Bobby Lee Hicks

Mr. Bobby Lee Hicks, age 85, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. He was born April 30, 1936, in Dekalb County Tennessee, the son of the late Ewin L. Hicks and the late Ada Lillian Adamson Hicks. Mr. Hicks was in the construction industry for many years. Mr. Hicks proudly served our country in the United States Army. He enjoyed collecting records, watching his Atlanta Braves, gardening, fishing, cooking and most of all spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Bobby Lee Hicks, Jr. and Doris Elaine Hicks; sisters Ruby Johnson, Virginia Atnip, and Jean Hicks; brothers, Thomas Hicks and Ewin Hicks, Jr.; grandson, Wayne Hicks; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Taylor; along with several nephews.

Mr. Hicks is survived by sons and daughter-in-law: Terry (Melissa) Hicks of Liberty, Tennessee and Mark Hicks of Liberty, Tennessee; his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Hicks of Smithville, Tennessee, Linda (Glenn) Kennedy Beech Grove, Tennessee, Delilah Bain and Daniel McGhee of Carrolton, Georgia, Rachel (Richard) Petty of Kennesaw, Georgia; his sister, Doris Hullett of Manchester, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; special friends, David and Theresa Blair of Whitesburg, Georgia and Sweta Patel of Carrollton, Georgia; caregivers, Faith Carr and Lisa Pilgrim; the mothers of his children, Lois Self of Liberty, Tennessee and Vera Hicks of Kennesaw, Georgia; his beloved puppy, Buddy; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive

According to his wishes, Mr. Hicks will be cremated and private family services will be held.

Craig Tyler Price, age 59, of Smithville died of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, November 9, at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on November 9, 1962, to Harold “Tony” and Judy (Parker) Price. When Craig was 12, his family moved from Dayton, Ohio, to Smithville, the home of his mother’ s extended family. He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1981 and continued his education at Nashville State Technical Institute, earning an Associate Degree in computer science. Craig had developed a passion for computers as a youngster, an interest he inherited and shared with his father who was an early master of applied computer technology.

After his graduation from Nashville Tech, Craig was employed by Federal Mogul and had a fulfilling career there for 28 years. He managed the computer program, first in Smithville and eventually becoming the Information Systems Coordinator for the entire Southeast region of the U.S.. In 2016 he went to work for Amazon where he was employed at the time of his death.

Craig was known by his family and friends as a “neatnik.” From an early age he always wanted to look well put together. He took neatness to the extreme, to the point that he insisted on ironing his own clothes. His persnickety-ness did not go unnoticed. He was elected “Neatest” boy in the class by his fellow seniors.

In addition to spending time on the computer, Craig enjoyed hiking and working outdoors. He kept his parents’ house and yard in pristine condition. In recent years he developed a fascination with cooking. It was his tradition that every Monday night, he would prepare family dinner, surprising his guests with his gourmet meals. Another activity that gave Craig satisfaction was his work with young people. For several years he worked with the Salem Baptist Youth Group and later he taught the youth Sunday School class at Crosspoint Church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bailey and Johnnie (Hill) Parker and Charles and Edna Price; aunts Lucy Parker and Charlotte (Price) Mayo; uncle Charles Price, Jr.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Christopher Price, and daughter, Lydia Price (Will Taylor); parents,
Judy and Harold “Tony” Price; grandchildren, Brantley Brooks and Willow Grace Taylor (all of Smithville); a sister, Mary (Sergei) Chubenko; great niece, Alana and great nephew Eli (all of Murfreesboro); maternal aunts, Anet Parker Lockwood and Karen Parker Hendley (both of Michigan); the mother of his children, Meshia (Rigsby) Johnson; and numerous cousins.

The family will receive friends at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, beginning at 12:00 noon Friday, November 12 with a service following at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition or to the charity of one’s choice.

