Carolyn Lackey age 73 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2020 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was born November 26, 1946 to her parents, the late James Edward and Helen Virginia Driver Hendrixson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lackey and brother, Jimmy Hendrixson. She was a member of the Old Fashioned Freewill Baptist Church and worked in the Dietary Department at NHC HealthCare. She leaves to cherish her memory 5 children, Jeffery Scott (Patricia) Stubbe of Smithville, Charles Stubbe of Smithville, Tina (Kenneth) Whitehead of Smithville, Tammy (David) Hough of Florida and Jason (Melissa) Lackey of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, Ashlee (Jacob) Rankhorn, Jessica Price (Antonio), Madison Whitehaed, Joshua, Eli and Nicholas Lackey, Shelby Hough and Dakota (Emily) Nokes; 4 great-grandchildren, Brynlee Rankhorn, Kimber and Kynlee Nokes and Jeremiah Hillard; sisters-in-law, Bernice Hendrixson of Dowelltown, Jean (Johnny) King, Norma (David) Young, and Wanda Allen all of Sparta and Angela Garcia of Manchester; brothers-in-law, Wane Lackey of Chattanooga, Stevie Lackey, Tommy Lackey, and James Lackey all of Sparta and Bethel (Linda) Golden of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID-19, the Governor strongly encouraging that the public component of funerals be postponed and only attended by immediate family members, social distancing requirements and public health safety, There will be a PRIVATE Graveside Service on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bros. David Lawson and Nathan Thomason officiating. The family is planning to have a Public Service to Honor the life of Ms. Carolyn at a later date, which will be announced. Condolences may be sent to the family on the funeral home website. Also, any expressions of sympathy may be mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Phillip Hendrixson age 56 of McMinnville, passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2020 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital ER in McMinnville. He was born August 24, 1963 to his parents, the late J.D. and Louise Pinegar Hendrixson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Randall and Jerry Hendrixson. He was a Baptist and a nursery worker. Phillip is survived by his wife, Roxanne Hendrixson of McMinnville; 2 children, Scotty (Bonnie) Hendrixson of Dunlap and Cory (Crystal) Hendrixson of McMinnville; 5 grandchildren, Haley, Hope, McKenzie, Dallas and Lyndsey Hendrixson; 2 brothers, Ricky Hendrixson and Bobby (Joyce) Hendrixson both of Smithville; special cousin, Lou Ann Cantrell. Due to the COVID-19 and Governor asking to keep services private family only services, there will be a Private Graveside Service on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at DeKalb Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. Condolences to the family can be made on the funeral home website. Dorothy Jean Puckett age 79 passed away Saturday morning, May 2, 2020 at her residence. She was born September 14, 1940 to her parents, the late Obie and Vera Earline Redman Certain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Puckett; step-father, Lonnie Rigsby and brother, Gordon Certain. Dorothy worked at Geny’s Wholesale Florist in Nashville, worked with the Food Pantyr and Clothes Closet and was a member of the Bright Hill United Methodist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 children, Jimmy (Anita) Puckett of Smithville and Fran (Dave) Bennett of Maryville; 6 grandchildren, Mikki (Matt) Trentham, Hunter Bennett and FiancĂ©, Lyndsey, Kristian (Dustin) Nelson, Kidman Puckett and FiancĂ©, Dophcar, Lexi Bennett and Addison Puckett; 4 great-grandchildren, Lakelyn and Camden Nelson, Violet and Asher Trentham; nephews, Terry, Eric and Jeff Certain; special family, Hooper Judkins, Frances Kiaha and Erma Haun. Due to the Governor’s Executive Order 30, and the recommendation of family only services and continued Social Distancing, there will be a Private Graveside Service Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Burton-Ponder Cemetery. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Bright Hill United Methodist Church, in memory of Ms. Dorothy. Those donations can be made by calling the funeral home. John Franklin Suggs

73 year old John Franklin Suggs of Alexandria died Friday at his residence. He was a residential painter, a Baptist, and a US Army veteran. The family has chosen cremation. Suggs was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Wilbur Suggs and Nell Marie Scott; a brother, Tommy Suggs, and a sister Ramona Suggs. He is survived by three sons, John Jason Suggs, Joshua Ryan and Nikita Suggs, and Joseph Eugene and Devin Suggs all of Savannah, Georgia. Grandchildren, Colin and Noah Suggs. Sisters and brothers, Jackie Orr of Reddick, Florida, Bruce Suggs, Jr of Gainesville, Florida, and Ricky Suggs of Reddick, Florida. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Delorice Marie Ashburn age 82 of Sparta passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Emergency Room of St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.
She was born on March 9, 1938 in Smithville to her parents, the late Isaac & Dora Hawkins Billings. Mrs. Ashburn attended Laurel Hill Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In accordance with the Governors Executive Order Number 17 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public visitation. Private Graveside Services for the family will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Bro. Tim Bumbalough will officiate.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Helious Ashburn. Daughter, Hilda Adkins & 2 sisters, Maureen Moore & Virda Billings. Survivors include 3 Daughters, Helen (David) Barnes, Donna (Greg) Hutson, Kristy Beshearse all of Sparta. 3 Grandchildren, Shaundra (Kenny) Cantrell of Smithville, Tyrel Helton of Smithville & Allie Beshearse of Sparta. 5 Great Grandchildren, Alexis, Eli & Boston Cantrell, Ava Helton & Henry Campus. Great Great Grandchild, Maddox Howard. Special Caretaker & Friend, Carolyn Powers of Smithville.
The family of Mrs. Ashburn would like to send a special thank you to the nursing staff at NHC of Smithville for the love and kindness they received while at the nursing home.

Gary Good age 67 of the Keltonburg Community of DeKalb County, passed away Monday morning April 27, 2020 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born July 19, 1952 to his parents, the late Carl and Glenda Jones Good, Sr. Gary was a member of the Keltonburg United Methodist Church and Photography Trainer with Olan Mills and Eastman Kodak, he also work at Northside Elementary and enjoyed music. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Phyllis Good of Smithville; 2 children, Jack (Beth) Good of Lascassas and Abby (Craig) Watson of Smithville; 2 grandchildren, Laura Good and Matthew Agee; 1 brother, Carl (Michelle) Good, Jr. of Lascassas; 2 sisters, Linda (Dave) Clark of Murfreesboro and Debbie Shelton Driver (Roger Young) of Smithville; several nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID-19, Governor’s Executive Order and Social distancing requirements, there will be a private funeral service on Thursday April 30, 2020 with Bro. Michael Hale and Craig Watson officiating, following the funeral the family will honor Gary’s request to be cremated.
