Katherine Jean Goodwin Johnson age 81 of Donelson, passed away Monday morning November 9, 2020 at TriStar Summit Hospital in Hermitage. She was born November 12, 1938 to her parents, the late Jarvis and Dellie Hendrix Goodwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Johnson; 8 siblings, Alma, Elsie, James, Roy, Nettie, Walter, Sue and Orvil. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. Ms. Katherine did factory work and was a homemaker, however her greatest enjoyment was being grandmother and babysitting her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children, Ricky (Terri) Johnson of Mt. Juliet, Vickey (Joel) Carr of Donelson and Mickey Johnson of Donelson; 3 grandchildren, Matt (Dana) Johnson, Jennifer (Eric) Roberts, Kimberly (Jim) Ledford; 8 great-grandchildren, Gabe and Micah Johnson, Anna and Dean Roberts, Emery Jane and Ellis Patterson, David and Dallas Ledford; several nieces and nephews also survive. There will be a private graveside service held for Ms. Katherine at Whorton Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in memory of Ms. Johnson. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Clyde Bradley Nokes age 91 of the Short Mountain Community, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born December 13, 1928 to his parents, the late Shelah and Gertrude Derting Nokes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rayburn Nokes and sister, Dorothy Bryant. He was a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ and a TV repairman. Clyde played music for over 80 years. He is survived by 4 sons, Gerry (Rita) Nokes of Short Mountain, Nicholas (Patsy) Nokes of Liberty, Billy (Kathy) Nokes of Short Mountain and Jeffery (Maureen) Nokes of Short Mountain; 8 grandchildren, Tonya (Bill) Melton, Stephanie (Tommy) Alexander, Nicholas (Susan) Nokes, Jr., Wesley Nokes, Natasha (James) Anderson, Sarah (Derrick) Arnold, Hannah Nokes and fiance Mike Hartman, Jeffery (Shannon) Nokes, II; 13 great-grandchildren, Jacob Melton, Erica (Josh) Shores, Jarrett Melton, Rachel Alexander, Luke Alexander, Matthew Nokes, Lucas Nokes, Lakelynn Anderson, Noah Anderson, Koen Bradley Nokes, Chloe Nokes, Anna Nokes, and Miles Nokes; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Allie Melton and Chloe Melton; 1 sister, Oleta Bullard of Murfreesboro; special nephew, Charles Nokes of Short Mountain and special friends, Gloria Steward and Jesteen Brown. Graveside services and interment will be 1 PM Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Melton Cemetery at Short Mountain with Gary Hancock officiating. Visitation will be Friday 4 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home. There will not be any visitation on Saturday, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service at 1 PM. Due to COVID-19 and Social Distancing Guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and No food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gassaway Community Center in memory of Clyde. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

BIO:
Clyde Nokes was born on December 13th 1928 to the Gassaway community. He began his music career at age 5 when his parents bought him a guitar from Sears and Roebuck for $5.00. Two ladies took an interest in him and taught him some cords and he started from there to go on and perform for over 8 decades. He and his brother Rayburn played together for many years He formed close relationships with local musicians and even formed a band named The Short Mountain Boys and Girls. He played music throughout the communities of Gassaway, Smithville, Woodbury, and many others. He played with countless Grand Ole Opry stars to include Benny Martin, Michael Cleveland, Curly Fox, Buddy Spiker, Ernie Ashford, Johnny and Bob Campbell, Billy Womack, Speedy Grissom, Harry Smith, Benny Williams, Earnest and Dean Rubley, Randall Smith, Homer Hodge, George Asbury, Rayburn Simmons, Mitchell Fuston, Ronny Loftis, Jerry Lee Cantrell and boys, and many many more. He was a frequent performer at the Gassaway Homecoming and Smithville Jamboree. He played on the local record called the Smithville Jail. He even played a role in a movie called Nashville 99. On February 18th 2016 he was honored by the Governor and state of Tennessee, and Cannon County Executive Mike Gannon proclaimed March 18th as “Clyde Nokes Day”.
Clyde married Maxine Hale on April 23, 1949 in Mississippi. They had 4 wonderful sons, Gary, Nick, Bill, and Jeff. He and the boys played music together every time they were together whether it be Christmas, Thanksgiving, and even birthdays.
Clyde was a business owner of his own radio and TV repair shop. He worked at colonial bread baking in Nashville, he and his dad, Shelah, owned at the general store in Sycamore, and he worked with his mom and dad at Nokes’ General Story in Liberty TN.
Clyde was respected and loved by many in all communities that he was a part of. Everybody knew of the famous Clyde Nokes from Short Mountain TN.

