Kathleen Fay Hays

Kathleen Fay Hays age 67 of Auburntown died Monday evening, Oct. 1, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born Jan. 1, 1951 in New Orleans, LA, she was the daughter of Eileen Soulant Johnston and the late Johnny Johnston. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sandy and Butch Johnston and an infant twin sister. Kathy is survived by her husband, Jackson Sea Hays of Auburntown; children, John Alan (Monica) Freeman of McAllen, TX, Alicia Diane Freeman and Theodore Alan Freeman both of Auburntown; stepchildren, Angela Kay Hays of Manchester and Jackie Hays of Auburntown; 6 grandchildren, Ariana, A.J., Kassandra, Johnny, William and Tyler; mother, Eileen Johnston of McAllen, TX; sister, Karen (Richard) McLaughlin of McAllen, TX; brothers, Chris (Susie) Johnston of Poplarville, MS and Billy Johnston of McAllen, TX; nieces and nephews. A time of remembrance and memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Oct. 7, 2018 at Hunter Funeral Home at Watertown with Bro. Johnny Adcock officiating. Visitation with the family will be from Noon till service time on Sunday.




Tony Joe Corley

October 3, 2018

Mr. Tony Joe Corley, age 54, of Liberty, TN, passed away Tuesday Oct. 2, 2018.

Tony was born September 29, 1964, son of Ruth Hancock Corley and the late Billy Joe Corley. He graduated from DeKalb Co. High School in 1982; he was a construction worker and a Christian attending the Lancaster 7th Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Corley is survived by his mother:  Mrs. Ruth Hancock Corley of Liberty, TN; Brothers:  William Randall (Angie) Corley of Chapel Hill, TN; and James Quinn Corley of Smyrna, TN; Sister:  Kimberly (William) Turner of Smithville, TN; Aunt:  Rita Webb Sherrill of Lebanon, TN.

Funeral Services for Mr. Corley are scheduled to be conducted from the chapel of Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 2 PM with Bro. Leslie Walper officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery on Lower Helton.

Visitation with the Corley family will be at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria, on Wednesday from 4PM until 8PM and on Thursday from 11AM until service time at 2 PM.

Mary Helen Murphy

October 1, 2018

Mary Helen Murphy age 73 of Smithville and a longtime resident of Dowelltown and the Sycamore Community, passed away Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.  She was born August 24, 1945 to her parents, the late Robert and Louise Tarr Baker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Murphy; 2 sons, Ray Murphy, Jr. and Brian Murphy; 1 brother, H.B. Baker; 3 sisters, Georgia Barber, Bonnie Howell and Shirley Gibbs.  She was a homemaker and a retired factory worker.  Mary was a Baptist.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Thursday, October 4, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Timothy Baker officiating and burial will follow in Sycamore Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 4:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM.  Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Murphy of Nashville; 3 grandsons, Jon Murphy of Nashville, Nathanyel (Natasha) Pedigo of Smithville and Trenton (Kim) Pedigo of Dowelltown; 11 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sophia, Jackson, Kenadee, Katie, Alexis, Madison, Aiden, Landon, Lillian and Rylan; 3 brothers, Billy Baker of Smithville, Glen (Billie Ann) Baker of Liberty, Jimmy (Fay) Baker of Smithville; 3 sisters, Betty Scurlock of carthage, Dorothy Leach of McMinnville and Sue Mitchell of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews.  The family would like to express their appreciation to Cookeville Regional Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ms. Mary.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Varena Paris Thompson

Mrs. Varena Paris Thompson, age 96, of Brush Creek, TN, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018.

Mrs. Varena was born August 20, 1922 in Brush Creek, TN, daughter of the late Edgar Campbell Paris and Levia Ballengar Paris. She was also preceded in death by Siblings; Estes Paris, Alton Paris, and Virginia Oakley, Sister-in-Law; Oma Dale Webster, and Brother-in-Law; Edward Thompson. Mrs. Varena married L.V. Thompson on December 18, 1943 and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1996.

Mrs. Thompson graduated from Gordonsville High School in 1940 and then later from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. She worked for the Smith County School System for thirty years until her retirement in 1984, spending most of her tenure at Gordonsville Elementary School. Mrs. Varena also taught at Donelson Elementary School and Woodbine Elementary School. She was a longtime faithful member of the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by two Daughters and Son-in-Laws; Brenda and Charles Prichard of Brush Creek, TN, and Renee and Ray Wisdom of Alexandria, TN. Grandchildren; Stan (Michelle) Prichard, Stephanie (Greg) Fish, Stein Prichard, Logan Clark, and Morgan Clark. Great-Grandchildren; Dalton (Caroline) Fish, Spencer (Victoria) Prichard, and Shelby Prichard. Sister; Betty Jo Hackett Manning of Alexandria, TN, and Brother-in-Law; Bob Oakley of Brush Creek, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Thompson are scheduled to be conducted from the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2PM with Bro. Dusty Desimone and Bro. Dennis Croslin officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at the Gordosnville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Sunday from 12PM to 8PM, and at the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Monday from 10AM until 2PM.

Donations in Mrs. Varena’s memory may be made to the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Union Hill Cemetery Fund.

Jackie Lee Linder

September 27, 2018

65 year old Jackie Lee Linder of Alexandria passed away Tuesday at Trousdale Medical Center. He was a Southern Baptist and a self employed construction worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Adcock Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Linder was preceded in death by his parents, Classie and Flossie Bain Linder; siblings, J.C. Linder, Ruby Gerrard, Martha Caldwell, and Joe Linder. Survivors include  five children, Chris and Jamie Linder of Gallatin, Teresa Gibbs and Larry Durnley of Hartsville, Benjamin and Alicia Linder of Gallatin, Amanda and Cam Linder of Gallatin,  and Sandy Keen of Nashville. Fifteen grandchildren, T.J. and Brittany Gibbs, Logan and Destiny Gibbs both of Hartsvile, Nikki Green of Alabama, Bennie Elaine Linder of Gallatin, Frankie and Mary Linder of Lebanon, Cameron Linder and Zoe Linder of Lafayette, Erica Cheyanne Linder, Jayden Taylor, Zachery Taylor, Calee Lenae Linder, Cason Linder, Zayne Bennett, Taylor Bennett all of Gallatin, and Brooklynn Keen of Westmoreland. Three great grandchildren, Kayson Gibbs of Hartsville, Aryia Oreo Linder of Gallatin, and Aspen McFarland of Gallatin, companion, Kathy Swain and her children Ronnie, Brittany, and Erica. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, all donations please be made to the funeral home to help with burial expenses.




Louise Hendrixson

September 27, 2018

Ms. Louise Hendrixson age 80 of Smithville passed away Wednesday afternoon September 26, 2018 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville.  She was born August 6, 1938 to her parents, the late Johnny and O’Fallon Pinegar.  She was a Baptist and retired from Nursery work.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband JD Hendrixson; Children: Randall and Jerry Hendrixson; Sister: Dean Vanatta; Half-brother: Jay L. Young.  Funeral services will be held 11:AM Saturday September 29, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Thomason officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be Friday 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:AM until time of the service at 11:AM.  Survivors include Sons: Bobby (Joyce) Hendrixson of Dibrell, Phillip (Roxanne) Hendrixson of Smithville, Ricky Hendrixson of Smithville; Grandchildren: Michael, Daniel, Ricky, Billy Michael, Amanda, Dane, Nelson, Jayme, Travis, Scotty, Cory, Natasha; Sister: Gladys Young of Smithville: Several Great-Grandchildren, Special nieces and nephews also survive.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
