Mrs. Billie Ann Odom

Mrs. Billie Ann Odom, age 81, passed away at her residence Wednesday morning. She was a Baptist by denomination but more importantly she was a woman who loved the Lord. She was a former employee of the Dekalb County School System, a homemaker, nature lover, gardener, seamstress, and a collector of many things.

She was preceded in death 6 months ago by her husband of 61 years, Sam Odom, parents Olen & Nadine Patterson, 2 sisters Audrey Summers & Nell Cantrell, and son in law Greg Ray.

Survivors include daughter Marica Sandlin, Son Shayne (Jamie) Odom, son Jonathan (Sonya) Odom, all of Smithville, & daughter Amanda Odom Ray of Clarksville. Grandchildren Ashley Williams, Shandi Sandlin, Josh Odom, Jake Odom, Chris Odom, Dillion Brown, Grace Vincent, Nicholas Ray & Allie Ray. Several great grandchildren., nieces and nephews. Also survived by Brothers Jack & Grady Harold Patterson of Smithville and 1 sister Judy Wade of Tallahassee, Florida.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kevin Rhody. No visitation, private graveside service with immediate family only. Burial at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Doston Reed Caplinger

Doston Reed Caplinger age 94 passed away Thursday July 22, 2021 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville. He was born March 20, 1927 to his parents the late James Abraham Garfield and Lona Hill Caplinger. In addition to his parents he was preceded death by and infant son, James Reed Caplinger; brothers, Clarence, Charlie, Oble, Rayford, Monroe and Quentin Caplinger; sisters Ruth Sandlin, Elsie Caplinger, Ione Cantrell, and Geraldine Summers. Mr. Caplinger was a member of Dale Ridge Baptist Church, served in the United States Air Force, and worked for many years with the Forestry Department and with his brother as a Mechanic. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruth McGuire Caplinger of Smithville; children, Randy (Karen) Caplinger, Darlene Caplinger, and Tony Caplinger all of Smithville; grandchildren, Shawn Caplinger, Cory Caplinger, Nicole (Chith “CT”) Tong; great-grandchildren, Pearce Tong and Paxton “Pax” Tong; special niece, Ms. Billie Woodside; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be Sunday July 25, 2021 at 2:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Donnie Kelly and Bro. Gary Caplinger officiating and burial to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 4:PM till 7:PM and Sunday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. Due to COVID-19 the funeral home lounge is closed and NO food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Avalon Hospice and staff, Dr. Cripps, and special caregivers, Donna Robinson, Jimmie Kirby, Elaine Cowart, Louise Ferrell, Marylin Mashburn, Miranda Murphy, Deanna Kennedy. Royce “Junior” Ashford

Royce “Junior” Ashford age 50 of Alexandria, died Friday morning, July 23, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. Born Aug. 10, 1970 in Woodbury, he was the son of the late Royce Ashford. Junior is survived by his mother, Betty Jane Barrett and her husband, Ricky of Alexandria; sisters, Charlotte (Mark) Webster and Julie (Shannon) Malone; niece, Larissa (Taz) Everette; nephew, Tanner Malone; great nieces and nephews, Zoei, Zayne, Zayden, Baylor and Bryce; aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside services and interment will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Prosperity Cemetery with Bro. David Moody officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till service time Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbeares, Mark Webster, Shannon Malone, Taz Everette, Jacob Ashford, Cory Chapman, Ernie Cook. Carrie Helen Smith

Ms. Carrie Helen Smith, age 107 of Smithville, TN passed away Tuesday night, July 20, 2021 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville.

Ms. Carrie was born on July 12, 1914 in Alexandria, TN to her parents, the late Lem & Beatrice Griffith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Smith, Sr. , 2 daughters, Barbara Ann Smith & Carrie Dean Bass, 1 son, Edward Wayne Smith, 2 brothers, Grady Sims & Edward Ray Griffith & 2 sisters, Wilhemine Moore & Stella Dowell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Northside Church of Christ.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 12noon from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Burnes Lyons will officiate with burial to follow at Dowell Cemetery in Alexandria, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 4-8pm & Saturday from 10am until the service time at 12noon.

Survivors include 3 Sons, James (Mary) Smith of Alexandria, TN, Wade (Jackie) Smith of Smithville, TN & Bill Smith of Old Hickory, TN. 11. Grandchildren & 14 Great Grandchildren. Several Great Great Grandchildren also survive.

James Robert Page

Mr. James Robert Page, age 91 of Mt. Juliet, TN passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Page was born on March 10, 1930 in Watertown, TN to his parents, the late James Cecil & Iva Judkins Page. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, WJ Page, Hobart Page & Lionel Page. Sisters, Wilma Parkerson & Mildred Page. Mr. Page attended Pilgrim The Baptist Church and he had retired from the Ford Glass Plant with over 30 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Elder Ricky Hall will officiate & burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, from 4-8pm & Thursday, from 11am until the service time at 1pm.

Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Bobbie Fuson Page of Mt. Juliet, TN. 3 Children, Larry (Annette) Page of Mt. Juliet, TN, Carolyn Walker of Smyrna, TN & Ricky Page of Mt. Juliet, TN. Grandchildren, Josh (Jessica) Walker, Greg (Bethany) Walker, Casey Walker, Daniel (Wendy) Page, & Brian Page. 9 Great Grandchildren & 3 Great Great Grand Children.

Jason Daniel Tallent age 38 of Dowelltown passed away at his residence on July 14, 2021. He was born November 3, 1982 to his mother, Hanneke Beets of Netherlands and his father, the late Odie Harrison Tallent. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by grandparents, Pearl Hutchings and Odie Brown Tallent; grandfather, Anton Arend Cornelis Beets “Opa”. Mr. Tallent worked for the City of Smithville. He is survived by 1 son, Nicholas Hayden Tallent of Murfreesboro; mother, Hanneke Beets of Netherlands; grandmother, Gijsbert Everdine Hendrika Cornelli Sloots Overeem “Oma”; step-mother, Patricia Tallent of Smithville; brother, Josh (Jennifer) Tallent of Smithville; step-brothers, Javon Ross Hendrixson of Smithville, Louis Taft Hendrixson, III, of Smithville; step-sister, Jill Marie Goneke of Smithville; niece and nephews, Nicholas Anthony Pendleton, Brantley Grayson Goneke, and Paris Monroe Grigsby; several aunts and uncles also survive. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial in Old Bybee Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 9:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM. Due to COVID-19 the funeral home lounge is closed and NO food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
