Cindy Vaughn

46-year-old Cindy Vaughn of Smithville died Sunday, March 1st at her residence of natural causes. A memorial service is scheduled Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Smithville. Visitation with the family will be from Noon until 2:00.

A native of Smithville, she was a graduate of DeKalb County High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. At age 11, she professed faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord…and was baptized as a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Cindy was the daughter of Ralph E. Vaughn of Nashville and the late Betty Sue Driver Vaughn of Smithville. In addition to her mother, Cindy was preceded in death by her grandparents – Robert and Lorene Driver of Alexandria; J.D. and Betty Vaughn Wilson and C.W. Wilson of Smithville.

Survivors include her father, Ralph (June) Vaughn of Nashville; brother, Randy (Natasha) Vaughn; nephew, Drake (Amanda) Vaughn; niece, Ellie Vaughn; great niece, Amelia Vaughn; and special friend, Rex Elder, all of Smithville.

To honor Cindy’s memory, memorials may be made in her name to DeKalb Animal Coalition, Lighthouse Christian Camp or Haven of Hope.




Nancy Marie Whitefield

March 1, 2020

76 year old Nancy Marie Whitefield of Smithville passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was a homemaker.
Visitation with the family will be at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3rd from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm and Wednesday, March 4th from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Bro. Bobby Thomason will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt Holly Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitefield was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Whitefield; parents, Goldie Lee and Mary Jim Braswell Atnip; daughter, Teresa Whitefield; brothers Gordon, Joel B, and Bobby Atnip; and sister, Rose Bain.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy Earl Whitefield of Smithville and Gary Wayne Whitefield of Alabama. Daughter, Rhonda Reeves of Sparta. Grandchildren, Jeffery Whitefield of Spencer, Jason and Savannah Whitefield of Smithville, Gavin Whitefield of Georgia, and Corey Lumpkin of Cookeville and special granddaughter, Haley Jones of Smithville. Great grandchildren. Brother, Duywane and Anna Atnip of Smithville. Sisters, Lois Atnip and Priscilla and Cotton Bain of Smithville; and brother-in-law, Toy Johnny Bain of Smithville. Special friend, Carol Ann O’Claire. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.




Bertie Crook Barrett

Bertie Crook Barrett age 96 of Alexandria, passed away Thursday night, February 27, 2020 at her sons home. She was born July 8, 1923 to her parents, the late William Horace “Bill” and Maltida Emmaline Hale Crook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Truemon Barrett; son, Doug Barrett; step-granddaughter, Melody Guinn and 11 brothers and sisters. She was a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and worked in the shirt factory for 23 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children, Donald Barrett of Alexandria, Hoyte (Fay) Barrett of Smithville and Rita (Gary) Beshearse of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Jimmy (Christie) Barrett, Angela (Shawn) Puckett, Tommy (Stacie) Barrett, Sheryl Lunsford, Lee Reynolds, Lacey (Daniel) Foutch, Kandy (James) Culbertson; several great and great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Lucille Laythe of Florida and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 4 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 1 P.M. until 7
P.M. and Sunday 11:AM until the time of the service at 4 P.M.DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Delmar Doak Taylor. Jr.

February 29, 2020

Delmar Doak Taylor. Jr., 83, of Louin, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Rush Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born Monday, December 14, 1936, in Smithville, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi, and on Sunday, March 1, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.

Graveside services and interment will be 11: AM Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Whorton Springs Cemetery in Smithville, Tennessee, with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Bro. Jeff Martin and Bro. Nathan Yates will officiate.

Mr. Taylor was a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church. He served our country in the United States Navy for twelve years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was a life member of ASHRAE Society. He was an active member of Pineville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed riding his horses and mules, spending time on his tractor, and most of all spending time with his family that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Doak, Sr. and Lillian F. Taylor; one son, Jeffrey Austin Taylor; one daughter, Sherri Gayle Taylor; and one brother, Donald Green Taylor.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Christina G. Taylor of Clear Springs Community in Smith County, Mississippi; three sons, Christopher Taylor (Barbara), Gary Taylor (Carmen), and Greg Taylor (Melissa) all of Brandon; eight grandchildren, David Taylor (Amy), Cory Taylor (Amanda), Daniel Taylor (Heather), Andy Taylor (Holly), Nikki Miles (Adam), Logan Taylor, Sydney Taylor, and Austin Taylor; six great-grandchildren, Noah Taylor, Emma Taylor, Morgan Taylor, Bailee Taylor, Ben Taylor, and Colt Miles; a host of other family members and friends.

Joyce D. Bogle

February 28, 2020

Joyce D. Bogle age 66 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday night, February 26, 2020 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was born February 28, 1953 in Cookeville to her parents, the late Horace and Eurlean Whitehead Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Bogle; daughter, Kayla Cantrell; 7 siblings, Sally Phillips, Mildred Allen, Euwell Jackson, John Rittenberry, Joyce Rittenberry, Helen Lezenby and Elvyon Downs. She was a factory worker and loved her chihuahuas. Survivors include 2 sons, Mike Hughes and Kevin Bogle both of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Heather (Jesse) Bradford of Smithville, Kaleb Bogle of Sparta, Paige and Austin Cantrell both of Alexandria; 1 great-grandchild, Hinkley Bradford; 2 sisters, Reba Shoemake of Gordonsville and Francis Craigmile of GA; Paul Jackson of Flat Rock; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale and her family officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation with the family will Saturday 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. and Sunday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel, in memory of Ms. Joyce. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Jeffery Lynn Knowles

Mr. Jeffery Lynn Knowles, age 60 of Nashville passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Tri Star Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville.

Jeffery was born July 7, 1959 in Smithville to his parents, Faye Cantrell Robinson and the late Cleston “Peel” Knowles. Also preceding him in death is his step father, Jim Robinson & a brother-in-law, David Hanes. Jeffery was formerly employed with B&P Ice Company as a Serviceman and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 1pm from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 2pm – 8pm & on Friday from 10am until service time at 1pm.

Survivors include his Mother, Faye Cantrell Robinson of Nashville. 3 Brothers, Jason Knowles of Smithville, Chad Knowles of Smithville, James Butler of Nashville. 3 Sisters, Anita & Anthony Hendrix of Smithville, Paula Hanes of Smyrna, Mary Ann & Kenny Gann of Pleasant View. Step Mother, Rose Knowles of Smithville. 2 Step Brothers, T.D. & Jeff Thomason both of Smithville. 4 Step Sisters, Roseann Certain, Pamela Turner, Barbara Neal & Sandra Petty all of Smithville. Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins also survive.

In addition to flowers donations can be made to help with burial expenses.
