Bro. Royce Moore

Rev. Royce Jackson Moore age 92, of Smithville, was born May 23, 1931 to his parents, the late Rev. Thomas Walker and Lillie Mae Waggoner Moore, and went to his Heavenly reward on Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2023.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruby Jewel Moore and Reba Page; 3 brothers, Earnest Moore, Rev. David Moore and Thomas Walker Moore, Jr.  He was a longtime member of the New West Point Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Pastor 45 years.  He had the Way of Life radio ministry for 28 years.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby Trobaugh Moore of Smithville; 3 children, Eddie (Anita) Moore, Ellen (Jeff) Herrin and Dwight (Angie) Moore all of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Adam (Bethany) Moore, Andrew (Rachel) Moore, Mitchell (Amanda) Herrin, Carrie (Caleb) Baines, Jacob (Megan) Moore, Caleb (Emily) Moore; 10 great-grandchildren, Ariana Herrin, Maggie, Millie, Franklin, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Rubie Moore, Carson and Charlotte Moore, Ira Baines and baby boy Walker Moore due in February; 1 brother, Rev. Jerry (Donna) Moore and 2 sisters, Nina Hart and Stacy Foster and many additional nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be Sunday 3:pm until 8:pm and Monday 10:am until the time of the service at 1:pm.  Funeral services will be 1:pm Monday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial with Military Honors will be at DeKalb Cemetery.  In addition to flowers, the family requests donations be made to New West Point Freewill Baptist Church, in memory of Bro. Royce.  Those donations may be made by calling or coming by the funeral home or mail to 2293 Midway Road, Smithville.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Mr. Boyd Trapp

November 5, 2023

Mr. Boyd Trapp, age 78 of Smithville, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at St. Thomas West. Boyd was a faithful member of Tabernacle The Baptist Church where he served many roles including song leader and former Sunday School Superintendent. He was retired from McMinnville Powermatic and Smithville Middle TN Natural Gas. In retirement, he kept busy mowing yards and was a jack of all trades. His personality and infectious laugh will truly be missed.

Mr. Boyd was born on June 8, 1945 in Smithville, TN to his parents, Clarence and Louella Caplinger Trapp, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Duane Trapp; grandson, Daymon Trapp; 4 sisters, Oleda Duke, Louaudrey Malone, JoAnn Baker, and Peggy Agee; 3 brothers, Johnny Trapp, Mason Trapp, and Donald Trapp.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 11am-8pm and on Tuesday from 9am until the time of service at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Wood and Bro. Garry McBride will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Linda Chapman Trapp of Smithville; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Darrel (Janet) Trapp of Dowelltown; 1 sister, Judy Johnson of Liberty; 1 brother-in-law, Vincent “V.L.” Baker of Smithville; 1 granddaughter, Jayrah Trapp of Dowelltown; 1 grandson, Jamison Trapp of Dowelltown; daughter-in-law, Audrey Trapp of Smithville; step grandchildren, Edward Dillard and Jolene Dillard; 4 step great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Hattie Emaline Johnson Dickens

November 4, 2023

Hattie Emaline Johnson Dickens, age 74 of Smithville, passed away November 1, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. She was a Christian and faithful and active member of Smithville First Free Will Baptist Church where she served in many roles over the years, with her favorites being Sunday school teacher and director of the church Christmas play. She was born November 23, 1948 to her parents, the late Henry Jackson Johnson and Helen Emaline Pack Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Orgie Dean Bates, Doris Adams, Jo Dean Moore and brothers Willie James Johnson and Jewel Brown Johnson. Mrs. Hattie is survived by her husband, Leonard Dickens; daughter Katrina (Kenny) Cubbins and son Len Dickens (Tammy Hood) all of Smithville. Grandchildren Kelly (Nathan) Lawson, Kyra (Daniel) Juneau, Lenzi (Jarrett) Adams and Madison (Cody) Wagner. Great grandchildren Brayden Juneau, Bella Hutchins, Haivynn Overton, Camron Juneau, Kylie Juneau, Wrennen Welch, Andrew Lawson, Emma Jo Wagner, and Katie Beth Lawson all of Smithville. Also survived by sisters Betty Bell of Murfreesboro, Ann (John) Bickford of Spencer and brother Willie Henry Johnson of Smithville, and special longtime best friend Faye Ryan of Brentwood. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Her family has honored her request to be cremated with a brief Memorial service held on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at 2:00 pm with visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm at Smithville First Free Will Baptist Church, with Bro. Andy Patterson officiating. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the SFFWBC building fund or the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Hattie. Mrs. Hattie’s family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to all the wonderful people at NHC Smithville and at Gentiva Hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Hattie. Billy Hooper, Jr.

