William Charles Lee Pack

William Charles Lee Pack, the 4 day old infant son of Nathan Pack and Destiny Ambrose, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 6th at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was born Saturday, February 2, 2019 in McMinnville. He was preceded in death by great-grandmother Kay Pack and great-grandfather, Bill Ambrose. In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Michell Anderson, Charles B. Pack and Billy Ambrose all of Smithville and Barbara Hershman of Cookeville; great-grandparents, Patsy Gibbs of Dowelltown and Kathy Ambrose of Smithville; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Graveside services and interment will be 3:30 PM Friday, February 8, 2019 at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Joyce Yvonne Lillian Graham Tye

Joyce Yvonne Lillian Graham Tye age 85 of Smithville and a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents , John and Anna Graham, Vernon and Emma Gauen; husband, Billy A. Tye; brothers, John Graham, Bob Graham, Bud Graham; sister, Dolores Nance. She was a homemaker and member of the Highland View Church of Christ in Oak Ridge. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 children, David Tye of Oliver Springs, TN, Cheryl Tye Baxter and husband, David of Dowelltown, TN; 5 grandchildren, Andrew Scruggs of Clinton, TN, Emilee (Michael) Gorman of Clinton, TN, Alan Tye of Oliver Springs, TN, Adam Baxter of Murfreesboro, TN and Wendy Baxter of Murfreesboro, TN; 2 great-grandchildren, Audrey and Lily Baxter of Murfreesboro. There will be a public graveside service and interment for family and friends 1 PM Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Campbell County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Levi Dodd officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Highland View Church of Christ, in memory of Ms. Tye. DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville is in charge of the arrangements.




Carl “Puggy” Cook

Carl “Puggy” Cook of Alexandria passed away Monday afternoon February 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 16, 1943 to the late Roy and Hazel Barrett Cook. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Upper Helton Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by great-grandson: Dylan Harwell. Funeral services for Puggy will be held 11:AM Friday February 8, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Jimmy Arms and David Revelle officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday 4 PM until 8 PM, Thursday 11:AM until 8 PM and Friday 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Cook of Alexandria; 3 children Melinda (Mark) Miller of Smithville, Tina (Matt) Gipson, and Ernie (Sunshine) (Kristen) Cook both of Alexandria; 6 Grandchildren: Jamie (Holly) Anderson, Josh (Melissa) Miller, Jaya (Jerry) Harwell, Shannon (Jessica) Anderson, Tosha (Tommy) Maynard, Makayla Cook; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Brothers: Joe (Breanda) Cook of Watertown, Ronnie (Sue) Cook of Smithville; 3 Sisters: Dorothy Wooden of Alexandria, Pam Young and Lisa Rhody both of Smithville. George Edward Griffin

George Edward Griffin age 77 of Smithville, passed away Sunday night, February 3, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born January 22, 1942 to his parents, the late Clyde and Ludie Mae Hicks Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Griffin; sister, Lorelle Murphy and brother, Eston Griffin. George was a nurseryman. He is survived by 1 son, Daryl (Denise) Griffin of Smithville; 1 granddaughter, Sabrina (Cody) Wells of Hill Air Force Base, Utah; 2 great-grandchildren, Elias and Eagen Wells. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Thursday, February 7, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Griffin family will be Wednesday 2 PM until 8 PM and Thursday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Dave Mayo, Jr.

Dave Mayo, Jr. age 72 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday morning, January 30, 2019 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. He was born September 26, 1946 to his parents, the late Dave and Annie May Mayo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elizabeth Mayo; son, Daniel Mayo; 2 sisters, Mable Mooneyham and Jean Bilbrey and 2 brothers, Howard and George Mayo. Dave was a member of the House of Prayer and retired from Carrier. Survivors include 2 sons, Michael Mayo and Greg Mayo both of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Michael Mayo, Destinee Mayo, Ashley Mayo, Gregory Mayo, Kelly Mayo and Christina Mayo; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Buddy (Marcia) Mayo, David Mayo, Teddy (Barbara) Mayo and Roy Mayo all of Woodbury; sister-in-law, Jean May of Gassaway; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Friday, February 1, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 12 Noon until 8 PM and Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Maxine Clark Spurgeon

Maxine Clark Spurgeon age 95 of Newport, TN and a native of DeKalb County, passed away Tuesday morning, January 29, 2019 at Wellington Manor in Newport. She was born January 20, 1924 to her parents, the late Harry and Ida Taylor Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Love and long-time special friend, Bill Ervin. Maxine was a Baptist and a retired shirt factory worker and she enjoyed sewing. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lowhorn Cueny of Jupiter, FL; son, Randy (Pat) Spurgeon of Newport, TN; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Jepsen of McLean, VA, Tamara (Todd) Riley of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, Stacy Self and Stephanie Miller both of Dandridge, TN and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 11: 00 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt. Holly Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Ms. Maxine. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
