Rex Alan Droste age 61 of Liberty passed away Tuesday night, November 27, 2018 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born February 1, 1957 to his parents, Leo and Evelyn Jacobson Droste. He was a published author, worked at IBM, he sang at NHC HealthCare and the Webb House and was a member of the Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by 2 children; companion, Anne Thiel of Liberty; parents, Leo and Evelyn Droste of Lebanon; siblings, Roxanne Burleigh of Lebanon, Paul (Joani) Droste of Portland, Connie Benson (Doug Conyer) of Westmoreland, Mark Droste (Barbara) of Murfreesboro and Cheryl (Larry) Flanery of Westmoreland; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. There will be a Celebration of Life Service held 11:AM Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. David Hill officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 10:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice, in memory of Rex. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

68 year old Ernest Gray Murphy of Smithville passed away Friday, November 16 at NHC Smithville. He was a self employed concrete finisher. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m. at the Smithville Nazarene Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the memorial service at 5 p.m.. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnel and Della Hale Murphy; one son, William Michael Murphy; a brother, William Selmar Murphy; and a sister, Minnie Lee Poss. Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie and Brian Leist and Veronica and Gary Johnson all of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Christian and Nick Underhill, Mikey Steinbach, Alexis Atnip and Savanna Murphy all of Smithville. Five sisters, Frances and George Fincher of McMinnville, Dimple and Charles Blanchfield, Donna and Mike Hewell all of Smithville, Darlene and David Griffith of Gassaway and Denise Redmon of Soddy Daisy and mother of his children, Drenda Murphy of Smithville. W.C. “Junior” Gibbs age 82 of Lebanon, died Monday evening, Nov. 26, 2018 at his residence. Born April 2, 1936 in Dekalb County he was the son of the late William Carl Gibbs and Geneva Walden Gibbs and was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Reynolds and brother, Danny Gibbs. He was retired from Allied Meter Co. and was a member of Westland United Methodist Church. Junior is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Gill Gibbs; sisters, Ruby Reynolds and Jewell (Bobby) Ponder of Smithville, DeEtta Shelton and Alma (Jerry) Montgomery of Dowelltown, Irene (James) Jennings of Hermitage; a brother, Billy Gibbs of Dowelltown; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Brent Davis and Steve Combs officiating. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. till service time Friday. Pallbearers, Larry Bain, Hunter Jordan, Bill Stephens, Jason Turner, Blake and Brandon Bass, Aaron Jenkins, Tim Goolsby. Honorary pallbearers, Sam Swindell, Ken and Kenny Scott, Dewight Huddleston. J.C. McCormick age 85 of McMinnville, passed away Thursday November 22, 2018 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born October 3, 1933 to his parents, the late Lester and Myrtle Adcock McCormick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Melvin McCormick and sister, Faye Adcock. He was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church , retired truck driver and a member of Masonic Lodge #77. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 42 years, Charlotte McCormick of McMinnville; 1 son, Jamie McCormick of Smithville; 3 daughters, Denise McCormick of Murfreesboro, Carla Young of McMinnville and Lori Kilgore of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Adcock, Dana West and Clay Kilgore; 4 great-grandchildren, Sadie and Shelby West, Chloe Adcock and Briar Rose Kilgore; 2 brothers, Leonard and Bobby McCormick both of Smithville; 3 sisters, Kathy Cannon of McMinnville, Linda Womack of Centertown, Ann Hallum of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. There will be a Masonic Service 7 p.m. Monday night, November 26, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m.Tuesday November 27, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 12 Noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert “Mike” Rhoten

70-year-old Robert “Mike” Rhoten of Baxter passed away Wednesday November 21, 2018 in Murfreesboro at the St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a retired C.P.A. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with internment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 4pm until 8pm and on Saturday from 10am until the service time at 11am.
Mr. Rhoten was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Glenna Mildred Cooper Rhoten; a Brother-in-law, Grady Waggoner; and his grandmother Roxie Cooper. Survivors include his loving wife of more than 50 years-Sharrion Rhoten of Baxter; 2 Daughters-Amanda and her husband Eric Parks of Murfreesboro, and Lori Rhoten of North Carolina; 1 Sister-Wanda Rhoten of Cookeville; 1 Granddaughter-Evelyn Rose Parks of Murfreesboro; Special Niece-Teresa Wright of Smithville; 3 Sisters-in-law-Oneda Waggoner of Smithville, Donna and her husband Jerry Moore of Baxter, and Minnie Shczech of TX. Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends also survive.
The family kindly asks that there be no floral donations sent to the funeral home but if you would like to make a memorial donation to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Mr. Rhoten’s memory, it would be greatly appreciated.

Edward Lee Judkins, Sr. age 55 of McMinnville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 20, 2018 from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born November 23, 1962 to his parents, the late John and Violet Judkins. He was a Baptist and worked topping trees. He is survived by 4 children, Edward “Eddie” Judkins, Jr. of Smithville, Amanda Judkins of Smithville, Lydia Judkins of Lafayette and Isaiah Judkins of Murfreesboro; step-son, Robert Davidson of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, Megan Judkins, Jacob McCown, Madison Carroll, Priscilla Carter, Stella Judkins, Brennan Atnip, Jase Atnip and Anniston Davidson; brother, John “JJ” Judkins of Smithville; sister, Elsie Judkins of Smithville; companion, Candida Davidson of McMinnville. Graveside Services and interment will be 11:AM Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Jaco-Judkins Cemetery. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service at 11:AM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
