Mitchell Rowland

Mitchell Rowland, 70, of Liberty, TN died on the morning of June 18th 2021. He was in his home with his wife, two daughters, and son-in-law near.

He was a devout Christian and a long time member of Salem Baptist Church. He grew up farming and later graduated from MTSU. After he married his wife, Debra, he became a mail carrier for the Liberty Post Office and worked there for 38 years. He was often recognized in town by his red truck, which he also delivered the mail in.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a joke. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm with his metal detector and loved sharing pictures he’d captured there with his wildlife camera. He regularly spent time in his shed devoted to his latest woodworking project. In his later years, he often helped his younger siblings in projects such as assisting his brother build a new barn, and he was always ready to offer help to his family whenever they needed it.
His pride and joy were his two daughters and his young granddaughter. He will be long remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra Rowland; his daughter Mary Montgomery and her husband Tyler of Murfreesboro; his daughter Ashley Rowland of Chattanooga; his granddaughter Emma Rowland of Chattanooga; his brother, Tim Rowland; sisters, Genrose Davis, Terry Bess Malone, and Westa Morrison; and aunt, Mackie Yatooma. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Tom Rowland.

Visitation will be held at Salem Baptist Church Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1pm, which will immediately be followed by a funeral service at 5pm. Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Mr. Paul Cantrell age 83 of Smithville, TN passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at his home.

Paul was born on April 28, 1938 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late Jesse Cantrell & Lillie Farless Derting. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Glenn Cantrell. Paul was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a small engine mechanic. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served as the local Veterans Affairs officer for over 40 years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and he served on the DeKalb Telephone Cooperative Board of Directors for many years.

The family of Mr. Paul Cantrell has chosen direct cremation. No services are planned at this time.

Survivors include his 2 Daughters, Amy (Bruce) Curtis of Smithville, TN & Sabrina St. John of McMinnville, TN. 4 Grandchildren, Julia Curtis & Kealah Pelfrey of Smithville, TN and Jamie & Tyler Judge both of McMinnville, TN. 4 Great Grandchildren. 2 Brothers, Lewis (Peggy) Cantrell of Smithville, TN & Ralph (Debbie) Cantrell of Wyoming. Sister, Helen (Robert) Yeghiavan of Pulaski, TN. Sister-in-law, Donna Cantrell of California. Several Nieces, Nephews and a Special Friend, Lori Johnson also survive.

Bonnie Castina Chacon age 69 of the Johnson’s Chapel Community of DeKalb County, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2021 at Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was born May 31, 1952 to her parents, the late Refus and Ressie “Bill” Luna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Luna. Bonnie worked for 22 years at Kitchen Craft/Smithport Cabinetry in the front office. She was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Gelasie “Marco” Chacon of Johnson’s Chapel; 2 children, Erick Dodd and fiance, Taylor Youngblood and Angel Chacon both of Johnson’s Chapel; brother, Larry (Angie) Luna of Johnson’s Chapel; special friends, Kristy Kennen, Linda Herman and Bruce (Sherril) Cunningham. Graveside services and interment will be 10:AM Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Peeled Chestnut Cemetery with Bros. Dwayne Cornelius and Elmore Judd officiating. There will not be any visitation at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at Peeled Chestnut Cemetery for the graveside service at 10:AM. John Roy Marler age 76 of Smithville, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born January 28, 1945 in Watertown, to his parents, the late Rob Roy and Vaughtie Vantrease Marler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rob and Elizabeth Mayton; sister, Peggy Taylor; niece, Lisa Snider and nephew, Donnie Anderson. He was a Baptist and a painter. John loved the outdoors. He is survived by his family, whom he loved dearly, wife, Sheryl Marler of Smithville; daughter, Samantha (Rickey) Baines of Gordonsville; grandson, Zachary Baines; 2 sisters, Linda Shehane and Mary Ann (Chuck) Chilcutt both of Lebanon; brother-in-law, Daryl (Diana) Mayton of Rockwood; nieces and nephews, Tina Angle, Randy (Tracey) Carson, Shelley (Roy) Brown, Ricky (Ann Marie) Anderson, Allen (Shelby) Shehane, Pam McAteer, Kim (Joe) Stewart, Beau (Kendra) Mayton and Brianna (Clint) Moore and several great-nieces and nephews that loved him. The family has honored John’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Friday, June 25, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kim Slickmeyer and Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Friday June 25th 11:AM until the time of the memorial service at 1 PM. Janet Lynn Boatman Ashford age 60 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2021 at her residence. She was born November 14, 1960 to her parents, the late Larry Austin and Emma Elaine Tipton Boatman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Boatman. She worked for over 13 years in housekeeping at Evins Mill Retreat. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, James Ashford of Smithville; 4 children, Michelle Hume and Chris Myers both of Sparta, Melissa Edmonds (Neal Young of Smithville and Kimberly (Jeremy) Reedy of Woodbury; 9 grandchildren, Gidean, Gabriel, and Gaige Hume, Austin and Justin Myers, Makayla, Matthias and Raivah Reedy and Jackson Ashford; 2 step-children, Alicia Curtis and Ricky Ashford, Jr.; 3 brothers, Larry “Eddie” Boatman of Pleasant View, TN, Carl “Toby” Harris of Mississippi, Jonathan “Scott” Brasfield of Sparta; 2 sisters, Laura Archer of Arkansas and Tammy Jenkins of Mississippi. Teresa Diane Banks- Mitchell age 67, of Alexandria, TN, went home to the Lord May 26, 2021 . She was born in North Carolina March 20, 1954. She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil Cline Banks and Shirley Ann Reid Banks and her brothers Doyle, Dean and Danny Banks and her husband Ronnie Mitchell .

Teresa is survived by her daughter Shirley Stubblefield, her nieces, Kim(Bryan) Warden & Jessica(Vance) Thompson, her grandchildren; Dale Stubblefield, Josh Heady,Shawn (Tia) Smith, Mary Belle Mofield, Aj Mofield and Hope Mofield, a great-grandson Rain Smith, along with several great nieces and nephews.

She was a loving individual who loved God, family and animals and who was passionate about children’s happiness, animal care, country music, and old cars. She worked for several years at Nashville Wire and Lealco.

A graveside service is scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday June 15, 2021 at 1PM at the Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria, TN. Avant Funeral home is in charge of the service.
