Mr. Danny Thomas Long, age 70, passed away at his residence in Smithville on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was a retired truck driver and attended Martin Chapel Fellowship Church. He was an Army veteran and had a love of the great outdoors.
He was born on May 17, 1953 in Atlanta, GA to his parents Alvin & JoAnn Long who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Sandra Carr and Sherri Boyer.
Visitation with the Long family will be on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from noon until the funeral service at 2:00. Pastor Carol Ann Richardson will be officiating. There will be no burial. The family has chosen cremation following the services.
Survivors include his fiance, Kimmberly Wright Griffin of Smithville, 1 son, Danny (Jessica) Long of AL, 1 daughter, Nikki Long of TX, 4 grandchildren, Alicia Coronado, Emily Jacobs, Brad Pena and Mason Long, 1 sister, Brenda Peterson of McMinnville.

Johnnie Mai Hancock Watson age 84 of Donelson, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Thomas Dekalb Hospital in Smithville. Born Oct. 20, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Clarence Hancock and Gladys Mai Dunn Hancock and was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Wright Watson and her son, Philip Watson. Johnnie was a retired employee of SunTrust Bank and a member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. She is survived by her brother, Dan Hancock and his wife, Norma of Smithville and their children, Delynn (Tim) Burgess, Sharon Hancock, Jeff Hancock and Wade (Mary) Hancock and their children, Emma and Grady; daughter-in-law, Linda Watson of Mt. Juliet; sister-in-law, Gale (Jimmy) McKnight and their daughter, Kristin Jackson. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Prosperity Cemetery with Dr. Poly Rouse officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till Noon on Thursday at Hunter Funeral Home. Pallbearers, Jeff, Wade and Grady Hancock, Bobby Howard, Ricky Knight and Franklin Martin. Mrs. Margaret Lynn Foutch Turner age 86, of Alexandria, TN, passed away Monday June 26, 2023 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN.
Mrs. Turner was born July 8,1936 in Alexandria, TN, daughter of the late Alva Jennings Foutch and Lillie Mai Vandergriff Foutch. She graduated Liberty High School in 1954 and married Jimmy Ray Turner on December 9, 1955. Mrs. Turner worked for George Corley Insurance in Alexandria, TN for 20 plus years. She was a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church where she was the organist for over 50 years.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband of 68 years Jimmy Ray Turner of Alexandria, TN; family members who cared for her; Her Girls: Emily (Andy) Turbeville and their children, Kyleigh (Caleb) Stanley and their son Bayler, Jordyn Turbeville, Carson Turbeville and Amelia Grace Turbeville; Jessica (Matt) Stanley and their children, Turner Stanley and Tillie Kate Stanley; Tammy (Tony) Baird, Tina (Ronnie) Ford, Cathy (Gary) Tyree, Darlene (Larry) Marlin, David (Roenia) Turner; numerous other family.
Mrs. Turner is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday June 30, 2023 at 2PM at the First Baptist Church Alexandria, TN with Bro Billy Friel and Bro Gary Rickman officiating. Interment will be in Hillview Memorial Cemetery.
The Turner family will receive friends on Thursday June 29, 2023 from 12 Noon to 8PM and on Friday June 30, 2023 from 10AM until service time at 2PM all at the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
Memorial donations in Mrs. Turner’s memory may be made to the Alexandria First Baptist Church Youth Music Fund.
Archie Ray Garmer

Archie Ray Garmer age 55, passed away June 24, 2023 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was born March 20, 1968 to his parents Ronald Lee and Patricia Ann McGee Garmer. Mr. Garmer served in the United States Army having Retired in 2016. He is survived by his wife, Alysha Garmer of Smithville; 4 children, Marissa Garmer (Steven) Barnes of Hamilton, MS, Krisann Garmer of Sparta, Sydnie Garmer of Smithville, and Rylee Garmer of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Mason Garmer, Ivy Jean Newell, Aislinn Dunn, Kenneth Dunn, and Benjamin Giles; parents, Ronald Lee and Patricia Ann Garmer; sister, Angela (Rick) Cramer of Kissimmee, FL; father and mother -in-law, Tommy and Judy Whitaker of Iuka, MS; brother-in-law, Scott (Linette) Pace of McMinnville; host of nieces and nephews also survive. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel at 2:00PM. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29 at 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. In addition to flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Wounded Warrior. Emogene (Hooper) Atnip

Emogene (Hooper) Atnip age 94 of Smithville, was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday Morning June 25, 2023. Emogene was born on June 28, 1928 to her parents the late Herman and Willie Hooper. Emogene, “Mama Jean” to most of her family and friends, valued Jesus and family above all else. She devoted everything she had to taking care of her family, raising her son and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Church of God for the majority of her life. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Boyd Atnip; daughter-in-law, Lori Atnip; and great-grandson, Elias Atnip. She is survived by her son Dennis Atnip; two grandsons, Eric Atnip and Jordan (Morgan) Atnip; great-grandchildren, Savory and Neveah Brown, Wyatt Atnip, and Jude Atnip: sister, Sandra Turner. Funeral services for Ms. Emogene will be held 4:PM Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with her grandson, Jordan Atnip officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Monday 4:PM until 6:PM and Tuesday 2:30PM until the time of service at 4:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jean Neal age 85 of Liberty, passed away Saturday morning, June 24, 2023 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. She was born March 18, 1938 to her parents, the late William and Dexie Pursell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul Neal; sisters-in-law, Linda Pursell, Billie (Houston) Herman and Mary Frances (James) Hale. Jean was retired from Horace Mall in Nashville and worked for 7 years with the DeKalb County Schools Transportation Department. She was a faithful member of the Salem Baptist Church. She is survived by brothers, J.T. (Peggy) Pursell of Liberty and Dale Pursell of Liberty; sister, Marie (Dale) Malone of Mt. Juliet; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was the matriarch of the family and lived out life as a Godly virtuous woman. Funeral services will be 1PM Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Don Mathis and Bro. Wilson Williams officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 4PM until 8PM and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
