Robert Lloyd Farris

April 24, 2023

Mr. Robert Lloyd Farris age 73 of Smithville passed away Thursday night, April 6 at his residence. He was retired from Star Mfg. and attended Peoples Pentecostal Church.

He was born on February 23, 1950 in Smithville, TN to his parents, Frank & Wilma Murphy Farris who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a stepson, Wayne Estes, 1 bother and 4 sisters.

The family has chosen direct cremation to honor Mr. Farris’s wishes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5 at 1:30pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Stewart Farris, 1 brother, Jimmy (Rebecca) Farris, 2 step-children, Nisy Maynard and Nae Keaton, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Bruce Ellory Van Langen

April 22, 2023

Bruce Ellory Van Langen, age 72, of Smithville passed away April 16th, 2023 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born May 16th, 1950 to his parents, the late Ronald and Lucia Van Langen. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his biological father, Elmer Olson. Mr. Van Langen was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Smyrna and he worked as the Marketing Director at MCRD. He loved fishing and all his pets, and also liked the Marvel Superheroes. He is survived by his children, Delaney Van Langen of Nebraska, Abbey Van Langen of Nebraska, Gracie Van Langen of Smithville and Matthew Goodman of Georgia; grandchildren, Vega Smith, Riley Sunderman, Lennon Sunderman, Breaker Stanteiski, Bering Stanteiski and Lucas Goodman. The family honored Mr. Van Langen’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge if the arrangements.




Louise Jones

April 22, 2023

Louise Jones age 85, of Smithville passed away Friday April 21, 2023 at her son’s home in Readyville. She was born July 24, 1937 to her parents the late, William and Vivien George Thomason. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Jones; children, Larry Ferrell, Garry Ferrell, Charlie Ferrell, and Dennis Ferrell; brothers, Billy Thomason, Jonah Thomason, and James Thomason; sisters, Betty Certain, Wanda Jenkins, and Patsy Thomason. Ms. Louise was a member of New Home Baptist Church and worked at the Shirt Factory. She was a religious lady and never lost her faith. Ms. Louise enjoyed reading her Bible front to back 3 times, listening to gospel music, fishing, baking, riding around looking at the scenery, flowers, and watching her grandkids play and grow up. She never met a stranger and loved meeting people. Her favorite saying she always told us, “You do right, you always come out right.” She believed those words and followed those words! Another saying she had was, “Treat people the way you want to be treated.” Ms. Louise is survived by her children, Wayne (Joan) Ferrell of Readyville, and Teresa Mayo of Smithville; grandchildren, Courtney Kaul, Corey Ferrell, Anthony Ferrell, Sara Ferrell and Nathan Mayo; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; sisters, Virginia Jones, and Janice Crook; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 11:AM Monday, April 24, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2:PM till 5:PM and Monday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Raymond Kelley

April 18, 2023

Mr. Raymond Kelley, age 82, of Dowelltown left his earthly home and entered into the Lords eternal presence on Sunday, April 16. He was a Baptist pastor having graduated from Fort Worth Seminary. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Association and a hobby carpenter as well. He was also a proud member of Dry Creek Baptist Church.

He was born on January 25, 1941 in Dyersburg, TN to his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Kelley, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a grandson, Brennan Kelley.

The family has chosen cremation to honor Mr. Kelley’s wishes. A memorial service will be held at Dry Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, May 13 at 1pm.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sharon Jones Kelley of Dowelltown; 5 children, Terry (Kristen) Reese of Dallas, GA, Anthony (Karen) Kelley of Huntsville, AL, James Reese (John Kennedy) of Dallas, GA, Anessa (Jason) Ladd of Dyersburg, TN, and Donny (Laura) Kelley of Mt. Juliet; 14 Grandchildren, Brandtly, Casey, Brycen, Chase, Elizabeth, Alex, Mason, Julia, Jack, Keegan, Brady, Kennedy, Ava, and Emma; Brothers, Danny and Tommy; Sisters, Kay and JoAnn; Sisters-in-law, Barbara, Lorna, and Pat; Very dear friends, John Meers and Emmitt Atkins; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive.

Larry E. Hale

April 17, 2023

Larry E. Hale age 71, passed away at his residence in Dowelltown, Sunday April 16, 2023. He was born July 25, 1951 to his parents, the late Grover Edgar and Ruby Alice Barrett Hale. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Houston and Helen Keith. Mr. Hale was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church and worked as a Truck Driver for Denny Lamp. He is survived by his wife of 47 years JoAnn Hale of Dowelltown; children; Jared Edgar Hale, Derrick Edmund Hale, and Bonnie Jaqueline Hale all of Dowelltown; grandson, Mason Bocephus Hale of Dowelltown; sister, Sherry (Gerald) Hall of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Sandra Kay (Ricky) Freeman of Smithville; several nephews, cousins, friends and family also survive. Funeral service will be held Thursday April 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Nathan Hale and Bro. W. D. Thomason officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday April 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM and on Thursday 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. The family has asked in lieu of flowers donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Steve A. Moggo

April 9, 2023

Steve A. Moggo age 64 of Cookeville went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, April 7, 2023. He was born July 2, 1958 to his parents, the late Howard LeRoy and Betty Jean Martines Moggo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Roy Moggo; father-in-law and wife, William Arnold Randolph and Donna. Steve worked with Orkin Pest Control for 19 years and MidState Pest Control for 3 years. He was a member, greeter and elder of the First United Pentecostal Church of Cookeville. Proverbs 17:22, A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, describes Steve. His contagious smile, pranking, picking, aggravating and he loved The Andy Griffith Show and impersonating Barney Fife. When it came work, he was a provider for his family, couldn’t sit still, and was always busy doing something. Some of the words that describe him are Faithful, Committed, Dedicated and Servant, and he was that to his family, church and work. Steve was a giant of a man and leaves such a legacy. He loved his grandbabies so much. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother that is going to be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish a world of memories, his wife of 31 years, Debbie Randolph Moggo of Cookeville; 4 children, Steven D. Moggo of Celina, Tiffany (Ben) Hopkins of McMinnville, Justin (Ashley) Randolph of Watertown and Chasity (Joshua) Zent of Cookeville; 9 grandchildren, Marissa Moggo, Charlie Moggo, Taylor Zent, Hannah Hopkins, Hadasah Hopkins, Makaylah Hopkins, Brooklyn Randolph, Savannah Randolph and Eli Zent; 3 great-grandchildren, Parker, Remington and Reagan Farris; siblings, David (Carol) Moggo, Nancy (Bob) Cinciala, Doug (Christine) Moggo, Julie (Dan) McCullough, Ronald Moggo and John (Heather Peever) Moggo all of Michigan and Linda (Roy) Jenkins of Hilham; mother-in-law, Cathy Randolph of Sparta; brothers-in-law, James Randolph of Sparta, Christopher (Jamie) Randolph of Smithville and William Matthew (Julie) Randolph of Sparta and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Worship Service will be 4 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at First United Pentecostal Church of Cookeville (875 S. Walnut Avenue, Cookeville) with Bishop Ron Phillips and Pastor Josh Hodum officiating and burial will follow in Nash Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 4 PM. All visitation will be held at the First United Pentecostal Church in Cookeville.
