Dorothy “Dot” Dean Thomas Webster

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Dean Thomas Webster, age 85 of Sykes, TN, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019.

Mrs. Webster was born September 18, 1934 in Liberty, TN, a daughter of the late James Ed Thomas and Ollie Poss Thomas. She married J T Webster on December 22, 1956 and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2018. She was also preceded in death by siblings; Wilma Taylor, Mazelle Cruz, Frances Frazier, Lulu Shelton, Fanny Todd, and James Thomas.

Mrs. Webster was a 1952 graduate of Liberty High School. She began worked at DTC Communications full time for thirty years from 1969 until her retirement in 1999. After her retirement, she worked continued to work at DTC Communications part time from 1999 until 2013. Mrs. Webster was a longtime member of the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, having taught Sunday School for several years. Mrs. Dot was an Auxiliary Member of the Gideons International. She and her late husband, J T were both very active in the Gideons.

Mrs. Webster is survived by Two Sons; Greg (Pixie) Webster of Gordonsville, TN, and Gavin (Kelli) Webster of Watertown, TN. Grandchildren; Jenny Dill, Shaun (Skylar Locke) Webster, and Bryce Webster. Great-grandchild; Parker Smith. Sister-in-Law; Lurlie Underwood of Sykes, TN. Brother; Eddie Wayne Yelverton.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Webster are scheduled to be conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2PM with Eld. Steven Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with the Webster family will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Saturday from 1PM until 8PM and again on Sunday from 12PM until the time of the service at 2PM.

In lieu of flowers, the Webster family requests donations in Mrs. Dorothy’s memory be made to the Union Hill Cemetery Mowing Fund.

Ima Nell Vanatta

Ima Nell Vanatta age 82, of Dowelltown passed away Friday morning at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. She was born April 12, 1937 to her parents the late Floyd “Cuz” and Lilly Frances Luna Young. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Vanatta; a son, Glenn Vanatta; and several brothers and sisters. Ms. Vanatta was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church and was a factory worker. She is survived by her 2 children, Jerry Vanatta of Dowelltown, and Audrey Annette (David) Zoller of Sparta; grandchild, Tamirah Lance; great-grandchildren, Tristen Vanatta, Trevor Lance, Brayden Nicholas; brother, Nelson (Dean) Young of Smithville; sister, Thelma Evans of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Monday December 30, 2019 at 11:AM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Don Mathis officiating and burial to follow in Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday from 12:noon until 6 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jimmy G. Oakley

December 28, 2019

78 year old Jimmy G. Oakley of Liberty passed away Friday at Alive Hospice, Murfreesboro. He was a farmer, a member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, and an active volunteer with God’s Food Pantry for many years. Jimmy was also a former director of DTC Communications and DeKalb Farmers Co-op. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Billie Friel will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. All visitation and the funeral will be at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 58 years Hilda Oakley. Children, Susan and Chuck Gann and Clark and Lisa Oakley. Grandchildren, Whitney and Alex Cripps, McKenzie Gann, Cason Oakley (Kylie), and Addison Oakley. Great grandchildren, Everett Cripps and Easton Oakley. A brother, Louie and Vivian Oakley and several nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Oakley and Grace Allen; a sister, Mary Ann Oakley; and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Judy Oakley; and a nephew, Darryl Oakley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to God’s Food Pantry or the Gideons in Jimmy’s memory. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Lem Samuel “Sam” Hickey

Lem Samuel “Sam” Hickey age 80, of Smithville passed away Thursday December 26, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born January 5, 1939 to his parents, the late James Samuel and Alma Lillian Coleman Hickey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie, Johnny, Columbus, and Eugene Hickey; sisters, Erma Johnson, and Geneva Garwood; step-son, Donald Ray Veers. Mr. Hickey did drywall having worked for and with several local contractors. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hickey of Smithville; 4 children, Edward (Beth) Hickey of Lebanon, Danita (George) Henry, Lisa (Charles) Allen, and Rita (Randy) Graham all of Cookeville; step-son, Greg Veers of Baxter. grandchildren, Tausha Grady, Bryan Norrod, Alan Hickey, Sean Hickey, Nicole (Coley) Bean, Ethan Henry, Emily Allen, Heather Nixon, Abbie Rachel Allen; step-grandchildren, Kristen Veers, Destinee Santizo, and Chelsey Stewart; special great-grandchild, Christian Baltazar Santizo;4 great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Donnie (Betty) Hickey; sisters, Dorthy Allen, Rosa Garwood, Clara Fox, Annie (Jessie) Flatt, and Joyce Byrd. Funeral services will be Sunday December 30, 2019 at 1:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Darren Kinzer and Bro. Bryan Hickey officiating and burial to follow in the Hickey Family Cemetery in Putman County. Tim Granstaff

December 28, 2019

55 year old Tim Granstaff of Alexandria passed away Thursday at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was a construction worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Mark Stinnett and Mark Medley will officiate and burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Granstaff and Betty Jo Poston. Survivors include sisters, Tammie Hearn and Teresa Powell. Nephews, Tim and Shelly Hearn and Tyler Hearn. Holding a special place in Tim’s heart, Amanda Bilbrey and Chad Hunter. In lieu of flowers, Tim requested that donations be made to Chad’s Run. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Ms. Sandra Gaile Tittsworth Jones

Ms. Sandra Gaile Tittsworth Jones, age 77, of McMinnville, TN, died Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born September 05, 1942, in Smithville, TN, retired from the accounts receivable department at the local Carrier plant, was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the prayer shawl ministry. Ms. Jones was preceded in death by her parents Haskell and Maudelle Parker Tittsworth, sisters Ellen Faye Tittsworth Cantrell and Jane Tittsworth Rawls, and brother Billy Eugene Tittsworth.

Survivors include her children Troy A. (Chip) Jones, Jr. and wife Janet and Angela Gaile Jones Bandy and husband Jeff, grandchildren Hayden, Griffin, and Eli Jones, Ethan Bandy and wife Kelci, and Ellen Bandy, sister Betty Hale, and brother Brownie Tittsworth and wife Lillian.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, December 29, 2019, at the Outreach Building of First United Methodist Church. Rev. John Purdue, Rev. Tommy Vann, and Rev. Adam Rush officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Outreach Building of First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Main St., McMinnville, TN 37110.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1629 Williams Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
