Joyce Saylors Farless

Joyce Saylors Farless age 76, passed away at her daughter’s residence in McMinnville Saturday morning. She was born March 1, 1942 to her late parents, James Oscar and Nellie Elizabeth Braswell Saylors. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, James Olan Saylors, and Clarence Auburn Saylors; sisters, Ruby Nell Ferrell, and Glema King. Ms. Farless was a retired factory worker and was affiliated with the Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Rita Lanier of McMinnville, Kathy Dye of McMinnville, Jeffery McClaran of Kentucky, Lori Jones of Colorado, and Dori Perry of Ind.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Ms. Farless will be held on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at 2:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Pamela Sue McKeown

54 year old Pamela Sue McKeown of Dowelltown passed away Wednesday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was a cook. The family has chosen direct cremation and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold John McKeown, Sr. and parents, Donald Alvin and Mary Catherine Willett Stroh. Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Jean McKeown and partner, Josh Basinger; son, James Arnold John McKeown, Jr. and friend, Brandy Lynn Newby; beloved beagle, Molly; grandchildren, Hayley Skye McKeown, Gracelynn Elizabeth McKeown, Koen Dean Basinger, and Jaxon Douglas Mackey; brothers, Bob and Deb Richardson of Dubuque, Iowa, Joe and Becky Robinson of Dubuque, Iowa, Greg and Vanessa Stroh of Rochelle, Illinois, Brian and Betty Stroh of Las Animas, Colorado; sisters, Tina and Gary Tigges of Durango,  Iowa, Kim and Steve McKinzie of Springfield, and Lisa Weinburg and Richard Thormann of Epworth, Iowa. Also surviving are Sarah Elizabeth Ross and Robert Davidson, who were like a daughter and son to Pam. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.




Jaxon Taylor Baumgard

October 8, 2018

Five year old Jaxon Taylor Baumgard recently passed away. He is survived by his parents Zach & Amber Baumgard and little sister Jordyn Baumgard.  A Memorial Service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, October 13, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be held Saturday October 13, 2018 from 10:AM until the time of the service at 12 Noon.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements.




Joseph Veltri

October 8, 2018

84 year old Joseph Veltri of Smithville passed away Friday at NHC Smithville. He was a retired truck driver and a Catholic. The funeral will be at the Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church in Florida at a date and time to be announced.  Burial will be in Forest Lawn North Pompano Beach, Florida. Veltri was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Elena Ianni Veltri; a daughter, Gloria Veltri; and a sister, Rosina Veltri. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Angela Veltri of Smithville. Two daughters, Rita and James Bell of Smithville and Elena and Brian Meyers of Florida. Five grandchildren, Eva and Brian Parks of Kentucky, Antonia Arlia of Florida, Katie and Derek Diener of Hawaii, Elizabeth and Peter Howard of Washington DC and Megan Bell of California. Six great grandchildren. Two sisters-in-law, Rita Brusco of Florida and Pina Brusco of New Jersey. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Brenda Gail Fields

Brenda Gail Fields age 65 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lena Parsley and Helen Self; sister, Deb Self and brother, Roy Allen Self. She retired from Kingston Timers and was a Christian. She is survived by 2 daughters, Ronda Lucci of Smithville, Amy (Stacy) Wheeler of Auburntown; 5 grandchildren, Serena and Adrian Lucci, Libby, James and Sarah Wheeler; 3 sisters, Misty Green of Dowelltown, Tabby Davis and Mary Alice Robertsen both of Smithville; brother, Jim Self of Liberty; special aunt, Linda Moser of Smithville; special extended family, Sammie Rae Maxwell of Smithville and several cousins also survive. The family has honored Brenda’s request to be cremated and there will be a Memorial Gathering on Tuesday 4 PM to 6 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Thurman Paul Ward

Morrison, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Thurman Paul Ward, age 91, was born June 22, 1927 and died October 6, 2018 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.

A retired boiler operator and maintenance for Cumberland Lumber Company, a United States Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Titus Page and Bytha Jane Simmons Ward. He was married on September 9, 1944 to Wilma Jean Martin Ward who preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Alice Christian, Murrell Lee Ward and Michael Ward; granddaughter, Mary Christian; grandson, Paul Houston Timothy Ward; brother, Marion Thomas Ward; and two sisters, Delma Haston and Bonnie Miller.

He is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Janice Ward of Smithville, TN, Kenneth and Audrey Ward of Rock Island, TN, David and Reda Ward of McMinnville, Thurman Lynn and Laurie Ward of Pikeville, TN, James Ward of North Carolina, and Tim Ward of Rock island, TN; three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Kenneth Braswell of Carthage, TN, Brenda and Ricky Henderson of Rock Island, TN and Linda and Tommy Thompson of McMinnville; twenty grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janice Tramel Ward of Smithville, TN; sister-in-law, Juanita Oliver of McMinnville; and special friend, Carol Varner of Morrison, TN.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 in High’s Chapel with Ray Skyles and Hershel Short officiating. Burial will follow in Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High’s.
