Patricia (Pat) Ann “Young” Sain

Patricia (Pat) Ann “Young” Sain, 83 has gone to be with the Lord, her beloved husband as well as many other family members.

Patricia was born in Sparta, Tennessee on December 11, 1937, and left this earth on March 25, 2021. She lived in Hermitage, TN for most of her life and passed due to an extended illness. She was a devoted wife and mother. She had a large family whom she loved and was loved by everyone. Patricia was the youngest, surviving, of six siblings.

Patricia enjoyed her family, friends, and the time spent in taking care of her family. She was a longstanding member of Lakewood Baptist Church where her husband (James Donald) was the minister of music for many years.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Ann Bullington, son Jon T. Sain (Bonnie), Grandchildren – Daniel Bullington (Sarah), Cori Gaines (Ryan), and Gatlyn Sain. Great-grandchildren – Kingston, Norah, Eastland, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband James Donald Sain, mother and father Loretta & Haskell Young, siblings, Haskell Eugene Young, James Morris Young, Betty Sue (Young) Herndon, Joy (Young) Leighty, Joan (Young) Fitts.

Graveside Services and entombment will be on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2pm at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home from 12noon until 1:45pm. We are not accepting food in our kitchen facilities at this time.

Christy Jean Cunningham Martin

Christy Jean Cunningham Martin age 36 passed away at her residence in Smithville on March 24, 2021. She was born November 7, 1984 to her parents, Troy Allen Lee Cunningham and Pamela Jean Barrett. She worked as an telemarketer and a waitress. She is survived by her children, Isaac Martin of Smithville, Allie Evans of Murfreesboro and Zaylyn Anderson of Smithville; companion, Steven Anderson of Smithville; father, Troy (Sandra) Cunningham of Union City; mother, Pamela Barrett of Smithville; brother, Troy Cunningham, Jr. of Smithville; sister, Amber Cunningham of Dresden, TN. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, March 29, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Davey Horton officiating. Visitation will be Monday 11:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. The family asked that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Christy. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The pews in the chapel are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 people for the service. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and NO food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Billy Joe Hill

March 24, 2021

Billy Joe Hill age 83 passed away March 23, 2021 at St. Thomas Highland in Sparta. He was born February 21, 1938 to his parents the late John Jefferson and Jessie Ervin Hill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Dee Hill; son, Jeff Hill; sister, Betty Sue Gora; brother, Clarence Ervin. He was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and worked in factories. He is survived by daughter, Tammy Hill of Sparta; special daughter, Misty Wilson of Sparta; grandchildren, C. J. Hill, Jarrett Hill, Maggie Hill, Emma Hill; sister, Bobbye Ruth Pack of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews also survive. Graveside services will be 1 PM Friday March 26, 2021 at Mt. Holly Cemetery with Bro. Bill Robertson officiating and burial to follow. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery, there will be not be any visitation or services held at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Clinton Elias Gottlied

Clinton Elias Gottlied, the 4 month old son of Christian & Summer Gottlied of Sparta, TN, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN.

He is preceded in death by a cousin, Everleigh Vincent. Grandmother, Jerri Spivey. Great Grandmother, Linda Spivey & Great Grandfather, Jerome Teachout.

In addition to his parents, Clinton is survived by a Brother, Johnathin Gottlied of Sparta, TN. Grandparents, John Gottlied III of Sparta, TN, Tierra Yho of Sparta, TN and Clinton Spivey of Coalmont, TN. Great Grandparents, Brenda Teachout of New York, Mary Gottlied and John Gottlied II both of Sparta, TN. Aunts and Uncles, Cierra Cawthorne, Catherine Gottlied, James Gottlied, Clarissa Claiborne, Ray (Brittany) Vincent, Amanda (Drake Clouse) Vincent, Seth (Kayla) Vincent and Kaitlyn Spivey.

Memorial Services for Clinton will be held at a later time.

Ronnie Cook

March 23, 2021

Mr. Ronnie Cook, age 72 of Smithville, TN passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.

Ronnie was born on February 17, 1949 in Lebanon, TN to his parents, the late Roy & Hazel Barrett Cook. Also preceding him in death is a Grandchild, Jay Cook & a Brother, Puggy Cook. He was retired from the Construction Industry & was a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 3:30pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Carpenter will officiate and burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4-8pm & Friday from 11am until the service time at 3:30pm. We are not accepting food in our kitchen facility at this time.

Survivors include his Wife, Sue Mullins Cook of Smithville, TN. 3 Daughters, Rhonda (Chris) Tuttle, Ashley Cook & Angel Cook all of Nashville, TN. Son, Kevin Cook of Nashville, TN. Step Children, Desiree Neal & Christopher McPherson both of Smithville, TN. Grandchildren, Shon Cook, Devonte Sharp, Jailey Sharp, Alexus Sharp, Aaron & Abby Cook, Kevon McCloud, Mariah Woodroof, Tyson Tucker, Darian Ferrell, Dylan Roller, Caden McPherson, Tyler Lambardi & Skyler McPherson. A host of Great Grandchildren. 3 Sisters, Dorothy George of Alexandria, TN, Pam Young & Lisa Rhody both of Smithville, TN. Brother, Joe (Brenda) Cook of Watertown, TN. Virginia Laverne Cunningham

Mrs. Virginia Laverne Cunningham, age 67 of the Johnson Chapel Community of DeKalb County passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Virginia was born on July 25, 1953 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Bill & Nancy Gracy Luna. Also preceding her in death is her husband, Jimmy Bruce Cunningham & 2 Brothers, Harold Luna & Gene Luna. She was a Homemaker & was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1pm from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro Elmore Judd & John Cunningham will officiate with burial to follow at Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 4-8pm & Friday from 10am until the service time at 1pm. We are not accepting food in our kitchen at this time.

Survivors include a Daughter- Renee Cunningham of Sparta, TN. 3 Sons- Bruce & Sherril Cunningham of Smithville, TN, Gene Cunningham & John & Rebecca Cunningham all of Sparta. 7 Grandchildren- Gene Cunningham, Traci & Ben Gard, Josh & Amanda Cunningham, Rachel & Matt Buchanan, Kevin & Dashia Cunningham, Chelsie & Kenneth Colwell & Megan Cunningham. 14 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Brother- Bill & Ruby Luna of Tullahoma, TN & a Sister- Christine Hopkins of Winchester, TN.