78 year old Doris Gean Gilbert of Franklin died Thursday at the Williamson County Medical Center. She was a Baptist and a retired librarian in Alexandria. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.B. and Sarah Elizabeth Ford Garrison. Survivors include two sons, Richard and Victoria Gilbert of Franklin and Michael and Mindy Gilbert of Lawrenceburg. Sister, Linda and Charles Willoughby of Kentucky. Niece, Christie and Joey Parsley and nephew, Eric and Robin Willoughby all of Kentucky. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alexandria Library. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Penny Beth VanDyne age 43 of Smithville passed away Thursday morning, November 11, 2021 at her residence.  She was born in West Palm Beach, Florida to her parents, Jesse and Sharon Ervay VanDyne.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse VanDyne, Jr.  Penny attended Covenant Baptist Church and was disabled.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents Jesse and Sharon VanDyne of Smithville; siblings, Christine (Frank) Elliott, Todd VanDyne and Danny (Susan) VanDyne all of Smithville, Stephen and Timothy VanDyne both of Florida; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and 1 great-great-nephew.  Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2021 4:PM until 7:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home at this time.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Bonnie Sue Blasingame age 77 of Smithville passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at her residence. She was born August 7, 1944 to her parents the late Zeb Vance and Dorothy Alleah Robinson Burney. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, James B. Whitehead; brother Roy Burney. Mrs. Bonnie was affiliated with the Smithville Church of God. She worked with Temp Agencies, a medical company in Franklin and was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Gilbert “Buddy” Blasingame, Jr. of Smithville; daughters, Alleah Louise Graves of Nashville, Amy Carr Wilson of Edmond, OK, and Rhonda B. Walp of Springville; son, Todd Blasingame of Woodbury; 8 grandchildren, Kyle Walp, Kori Walp, Sgt. Stephen M. Parr, Ashleigh Casey, Jessica Adcock, Emily Wilson, Alleah “Reece” Wilson, J. T. Whitehead; 9 great-grandchildren, Paxton Walp, Bailey Walp, Adrianna Maeweather, Hayven Casey, Kamron Casey, Cade Adcock, Gemma Parr, Jackson Parr, Gabriel Castillo. The family has chosen a direct cremation and a Celebration of Life will be held later. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Ken R. Adcock passed away on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at a health care facility due to complications from a stroke. He was 80 years old. He was an active member of First United
Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN and member of the St. Andrews Sunday School class.

Dr. Adcock was born in Smithville, TN and graduated from Dekalb County High School. He attained an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Tennessee Tech University located in Cookeville, TN. He later attained an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

He had a diverse career in private industry, which consisted of Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma, TN, Bowater Paper Company in Calhoun TN, and AGC Corporation in Cleveland, TN. He was especially proud of AGC Corporation, a software development company located in Cleveland, TN where he was co-founder and President. AGC developed and sold software that managed the back-office functions of churches with their signature product being United Methodist Information System (UMIS). He later entered academia by joining Cleveland State Community College (CSCC) as a full-time faculty member where he achieved the rank of full Professor while teaching business administration and computer science classes. He always said his time at CSCC were the best years of his career. He cherished his time with the students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Adcock was a devoted husband and father. His favorite hobbies were restoring and building classic cars and reading. He enjoyed attending car shows with his best friends who remember him for his loud laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Frances Adcock, and his brother, Wayne Adcock.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Charlotte Robinson Adcock and two sons and their wives, Ken R. Adcock, Jr. and Walailux, Jonathan Wayne Adcock and Mary. This includes his grandchildren, Andrew Adcock, son of Ken and Walailux Adcock, Rebekah Adcock, daughter of Jonathan Adcock, Mackenzie Savage, step-daughter of Jonathan and Mary Adcock, and great grandson, Kayden. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-law Judy Adcock and nieces Amelia Melton and Valerie Boothe as well as many relatives.

On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, a Celebration of Life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN and officiated by Reverend Curtis McKee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM with the service to take place immediately thereafter. The family requests everyone to wear masks when indoors.

Interment will be at DeKalb County Memorial Gardens in Smithville, TN on Thursday, Nov. 11 with the burial service to begin at 11:00 AM CST where he will be buried near his parents, brother, and other relatives. All friends and relatives are welcomed to attend.

Honorary pallbearers are the St. Andrew’s Sunday School Class. Pallbearers are Gary Wilson, Mike Weeks, Lewis Capehart, Rodney Haun, Stacy Greene, and Scott Ford.