Mrs. Debbie Bishop, age 68, of Alexandria, TN, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

Mrs. Bishop was born April 15, 1952 in Smithville, TN, the daughter of the late Harvey Braxton Malone and Eva Ray Parkerson. She married Danny Bishop on January 27, 1997 and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2017. She was also preceded in death by Siblings; Roy Lee Malone, Billy Malone, Robert Donald Malone, and Frances Moss. Debbie graduated from Dekalb County High School in 1970. Mrs. Bishop was a member of the West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria, TN.

Mrs. Bishop is survived by Sister; Jimmie (David) Carter of Alexandria, TN. Step-daughters; Angela (Gale) Sanders of Lewisburg, TN, and Sharon Glover of Carthage, TN. Grandchildren; Brian (Jen) Dillehay, Megan Watson, and Andrea Glover. Great-grandchildren; Ava, Ethan, Malorie, Owen, and Liam. Brother-in-Law; Wayne (Paulette) Bishop of Maggart, TN. Sister-in-Law; Loretta Malone of Alexandria, TN, and Betty Jean Malone of Dowelltown, TN. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bishop are scheduled to be conducted from the Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria, TN, on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 1PM. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be at Avant Funeral Home on Friday from 4PM until 7PM and on Saturday after 10AM until service time at 1PM.

The family requests memorials be made to the West Main Baptist Church Children’s Fund.

75 year old Thomas Gordon Green of Sparta passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta.

He was a retired machine operator with Texas Boot. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Visitation with the family will be at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 11: 00 am to 8:00 pm and on Friday, November 6 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Brother Dan Gulley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, John Dowie and Mettie Emma Neely Green; one brother, Paul Green; and two sisters, Christine Adcock and Elsie Stienbach. He is survived by one son, Robbie Green of Sparta; two daughters, Amy Green of Florida and Jamie Green of Jasper, Tennessee; four grandsons,Robbie Dale Green, Jr. and Devin Lynn Green, both of Smithville, Cody Maples and Thomas Garrett Richards, both of Jasper, TN; two granddaughters, Leigha Kay Green, of Smithville and Megan Richards of Dresden, TN; seven brothers and sisters, Joyce (Chester) Carmon of Shepherdsville, KY, Sara Adcock of Readyville, TN, James (Ginny) Green of Spring Hill, TN, John (Judie) Green of Walling, TN, Donna Faye Cantrell, Eddie (Carol) Green, and Jack (Deana) Green, all of Smithville; one brother-in-law, Albert Adcock of Smithville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Corinth Cemetery Fund in memory of Thomas.

Ms. Wetonna “Winnie” Wagers, age 72 of Smithville, TN passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Winnie was born on July 5, 1948 in Lafayette , Indiana to her parents, the late Earl & Helen Saylors. She was a Homemaker and had retired from K-Mart. She was a member of the Bethlehem Community Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 4pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2pm until the service time at 4pm on Friday. Bro. Steve Keaton will officiate. Social distancing is requested and masks are required to attend the visitation and the service. No food will be accepted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, A.T. Wagers. 2 Grandchildren, Matthew & Michael. 1 Great Grandchild & several Brothers & Sisters. Survivors include, 5 Children, Ronidona “Missi” Murvin of Smithville, TN, Jennifer (Gary) Ream Phebus of Ill., Tonya Conner of FL, Ronald, Jr. (Mon) Ream of NC, Joseph Ream of IN. Grandchildren, Nathaniel, Summer-Lynn, Holly, Ricky, Chris, James, Eddie, Bradley, Tyler, Logan, Mackey, Brodie & Kiya. 2 Great Grandchildren. 4 Siblings, Sonny Saylors, Lyndon Saylors, Janet (Jake) West & Wanda West.

Mr. Brad Dewayne Driver, age 47 of Smithville, TN passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his residence.

Brad was born on June 26, 1973 in Lebanon, TN to his mother, the late Opal Lawson Glover. He was a member of Emmanuel Bread of Life Church in Lebanon.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 2pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 10am until the service time at 2pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are temporarily not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Survivors include 1 great uncle, Jimmy Arnold of Smithville; 1 great aunt, Joan and George Hamilton of Smithville; Special caregiver, Marlene Goodwin of Dowelltown; Several cousins and friends also survive.
