Nelta Jo Golden Cantrell

Nelta Jo Golden Cantrell, age 83, a McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native, was born August 5, 1937 and died January 21, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was a retired owner of Happy Land Day Care, a member of Bethany Church of Christ, and the daughter of the late Alaska Elkana and Josie Estella Pryor Golden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Donald Venus Cantrell; siblings, Henrietta Patton Mabery, Pauline Gribble, Arthur Golden, Alice Cantrell, Doris Whitlock, Austin Golden, Edwin Golden, Hubert “Hoss” Golden, and Stella Jean Parker Grissom; and granddaughter, Amy Lynn Miller.

Mrs. Cantrell is survived by four children and spouses, Anthony Cantrell of McMinnville, TN, Brad (Cyndi) Cantrell of McMinnville, TN, Jeff (Renea) Cantrell of Smithville, TN, and Donna Jo Farless of McMinnville, TN; eight grandchildren, Chandler Cantrell, Whitney & Tyler Stoner, Nathan & Caitlin Cantrell, Nick & Sarah Cantrell, Erica & Dillon Tubb, Tyler & Caroline Cantrell, Taylor Cantrell, and Ashley Farless; eight great-grandchildren, Knox, Kannon, Kase, Addison, Lily, Carter, Parker, and Ezra; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Golden of Mississippi, Diana Atnip of Smithville, TN, and Ruth Cantrell of Summitville; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Sarah Cantrell of Smithville, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Cantrell was a devoted christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, watching birds, planting flowers, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with family, going to church and ladies bible class, singing, and gathering at her house for Sunday dinners.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at High’s Chapel with David Costello, and Richard Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at High’s. The family request that everyone wear mask and practice social distancing.

Tammy Jennings

January 21, 2021

54 year old Tammy Jennings of Smithville passed away Thursday at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was a Pentecostal. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Alton Bain; daughter, Jennifer Shehane; two brothers, Kenny Bain and James Young; and three sisters, Eva Roberts, Nina Self, and Annette Bain. Jennings is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Bain of Smithville. Daughter, Jada and Dan Chamblee of Clinton. Son, Clint Shehane of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Ashton, Taylor, and Jordan Chamblee of Clinton, Kaden Washer of Smithville, Alyssa Shehane and Trevor Kirby of Carthage. Four brothers, Daddy and Jessica Bain of Baxter, Buck Bain, Dickie Bain, and Doug Young all of Smithville. Five sisters, Sandra and David Bain of Smithville, Donna and Tom Brock of Texas, Dot Miller and Doretta Taylor of McMinnville and Melissa and Ricky Murphy of Smithville and companion Ricky Shehane of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.




Betty Jewell Sims

Betty Jewell Sims age 86 of Smithville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 18, 2021 at her residence. She was born June 3, 1934 to her parents, the late John and Dottie Pelfrey Handley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, former Church of God minister, Bro. Norman Sims; 2 brothers, Donald Handley and Buddy Handley. Betty was a member of the Smithville Church of God and a homemaker. She is survived by 3 children, Barry (Debbie) Sims of Sevierville, Karen (Mark) Adams of Dowelltown and Brian (Angela) Sims of Kodak; 7 grandchildren, Dylan (Heather) Sims, Aaron Sims, Amanda (Scott) Goodwin, Marla (Jim) Beshearse, Jared (Sydney) Adams, Brittany Sims and Nicholas Sims; 6 great-grandchildren, Juniper Sims, Carsyn and Cate Beshearse, Cooper and Kiptyn Goodwin and Florence Adams. Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday, January 22, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Chris Moore officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. Due to Covid- 19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The pews in the chapel are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 people for the service. The lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Lisa Georgette Peterson

Mrs. Lisa Georgette Peterson, age 59 of Smithville, TN passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Peterson was born October 13, 1961 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late George & Ruth Young Billings. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Pam Farley. Lisa was a Special Education Teacher for the DeKalb County School System and was an Election Administrator for DeKalb County for 17 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 9:30am until the service time at 1pm. Due to Covid 19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are not accepting food in our kitchen facilities at this time.

Survivors include her Husband of 40 years, Eric Peterson. 1 Son, Ross (Lindsey) Peterson. 2 Grandchildren- Levi & Lexi Peterson. 1 Sister- Diane (Eugene) Haley all of Smithville, TN. Bro-In-Law, Terry Farley of KY. 2 Nieces- Chandra (Joe) Adcock and Gina (Dennis) Arnold all of Smithville, TN. Several Great Nieces & Nephews, Kealah (Dylan) and their son Gauge Pelfrey, Clark Adcock, Shara Adcock, Bryson Arnold, Sam Arnold, Adam Arnold & Jordan Arnold all of Smithville, TN.

Charlene Colwell Pipkin

January 19, 2021

Charlene Colwell Pipkin, age 91 of Lafayette, passed away Monday afternoon, January 11, 2021 at Riverview Regional Medical Center.

She was born in the Bright Hill Community of DeKalb County to C.D. and Edna Certain Colwell on March 18, 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Herbert Pipkin of Lafayette, and 3 sisters, Lillian (C.A.) Robinson, Lucille (J.D. Hendrixson, and Christene (Bob) Smithson all of Smithville and 1 brother, Dr. Felty Colwell of Scottsville, Kentucky.

She is survived by son, Stan Pipkin of Lafayette, brother, Dr. Frank (Mary) Colwell, sister Rose (Paul) Dillon all of Smithville, and a sister-in-law, Sarah Colwell of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Several nieces & nephews also survive.

Memorial Services will be conducted at a later date.

Peggy Diann Adcock

Peggy Diann Adcock age 53 of Smithville passed away Sunday night, January 17, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was born June 1, 1967 to her parents, the late Reed and Joyce Redmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband 6 months ago, Timmie Adcock; 2 brothers, James Allen and Glen Redmon; sister, Marlene Redmon. She was a member of New The Baptist Church, worked at Kingston Timers for over 20 years. Peggy is survived by her brother, David (Maria) Redmon of Chesterfield, MI; mother-in-law, Flora Mai Adcock of Smithville; 4 nephews, Jr. (Heather) Redmon, Matthew Redmon, Simon Camaj, and Rob Camaj; 1 niece, Tina Marku; aunts, Marie (Jimmy) Taylor of Smithville, Judy Montgomery of Michigan; uncles, Ernest (Linda) Redmon of McMinnville; Clyde (Bessie) Hawkins of Smithville, and Lynn Hawkins of Rockwood; several cousins and special family, Aniston and Alexis Raymond. Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday January 20, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Johnny Adcock officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM until 7 PM and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
