Danny Franklin George

Danny Franklin George age 77 of Smithville, passed away at his residence Monday, December 25, 2023. He was born April 8, 1946, to his parents the late William Floyd and Marie Allen George. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Rickey George. Mr. George was of the Baptist Faith, served in the United States Army, and retired from TVA after 33 years. Danny loved being on the water fishing and for a longtime he also enjoyed golfing. He is survived by his wife of 58 years JoAnn George of Smithville; 1 son, Chris George of Flat Rock, AL,; daughter, Jennifer (Del) Hacker of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Kennedy George, Eric George, and Garett George; step great-granddaughter, Karsyn Hacker; 1 sister, Fay Szalay of Rossville, TN. The family has honored Mr. George’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Saturday January 6, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bernard Houk officiating and Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Saturday, January 6, 2024 12 Noon until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Lloyd Glenn Rigsby

Lloyd Glenn Rigsby age 72, of Smithville passed away at his residence Monday December 25, 2023. He was born November 25, 1951, to his parents the late Jewel Brown “Red” and Elizabeth Pascal Rigsby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Wanda Rigsby Vanatta; daughter, Gayle Thomas; grandson, Jeffery Rigsby; granddaughter, Erica Bullard; brothers, Ronald Dean Rigsby, James “Jim” Rigsby, Floyd Lynn Rigsby, Danny Marlin Rigsby, Donald “Donnie” Rigsby, and Billy Joe Rigsby. Mr. Rigsby was a member of Keltonburg United Methodist Church, served in United States Army, and worked in Nursery. He is survived by children, Trina Hernandez, Christopher Rigsby, Aubrey Rigsby and Heather Ingram; grandchildren, Michael Bullard, Phillip Thomas, Randall Ingram, Helen Winchel; great-grandchildren, Audrey Beth and Jaxon Winchel; sisters, Margie Miller and Melissa King both of Smithville; brother, Bob (Vanessa) Rigsby of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive; special friends, Gidget and Mark Malone, and Matt Brown. The family has honored Mr. Rigsby’s request to be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Sally Colwell

Sally Colwell age 73, of Smithville passed away at her daughter’s residence Thursday, December 21, 2023. She was born December 19, 1950, to her parents the late, Abe and Lena Holt Harbin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Colwell; grandson, Gary Shuttleworth; siblings, Nancy Marie, Andy Lee, Maggie Sue Gray, Betty Pearl, Faye Harbin, and Linda Kaye. Ms. Sally attended Coopers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and worked at the Pharmacy at Wal-Mart. She is survived by 3 daughters, Rhonda (Royce) Moore of Dowelltown, Renae Edmonds and Yvonne (Shannon) Hale both of Smithville; step-sons, James (Christy) Colwell and Lee (Cora) Colwell; grandchildren, Jayrah (Adam) Nunley of Murfreesboro, Leah Cooper of Smithville, Bobby O’Conner, Jr., of Smithville, Michael Shuttleworth of Nashville, Kathryn and Kaleb Hale of Smithville; step-grandchildren, Evangeline, Amalie, Vienne, and Julien Colwell and Avery Colwell; great-grandchildren, Benjamin O’Conner and Shelby Jo Hensley; siblings, Lena Wilkerson of Smithville, Ann Austin of Savannah, TN, Dexter (Judy) Harbin of Adams, TN, Benny Harbin of Huntington, TN., Paul Harbin of West, TN.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 11:AM Saturday December 23, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gary Caplinger officiating and burial to follow in Plainview Cemetery in White County. Visitation will be Friday 4 PM till 7 PM and Saturday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Cynthia Ann Hill

December 17, 2023

Cynthia Ann Hill, age 71 of the Short Mountain Community of Cannon County passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born December 31, 1951 to her parents, the late Thomas Ross and Inas Irene Beatty Hill, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Hill. She was a Methodist and worked in retail for 14 years, drafter 6 years, customer service rep and store manager. She was a member of the Short Mountain Fire Dept and a Girl Scout Leader. Cynthia enjoyed working with people in all aspects of her life, customers, neighbors, girl scouts and their families. She was very creative and spent many hours in building and selling her crafts. She took care of her sister Mary until she passed and missed her dearly. She also loved her dog and cat. She is survived by 2 brothers, Thomas Ross (Janice W.) Hill, Jr.; Robert Anthony Hill; nephew, Thomas W. Hill. The family has honored her request to be cremated. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Joyce Wanda Foster Hall

Joyce Wanda Foster Hall age 86 of the Statesville Community and a longtime resident of Abbeville, AL, passed away Friday afternoon December 15, 2023, at the home of her nephew. She was born June 9, 1937, in Smithville, to her parents the late Alvie Rosco and Mattie Lee Puckett Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Warren Hall; brothers, John and Rosco Foster; sister, Juanita Redmon; nephews, Mitchell, Mark and Jeff Redmon. She was a member of the Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was a salesperson with Walmart and Form Fit Rogers. She is survived by 4 nieces, Vicky Brannon, Jan Sparks, Annette Foster, and Susan Green; 3 nephews, Perry Redmon, Tim Redmon and Tony Foster; several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12:Noon Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 12:Noon. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




John Thomas Mynatt

December 14, 2023

John Thomas Mynatt, a dedicated family man and accomplished finance professional, passed away on December 7, 2023, in Nashville, TN, at the age of 77.

John was born on July 6, 1946, in Atlanta, GA to William Owen Mynatt and Rachel Hardin Mynatt. On October 6, 1973, he married Patricia Shepherd Mynatt, and they shared over 50 years of love and companionship. Together they navigated life’s adventures, from raising 3 daughters and working with each other in finance to exploring the world through travel.

John is survived by his wife Pat, 3 daughters, Marcy Trimble (Justin), Nicole Bickerstaff (Ripley) all of Nashville, and Corinne Mynatt of London UK, along with 4 grandsons, Ripley Jr, John, Ford Bickerstaff, and Lochlan Trimble. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Beverly Oxford (Gerry), niece Ashley Oxford of Los Angeles CA, and nephew Graham Oxford of New York.

John’s legacy extends beyond his 50 plus years of professional accomplishments. He was a devoted member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman. A lover of old cars, nostalgic about old Nashville, and devoted to spending quality time with his family. His favorite tunes from the Beach Boys, echoing from his youth as the lead singer of local cover band, Beechnuts, are a testament to his vibrant spirit.

John spent time as the Assistant Director of Finance under Mayor Richard Fulton and oversaw the Employee Benefit Board, leaving a positive impact on public service.

He will be remembered for his outgoing nature, perseverance, and charm. His admirable qualities touched the lives of many. He faced adversity with a strong work ethic, competitive spirit, and a 30-year battle against lupus, showcasing resilience and determination.

A visitation will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Noon, followed by a service in the Nave at 1:30 pm. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUPUS FOUNDATION, The Salvation Army, and the Nashville Rescue Mission.
