43 year old Jerri Marie Spivey of Rock Island, TN passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at St. Thomas Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville, TN.
The family has chosen cremation however a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial of her remains will be at Whorton Springs Cemetery.
Ms. Jerri was a caretaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Teachout and a granddaughter, Everleigh Vincent. She is survived by 2 Daughters, Amanda Vincent & Summer Spivey (Christian Gottlied). 2 Sons, Ray (Brittany) Vincent, & Seth (Kayla) Vincent all of Smithville, TN. 2 Grandchildren, Maverick Vencent & Johnathan Gottlied both of Smithville, TN. Mother, Brenda Teachout of New York. 3 Brothers, Thomas (Barb) Moade of New York, Eric (Cheree) Teachout of Allons, TN & David (Melissa) Teachout of Kentucky. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
The family has asked that donations be made to the funeral home to help with cremation expenses in lieu of flowers.

Linda Jeanette Scott

Linda Jeanette Scott age 66 of McMinnville, passed away on Saturday May 16, 2020 at her residence. She was born October 28, 1953 to her parents, the late Milburn and Charline Bain Scott. Linda attended Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. She is survived by 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Dru) Scott of Rock Island, Donnie (Peggy) Scott of McMinnville, Ricky (Teresa) Scott of Liberty; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Mike) Fairchild of McMinnville; great-niece, Hattie Scott; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Due to the COVID-19, and the Governor strongly encouraging that the public component of funerals be postponed and only attended by close family members, social distancing requirements and public health safety, There will be a Private Funeral 11:AM Monday, May 18, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bill Robertson officiating and burial will follow in Tittsworth Cemetery with Bro. Ricky Scott having prayer. Anyone attending, PLEASE exercise Social Distancing for the health and safety of everyone. The Service will be livestreamed at DeKalb Funeral Chapel Facebook page. Sylvia Lee Bell Jones

Ms. Sylvia Lee Bell Jones, age 76 of Smithville and formerly of Murfreesboro, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Sylvia was born on May 24, 1943 in Birmingham AL to her parents, the late William & Nola Pegram Bell. Also preceding her in death is her husband, Grady Mitchell Jones. She formerly worked as a secretary for Middle Tennessee State University and attended the Macedonia The Baptist Church of Christ in Smith County.
In accordance with the Governors Executive Order Number 30 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it strongly recommends the continuation of private family services. There will be no public visitation held at the funeral home. Private Graveside services for the family will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro with Bro. Tim Bennett officiating.
Survivors include 1 Son, Bill (Melissa) Jones of Smithville. 1 Daughter, Sylvia Ann (Kirk) Gordon Sr. of PA. 7 Grandchildren, Noah (Sierra) Jones, Mariah (Clay) Kilgore & Isaiah Jones all of Smithville, Sarah (Caleb) Granstaff of Alexandria, Kirk (Ashley) Gordon Jr., Joshua & Jacob Gordon all of PA. 6 Great Grandchildren, Zayden Lee, Wrenolds & Rayleigh Jones, Briar Rose Kilgore, & Elena Jones all of Smithville, John Edward Gordon of PA, Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law and Friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to help with burial expenses.

Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Newton

Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Newton age 68 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning, May 10, 2020 in Smithville. She was born June 11, 1951 to her parents, the late Orville and Ethel Alberta Barley Whitmore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Skip Newton; 4 siblings, Gerald Biggers, Nickie Biggers, Larry Whitmore and Terry Whitmore. She was a restaurant and factory worker. Bobbie leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children, Kris Power (Rhonda King) of Smithville, Shane Newton of Gainesboro, Angela Newton of Cookeville; 7 grandchildren, Jacob Power, Stephan Phillips, Shawn Phillips, Michael Phillips, Gabriel Newton, Shane Newton, Jr., and Israel Newton; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dale Biggers of Louisiana; 1 sister, Jennie Biggers Trayanoff of Louisiana; special friends, Ann Cantrell, Ricky Cantrell, Hayle and Jade Cantrell and Bridgett Shannon Sink. The family has honored Ms. Newton’s request to be cremated and no services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Matthew Anthony William Murphy

Matthew Anthony William Murphy age 28 of Liberty, TN passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Tri Star Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Matthew was born on June 22, 1991 in DeKalb County to his parents, Rebecca Sarvey and the late Michael Murphy. Also preceding him in death was his Grandfather, Willie Murphy. He formerly worked as a Nurseryman.
The family of Mr. Murphy has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time.
Survivors include his Mother, Rebecca Sarvey of Ohio. Sister, Felica Murphy of Ohio. Grandmother, Jackie Lawson Murphy of Liberty, TN. Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces & Cousins also survive.

Eric Van Mathis age 46 of Liberty passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020. He was born June 5, 1973 to his parents, Van and Debbie Parsley Mathis. Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Delton and Nell Parsley and paternal grandparents, Guy and Thelma Mathis; uncle, Danny Parsley and aunt, Sharon Star Mathis. He was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church, 1991 graduate of DeKalb County High School, graduate of Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree and worked in Accounting. He leaves to cherish his memory, parents, Van and Debbie Mathis of Liberty; sister, Pamela (Richard) Delay of Lebanon; niece and nephews, Chandler Shaw (Molly), Olivia Shaw and Ryker Delay; great-niece, Haven Shaw; aunts and uncles, Libby (Jerry) McCormick, Jeff (Michelle) Parsley, Patricia (Odie) Tallent and Guylene (Robert) Atnip all of Smithville; several cousins also survive.
