Barry Jackson Hayes

Barry Jackson Hayes age 74 of Lancaster passed away Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.  He was born December 6, 1944 to his parents, the late Auval Jackson and Helen Rose Jennings Hayes, Jr.  He was a Shriner for 50 years, Master Mason of the Center Hill Lodge #77 and worked in construction.  Survivors include 2 sons, Ashley (Amy) Hayes of Smithville and Chad Hayes of Lebanon; Sister, Karen Hayes of Murfreesboro; Nieces, Brittany Hackney and Rose Reynolds; Great-niece, Avelynn Hackney.  A Masonic service will be held Saturday September 14, 2019 at 1:PM and a  memorial service will follow at  2:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be 12:PM until time of service at 2:PM. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Margaret Mai Judkins

Margaret Mai Judkins age 66 of Smithville passed away Wednesday morning September 4, 2019 at her residence. She was born May 10, 1953 to her parents, the late Roy Dare and Lila Durham Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother Grady Taylor. She was a member of New Union Baptist Church and self-employed as a bookkeeper. Funeral service will be held 2:PM Sunday September 8, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Keith Sims officiating and burial to follow in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held with the family Saturday 11:AM until 8:PM and Sunday 10:AM until the time of service at 2:PM. Survivors include Husband: Wendell Judkins of Smithville; Son: Will Dustin (Britni) Judkins of Smithville; Grandchildren: Liliana, Khloe Judkins; Sister: Freda (Sonny) Whaley of Smithville; Brothers: Paul (Wanda) Taylor of Smithville, Ricky Taylor of Florida; Sisters-in-law: Denise Monks, Kimberly Basham, and Diane Taylor; Several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Timothy “Fud” Banks

Timothy “Fud” Banks age 62 passed away Tuesday September 3, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was born September 6, 1956 to his parents the late Charles and Anna Barks Banks. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Deborah Banks, Jr. Fud was a former Police Officer, former Property Assessor, and self-employed. He is survived by his wife, Angela Banks of Smithville; children, Autumn Banks and (Travis Holland), Anthony (Amanda) Hasemann, Jason Sturdivant and (Jessica Adams) all of Smithville; grandchildren, Jayden, Elisabeth, Revin and Coraline Sturdivant; sisters, Freda (Kenneth) Pinegar of Smithville, Anna (Jerry) Palmer of Baxter, and Joy Lynn (Trent) Whitman of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Saturday September 7, 2019 at 1 PM with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday 12 PM until 8 PM and on Saturday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Mary Kathleen Violet

Mary Kathleen Violet age 77 of Smithville, passed away Saturday August 31, 2019 at her residence in Smithville. She was born February 21, 1942 to her parents, the late Collie R. and Angie Townsend Mattox. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Richard Daniel, Carlean and Edward White, Vola and Wheeler Phillips, and Elaine Mattox; brothers, Noel Mattox, Austin Mattox, Collie Mattox, JR., and Clay Mattox. Mrs. Violet was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and she loved fishing. She was Primitive Baptist from her youth and a member of Mt. View Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Violet was the co-owner and manager of Granny’s Goldmine, diamond, gold and silver sales. Mrs. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Bro. Paul Violet of Smithville; children, Rick (Joyce) Violet of Lawrenceburg, David (Rebecca) Violet of Cookeville, Mark (Kim) Violet of Smithivlle, and Kathy (Randy) O’Connor of Franklin; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Lucille (Bobby) Franklin of Columbia, Hazel Perry of Lawrenceburg; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 6:PM Monday, September 2, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Kevin Rhody and Bro. Ricky Arnold officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 12 Noon at Second Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Five Points, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be Monday September 2, 2019 at 3:PM until the time of the service at 6:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jessie Lee Vanatta

August 31, 2019

93 year old Jessie Lee Vanatta of Liberty passed away Friday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Thurman Seber and David Moody will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents,  J.W. Robinson and Shellie Cooper Robinson; her husband of 50 years Buford Neal Vanatta; two brothers, Truitt Robinson and Stephen Edward Robinson; a sister Melodia Mathis; four brothers-in-law, Austin Rhody, Walter Carter, Elzie McBride, and Earnest Mathis. She is survived by children,  Jerry Paul and Gay Vanatta of Watertown, Joyce and John David Foutch of Alexandria, Patsy and Nick Nokes of Liberty, and Kristie Vanatta of Smithville. Grandchildren, Libby and Daniel Kelly, Jeremy and Sarah Vanatta, Ethan and Giuliani Vanatta, Jennifer and Eric Hogeland, Daniel and Lacy Foutch, and Nick and Susan Nokes. Seven great grandchildren. A brother, Robert and Roberta Robinson of Liberty. Sisters, Lena Rhody, Bertha McBride, and Lavelle and Willie Turner. Sister-in-law, Margie Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry Donald Hibdon

August 29, 2019

Jerry Donald Hibdon passed away Tuesday, August 27th, 2019, at Maury Regional Hospital. He was born in Smithville, TN on December 31st, 1942 and was 76 years old.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and brother. He was an avid golfer and a friend to all and stranger to none and would always tell you a joke. Jerry was a man of faith and a member of First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, TN. Jerry attended Martin Methodist College along with Bethel College and MTSU where he received his Masters Degree in Physical Education. He was a well-respected coach and teacher at several different schools during his lifetime. He was inducted to the Sports Hall of Fame at both Martin Methodist College and Bethel College. In 1975, Jerry and his wife, Wendy partnered in the ownership and operation of Sports World Sporting Goods, a community giving, family owned business, which they owned and operated solely from 1982 until their retirement in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28th from 1:00pm until 4:00pm with a Celebration of life following at First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his,
Wife, Wendy Hibdon of Pulaski.
Sons, Jeff Hibdon and wife Jennifer of Decatur, AL, Todd Hibdon and wife Shana of Pulaski.
Grandchildren, Sophie Hibdon, Will Hibdon, and Carter Hibdon
Brother, John L (Vickie) Hibdon of Mt. Juliet, TN
Sister, Nina (James) Moss of Yorktown, VA
Sister, Joyce Mullinax of Smithville, TN
Sister-in-law, Sue Hibdon of Rockvale, TN
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
