John Wilson Foster of Statesville, formerly of Smithville, age 83 passed away at his residence on September 27, 2023. He was born July 26, 1940, to his parents the late Alvie Rosco and Mattie Lee Puckett Foster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Foster; sister, Juanita Redmon; brother, Rosco Foster. Mr. Foster He was affiliated with Smith Fork Baptist Church and Buckners Chapel Methodist Church and worked at Auto Body Work. He is survived by children, Tony Foster of Statesville, and Annette Foster of PA; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Hall of Statesville. Funeral services will be Monday October 2, 2023, at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday October 2, 2023 11:00AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Wanda Nell Teachman Gard

Wanda Nell Teachman Gard age 90 of Smithville, was born September 11, 1933, in Lamont, OK to her parents, the late Edward H. and Neva Mae Cowan Teachman, and went to heavenly reward on Thursday September 28, 2023, at her residence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Gard, 7 brothers, Edward, Lawrence, George, Blain, Harold, Carl and Doug; 2 sisters, Geneva and Lora Jane. Mrs. Wanda was a faithful member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church, Eastern Star for over 70 years, Senior Citizens, Ladies Who Lunch and Women on Missions. She loved her family and supported them in their activities. She didn’t let her age stop her, she loved traveling with family and her church. Mrs. Wanda leaves behind to cherish her memory, 4 children, Denise (Rick) Holcomb, Karla (Bo) Warrick and Michele (Pete) Roller all of Smithville and Bill (Susan) Gard of Murfreesboro; 10 grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Sledge, Ashle (Michael) Wiley, Rachel Holcomb (Mitchell), Samantha (Michael) Rohling, Johnna Roller (Brandon), Kaitlyn Roller, Nathan (Brittney) Gard, Ben (Traci) Gard, Brooke (David) Nickens, Bryce (Ashley) Gard; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Twylah (Bob) Alameda and Edrie Zwiers and sisters-in-law, Barbara Teachman and Sherri Gard; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family has honored Mrs. Wanda’s request to be cremated. Memorial Services and Eastern Star Service will be 6 PM Monday, October 16, 2023, at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church with Bros. Dwayne Cornelius, Scott Pack and Bill Robertson. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, October 16 4:PM until 6 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Effie Lee Ellis

Mrs. Effie Lee Ellis, age 97 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday evening at her residence. She was a retired factory worker and attended the Mt. Herman Baptist Church. She loved and adored her family.
She was born on November 20, 1925 in Smithville, TN to her parents, William and Mary Elizabeth Tramel who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glen Ellis, brother and sister-in-law, L.C. & Lorene Tramel.
Visitation with the Ellis family will be on Thursday from 11:00 to 8:00 and on Friday from 10:00 until the time of service at 1:00 in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Gay and Bro. Johnathon Willoughby will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by one niece, Janice Ward of Smithville, one nephew Larry (Wanda) Tramel of Liberty, 3 great nieces, Natasha (Randy) Vaughn, Resha Hattaway and Rena (Johnathon) Willoughby all of Smithville, great nephew, Lincoln Tramel of Liberty, great great nephews, Drake (Amanda) Vaughn, Quentin (Ashley) Cook, Zack Snyder and Jathan Willoughby, great great nieces, Lydia Willoughby and Ellie Vaughn , great great great nephews and niece, Aiden Cook, Amelia Vaughn and Asher Vance all of Smithville. Lydia and Jathan Willoughby were her pride and joy.
In addition to flowers the family has requested donations please be made to Mt. Herman Baptist Church Youth Group.

Richard William Steinbach

Richard William Steinbach age 67, of Smithville, passed away Sunday September 24, 2023, at N H C of Smithville. He was born April 10, 1956, to his parents the late Fred John and Elsie Mai Green Steinbach. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Jordan Steinbach; a brother, John Steinbach. Mr. Steinbach was a member of Keltonburg Church of Christ and he was a Retired Paramedic. He is survived by daughters, Wendy (Patrick) Clayborn of Dowelltown, Stephanie (Jason) Brown of Smithville, and Natalie (Robert Jernigan) Steinbach of Milton; grandchildren, Erika Brown, Jacob Moore, Levi Walker; sisters, Beverly (Ronnie ) Pack, Kathy (Kenny) Wright; nieces, Kira (Mike) Futral, and Kelsey Steinbach; nephews, Daymon (Terra) Rigsby, Nick (Christie) Wright, and Mikey Steinbach; 5 great nieces and nephews; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive; special friends, Jimmy Poss and Bobby Koger. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 10:00AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM. The family ask in lieu of flowers donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Eugene Young

Mr. Robert Eugene Young, age 83 of Smithville, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a Baptist and an Air Force Veteran.
He was born on November 23, 1939 in Cleveland, OH to his parents, Thomas Eugene and Hazel Young, who preceded him in death.
The family has honored his wishes and chosen direct cremation.
Survivors of Mr. Young include his wife of 54 years, Sharon Young of Smithville; 2 children, David Dustin Young of TX, and Debra Young of Smithville; 1 granddaughter, Hannah Young of Pennsylvania.

Altie L. Dyer Knowles

Mrs. Altie L. Dyer Knowles passed away Wednesday morning, September 20,2023 at her residence. She was retired from Smithville Shirt Factory, a retired dietician with the DeKalb Co. School System and a retired caregiver. She was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ.
She was born on April 27, 1943 in Gainesboro, TN to her parents, Haskel and Flossie Pippin Dyer who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Stella Clemmons, Ella Chaffin and Linda Brown, 5 brothers, William, Hubert, Gordon, Franklin and Earl Dyer.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 and on Friday from 9:00 to the time of service at 1:00 in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Wayne Lankford and Bro. Dewey Dyer will be officiating. Burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gerald Knowles, 4 sons, Randall (Tracy) Knowles, Mark Knowles, Allen (Sheila) Knowles and Zachary Knowles all of Smithville, 3 grandchildren, Lukas and Clara Knowles and Mackenzie Patridge, 2 sisters, Reba Turner of Cookeville and Gladys Chaffin of MI, 1 brother, Raymond Dyer of McMinnville.