November 3, 2023

Billy Hooper, Jr., 62, of Smithville, passed away on November 2, 2023, in Murfreesboro, TN at St. Thomas Rutherford.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Imojean Adcock Hooper Clendenon and aunt, Wanda Adcock.

He survived by his father, Billy Hooper, Sr. (Mary Jane); brother, Jeff Hooper; niece, Jessica Taylor (Pete); great-nephew and great-niece, Aiden Taylor and Adelann Jean Taylor; companion, Lorene McCann and her children and grandchildren; and uncle, Dean Adcock all of Smithville.

Billy’s wishes were to be cremated and will be buried with his mother. There will be a graveside service at DeKalb Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Charles Edward “Charlie” Brown

November 3, 2023

Charles Edward “Charlie” Brown, age 72, passed away from an extended illness in Greenville, KY on November 1, 2023. A native of Smithville, TN, Charlie was born on November 3, 1950, in Lebanon, TN.

A natural showman, Charlie sang for and entertained family and friends from an early age which would continue throughout his life. He was always humming a tune, drumming the dashboard, or captivating the crowd with a story. Through encouragement from his uncle, LM Murphy, Charlie discovered his passion for showing horses, and upon graduating from DeKalb County High School in 1968, that passion became a lifetime calling that would lead him to stables in Arkansas and Alabama before he ultimately settled in Kentucky. After a career spanning over 50 years, where he earned countless blue ribbons and top honors from industry organizations, Charlie became a well-respected show judge due to his exceptional skills as a horse trainer. Described as an icon in the horse industry, his legacy will live on through the many riders and fellow trainers he mentored.

Charlie is survived by his uncle, L.M. Murphy of Mt Juliet, TN and Jerry Brown of Smithville, TN; stepmother, Jeanette Brown of The Woodlands, TX; brother, Jeff Brown of Gainesville, GA; stepsister, Marcy York-Oznick of The Woodlands, TX; son, Bryon Brown of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter, Brandy Mathis (Patrick) of Greenville; stepsons, Shane Johnson of Boaz, AL and Cory Garrard (Kenna) of Lawton, OK; grandchildren, Dakota Bowlds (Paige), Kaelin McElvain (Christian Daugherty), Hunter Mathis, Kaedence Garrard, Kennady Garrard, Chandler Johnson (Damon Strawn), Conlee Johnson and Henlee Johnson; great-grandsons, Joseph, Greyson, and Jaxon.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Floyd Leon Brown, Jr. and Jean Murphy Brown of Smithville, TN; brother David Brown; stepsister Missy Klimas.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with burial at Nebo Cemetery, immediately following the service.

Tommy Stockling

November 3, 2023

Mr. Tommy Stockling, age 66 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night, November 2, 2023 at Tennova Hospital in Clarksville. He was a retired warehouse manager at Star Mfg. and worked 17 years for TWRA as a boating officer. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.

Mr. Stockling was born on April 21,1957 in Lebanon to his parents Levi and Opal Haynes Stockling who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Charles and Jaqueline Robinson and nephew, David Alexander

The family has honored Mr. Stockling’s final wishes to be cremated. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Stockling, daughter, Amy (Tim) Tobitt, 4 grandchildren, Caroline, Maddie, Hannah and Sam Tobitt all of Smithville. Several other close family members survive.
