Martha J. Ferrell

Martha J. Ferrell age 85 of Smithville, passed away Sunday night, June 7, 2020 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was born February 27, 1935 to her parents, the late Hurshell and Harriett Martha Martin Judkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Roscoe Ferrell and 2 children, Janie Ferrell and Jackie Ferrell. Ms. Martha was a Baptist and a retired factory worker. She is survived by 2 children, Kenneth Ferrell of Smithville and Jonah Maysam of Richland, Washington; granddaughter, Darya Maysam. There will be a Private Interment held at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. No Visitation or Services will be held. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Eddie Wayne Herman

June 6, 2020

71 year old Eddie Wayne Herman of Sparta passed away Thursday at his home. He grew up in Liberty and attended DeKalb County High School. He also attended the Johnson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Herman worked for Douglas Aircraft in Smithville, Avco Aircraft in Nashville, and he did construction work. Herman was born to the late Troy and Minnie Herman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Certain of Liberty and a grandson, Michael Ferm of Blair, Nebraska. Herman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Luna Herman. Daughter, Cindy Herman of Sparta; son, John Herman and daughter-in-law Beverly of Sparta; and daughter Cristy Herman of Sparta. The family will receive friends Saturday at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta from 4-7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Elmore Judd and Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Oak Lawn Funeral Home inĀ  Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.




Shanell Marie Paine

June 5, 2020

Shanell Marie Paine age 38 of Smithville, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020 in Sparta. She was born May 31, 1982 to her parents, Roy Paine and Lisa Craft Grissom. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Robert Craft, Sr. and Roy Paine; grandmother, Louise Paine; uncle, Robert Craft, Jr. Shanell worked at Wal-Mart. She was a very loving and liked person by so many and had a very contagious laugh. She is survived by her mother, Lisa Grissom of Smithville; father, Roy (Rose) Paine of McMinnville; sister, Samantha (George) Melson of Smithville; 3 step-brothers, Timothy Blakely, Jr., Isaiah Taylor, Aaron Whitaker all of McMinnville; maternal grandmother, Fredia Craft of Smithville; 3 aunts, Jennifer (Steve) Howard of Smithville, Kathy Thompson and Vickie Clemons both of Indiana; 1 niece, Raiden Griffin of Smithville; 3 step-nieces and 1 step-nephew all of McMinnville; companion, Chris Corbin of Smithville and numerous cousins. The family has chosen a direct cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:AM Saturday, June 6, 2020 at her Grandmother’s (Fredia) home at 927 Students Home Road in Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Sue Frazier Sifford

Mrs. Sue Frazier Sifford, age 64 of Smithville passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 at her residence.

Sue was born October 5, 1955 in Smithville to her parents, the late Harold, Sr. & Dorothy Lamberson Frazier. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Shelia Whitford. She was a member of Smithville First Baptist Church and was a Preschool Teacher with the First Methodist Preschool in Smithville.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Chad Ramsey will officiate. Burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, from 5-8pm & on Sunday, from 11am until the service time at 1pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Sifford of Smithville. Daughter, Carla Sue Madewell of Smithville. 3 Grandchildren, Madalyn Sifford, Gabe Madewell & Brody Madewell. 3 Sisters, Martha Brown of Smithville, Jane (Thomas) Groom of Smithville & Mary (Emilio) Barrientos of Smithville. Brother, Billy (Buffy) Frazier of Lascassas. Brothers-in-law, Ron (Patsy) Sifford of Smithville, Calvin (June) Sifford of Dibrell, and Ed Whitford of Smithville. Special Family, Leighann Summers, Victoria, JT, Eric. Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins also survive.




James Matthews

June 4, 2020

James Matthews, age 73, of Liberty passed away on Wednesday, June 3 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5 at 11am at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with interment to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Bro. Bobby Thompson will be officiating the service. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4-7pm and on Friday from 9am until the time of the service at 11. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed.

Mr. Matthews was born to the late John Oval and Betty Frances Murphy. He is also preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters: Martha Todd, Patrica Shoemake, Jena Hesson, Brenda Taylor, Helen Ervin, William Matthews, Willie Matthews & Terry Murphy; and 1 grandchild: Tyler Durden. He was also a retired foreman at Pirtle Nursery.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years Darlene Matthews of Liberty; 8 children: Debbie Nokes, Charlotte Parsley, Sherry (Wesley) Chandler, Darlene Grisham, Tonya (Shannon) Cantrell, Greg (Trudie) Matthews, Priscilla (Bobby) Mingle, & Chris (Dana) Stanley; 18 grandchildren: Jessica (Shannon) Anderson, Brandon (Kalah) Donnell, Noah Parsley, Amanda England, Dillan Matthews, Hannah Grisham, Justin Grisham, Kaylee Cantrell, Levi Cantrell, Christian Matthews, Zachery Matthews, Austin McCoy, Nikki (Joey) Pillow, Brittany (Gage) Mingle, Zackary Stanley, Caleb Gingeridge, Harlee Stanley & Seth Stanley; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters: Pamela (Kevin) Cain, Roy (Debbie) Matthews, Randall Neal, Doug (Norma) Murphy & Kathy Murphy (Ruben Vega); 1 brother-in-law- Grady Taylor; and 1 sister-in-law- Rita Matthews; a host of nieces & nephews also survive.

Junior Wayne Estes

June 4, 2020

59 year old Junior Wayne Estes of White Bluff passed away April 2 at Tri Star Horizon Medical Center. He worked in Tree Service. A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. and burial will be in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery in the Pea Ridge Community. No visitation will be held. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Junior Estes and Susie Johnson Farris and two sisters, Diane Horn and Trena Barrett. Survivors include two sisters, Denise Maynard of Liberty and Renee Keaton of Smithville. Step dad, Robert and Paula Farris of Smithville. Three aunts, Nell Hale of Smithville, Eula Presley of McMinnville, Christine Murphy of Liberty and an uncle, Toy and Fay Lawson of Liberty. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that anyone attending the service to please bring balloons to release if they would like.
