended the Smithville Church of God. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 children, Tara Stacey of Smithville and Travis Malone of Nashville; 2 grandchildren, Taitum (William) Carpenter and Talan Gentry; 1 sister, Diana Fish Clayborn of Smithville; 2 brothers, Galen (Darschell) Fish of Carthage and Michael (Tabatha) Fish of Brush Creek. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, October 20, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel wit Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow at Hillview Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Malone family.




James Russell Watson

October 16, 2024

James Russell Watson, age 79, of Smithville, passed away at the Webb House on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Born on August 5, 1945, in Woodbury, TN, he was the son of the late James Augusta and Lois Blankenship Watson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jill Watson.

Russell was a dedicated agriculture teacher at Warren County High School, where he inspired students for 44 years. He was a devout member and elder of the Smithville Church of Christ, where he contributed significantly to the community. His passion for agriculture and education was evident through his involvement with the NAAE, FFA, and the Middle TN Iris Society. He earned his master’s degree from Tennessee State University.

Russell is survived by his loving family, including his daughter, Kelly (Andrew) Evans of Alamo, and his sons, Kurt (Emily) Watson of Lascassas, Kyle (Jennifer) Watson of Columbia, and Craig Watson of Nashville. He was a proud grandfather to Robyn Evans, Kate Evans, Joy Evans, Claire Evans, Lillian Watson, Everett Watson, Britton Watson, and Ruby Watson. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (Mike) Gantt of Indiana and Jeanne (David) Smith of Murfreesboro, along with numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation with the Watson family will be held in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Saturday from 4pm-8pm and on Sunday at Smithville Church of Christ from noon until the time of service at 2pm. Burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating.

Kathleen Mahler

October 16, 2024

Kathleen Mahler, age 87, of Sparta, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Life Care Center in Sparta. She was born on April 28, 1937 in Smithville, TN, she was a dedicated member of Johnson Chapel Baptist Church and worked as a cafeteria worker for the DeKalb School Systems.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Emma Lee Taylor Johnson; her husband, Hubert Mahler; her sister, Dorothy Haggard; her brothers, Ray Johnson and Jerry Johnson; and her daughter-in-law, Angel Mahler.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Randall Mahler of Smithville, Ronnie (Frances) Mahler of Smithville, Peggy (Iven) Craven of Rock Island, and Donna Mahler of Smithville. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, including Craig (Sabrina) Mahler of Gallatin, Cathleen (JD) Humphrey of Smithville, Jason (Chasity) Mahler of Rock Island, Thomas Mahler of Algood, Joshua Craven of Rock Island, Cansadie (Brenden) Ebner of Murfreesboro, Taylor (Eric) Dodd of Smithville, and Nena Youngblood of Smithville, as well as 19 great grandchildren. Her sister, Era (Harold) Billings of Sparta, also survives her.

Visitation with the family will be held in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-7pm and on Friday from 10am until the time of service at noon. Bro. Craig Mahler will officiate, and burial will follow in Peeled Chestnut.




Shirley Jane Roller

October 16, 2024

Shirley Jane Roller age 75 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born December 23, 1948 in Belle Glade, Florida. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Lance Stewart; husband, John Roller, Sr., daughter, Sarah Grizzle; grandson, Josh Reece and sister, Joanie Bugher. She was a homemaker, nursery worker and a Chirstian. She leaves to cherish her memory, 5 children, Glenda (James) Hale of Woodbury, Sheila Chapman of Smithville, John (Michele) Roller of Smithville, Donnie (Jennifer) Roller of Smithville and Ronnie Roller of Smithville; son-in-law, Scotty Grizzle of Murfreesboro; 15 grandchildren, Michael Roller, Amanda Roberts, Brenda Tramel, Heather Musick, Samantha Rohling, Johnna Roller, Kaitlyn Roller, Logan Roller, Ethan Roller, Dylan Roller, Brooke Roller, Kyra Wood, Dallas Roller, Sadey Grizzle and Slade Grizzle; 30 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Diane Ravy, Wanda Mackey, Sherry Ann (Keith) Rosen and Tammy (Jeff) Thigpen all of Georgia and a host of nieces and nephews. The family has honored Ms. Shirley’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 12:Noon Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Kingdom of Jesus Church with Bro. Glenn Chapman officiating. Dr. Victor Karl Phillips

October 14, 2024

Dr. Victor Karl Phillips age 84, of the Short Mountain Community, passed away Tuesday night October 8, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 6, 1940, to his parents the late James Patton and Evelyn Hutchison Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a Clinical Psychologist for 30 years. He is survived by 2 sons: Dr. Jonathan Lokey of Greenville, SC, and Nikoli Lokey of Demorest, Georgia; 2 fur girls: Mae and Jill; sister: Tina Kirkpatrick of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Friends and Neighbors also survived.  Burial for Dr. Phillips will be held 2:PM Thursday October 10, 2024, on his farm. There will be no visitation or services held at the funeral home for Dr. Phillips.  A special Thank you to Gentevia Hospice Staff for the love and care shown to Dr. Phillips during his sickness. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Dr. Phillips. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Phillips family.




J C Fish

Mr. J C Fish age 87 of Humboldt, TN passed away on Friday, October, 11, 2024 at Milan General Hospital.

Mr. Fish was born on December 31, 1936 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late Jim & Ena Vanatta Fish. Also preceding him in death is his son, Jimmy Reed Fish & several brothers & sisters. He was a Carpenter and was a member of New Shiloh Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October, 15, 2024 at 3:30pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 3pm-7pm & Tuesday from 1pm until the service time at 3:30pm.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Charlene Fish of Humboldt, TN. 3 Sons, Paul Fish of Murfreesboro, TN, Robert Fish of Humboldt, TN & Cody Fish of Union City, TN. 2 Daughters, Janice Taylor of Murfreesboro, TN & Evelyn Fish of Sparta, TN. 14 Grandchildren & several Great GrandChildren. 2 Sisters, Georgia Faye (Jerry) Emerson of MI & Kathy (Bobby) Vaughn of Murfreesboro, TN. Sister-in-law, Sandy Warren of Shelbyville, TN.
