Phyllis Ann Miner

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Miner, age 64 of Alexandria, passed away Thursday night, January 11, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a retired hotel desk clerk and formerly of Nashville.

Mrs. Miner was born on April 16, 1959 in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard L. Miner and Beverly Ann Rogers and one son, Mario Harrison.

The family has chosen direct cremation and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Holman (Juli White) of Alexandria, 3 grandchildren, Heavenlee White, Ayden White and Roman White all of Nashville and one brother, George Rogers of Orlinda, TN.

Thomas Claston Beltz

January 12, 2024

Thomas Claston Beltz age 30, of Sparta passed away Wednesday January 10, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born December 25, 1993, to his parents, Charles and Connie Hill Beltz. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Donna Beltz, and Claston and Frona Hill and other extended family. Mr. Beltz served in the United States Marines 2nd Battalion, 10th Division Artillery, Semper Fi. He is survived by his wife, Meaghan Beltz of Florida; parents, Charles and Connie Beltz of Smithville; brother, Hudson (Alyssa) Beltz of Sparta; nieces, Ari Beltz, Remi Beltz, and Josie Beltz; grandparents, Ray and Sharon Carter of North Carolina; mother-in-law, Liberty; siblings-in-law, Tobi and Gary; his fur baby, Tucker; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; extended family and his Brothers In Arms. The family is honoring his request to be cremated and A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Sunday, January 14, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Friends and Family officiating, Military Honors following. Visitation will be Sunday 10:30 AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Beltz family.




Patricia Lorine Mathis

January 10, 2024

Mrs. Patricia Lorine Mathis, age 53 of Sparta, passed away Sunday evening at her residence. She was a homemaker.

She was born on January 20, 1970 in Murfreesboro, TN. Her parents were William Freeman George and Hilda Mae Bogle who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Landon Lynn Mathis.

The family has chosen direct cremation and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Survivors include 1 bother, Ronnie Doyle Farless of Bradyville, 1 sister, Hilda Reana (Brad) Marsh of Sparta, special friend, Judy (Aaron) Highsmith of Smithville, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

The family has asked that donations please be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.




Brenda Kay Driver

January 9, 2024

Brenda Kay Driver age 69, of Smithville, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at NHC Healthcare of Smithville. She was born September 30, 1954, to her parents the late, Elbert “Les” and Frances Lorene Kelly Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry “Red” Foster. Ms. Brenda was a Christian and worked at Kingston Timers for 35 years. She is survived by son, Chad (Tara) Driver of Smithville; granddaughters, Caroline and Lillie Cate Driver; brother, Prentice (Jan) Foster of Sparta; niece, Loren (Will) Martin of Brimingham, AL; nephew, Jalon Foster (Cameron Bryant) of Sparta; great-niece and nephew, London and Korbyn. Funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Abram Edwards officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM till 7 PM and Thursday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp in memory of Brenda. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Vona Mable Ballew Davis

Vona Mable Ballew Davis age 83, passed away January 6, 2024, at N H C Healthcare Smithville. She was born February 21, 1940 to her parents the late, Norman and Lovie Selby Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Marie Ballew Barrett; siblings, Virgie Simmons, Buster Simmons, Ethel Hedges, Irene Taylor, Vitalla Emery, Vena Davis, and Merle Simmons; the father of her children, Beacher Ballew. Ms. Mable was of the Baptist Faith and worked as Sales Represenative for Dollar General Store. She is survived by her son, Hank (Charlotte) Ballew of Clarksville; grandchildren, Hank (Lisa) Ballew, JR., of Clarksville, Tressa (Lewis) Lastik of Clarksville, Brad (Holly) Williams of Cookeville, Keisha (Tony) Smith of Sparta, Nikki Barrett of Gallatin; great-grandchildren, Zackary Smith, Gavin and Tyler Williams, and Nicholas (Cainey) Ballew, Jack Elliot Ballew; great-great-grandchild, Judy Bee Ballew; brothers, David Simmons of FL and Frank Simmons of VA. The family has honored Ms. Mable’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11;00AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Glenn Nixon

Glenn Nixon age 67, of Smithville passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital, ER. He was born October 31, 1956 to his parents the late, James Fletcher and Shirley Nixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-son, Chris Turner; step-daughter, Jessica Ann Flint; mother of his children, Robin Carlene Creel; and his 2nd wife, Ovis Ann Nixon. Mr. Nixon worked as Self-employed Plumber. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Nixon of Smithville; son, George (Nikki) Nixon of AL.; grandchildren, Natalie Nixon, Blakelee Nixon; step-grandchild, Mason Westbrook; brother, Fletcher (Sue) Nixon of GA.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John (Kerri) Turner of Smithville; step-daughter, Jenny Baker; step-son, Paul Flint; 3 step-children, Jenny Hall, Lorie Rupp, and LeAnn Maretti. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 8, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, with John Adam Turner officiating and burial to follow in Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
