Hooper Judkins

A beautiful soul has arrived at his Heavenly home. Ivan Hooper Judkins age 76 of Smithville passed away peacefully at Alive Hospice on February 14, 2023. He was born February 4, 1947, to the late Walter and Reba Judkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life Linda Gail Redman Judkins, mother and father-in-law Charles and Ina Mae Redman, grandparents Roscoe and Amanda Judkins and Shelton and Clara Carter, brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Patricia Redman.

Hooper was a member and song leader of Bright Hill Church. He was a kind and gentle man; he was selfless and giving and a true Christian. He lived most of his life caring and doing for others. He was especially good to his family, and he was loved dearly by them. He enjoyed riding horses and being Santa at various churches.

Hooper is survived by son and daughter in law Greg and Melanie Judkins of Smithville, Grandchildren Amber (Tyler) Pyles of Dowelltown and Ethan Judkins of Smithville, brother Jimmy (Donna) Judkins of Lancaster, Nephew Benny (Suzanne) Judkins of Cross Plains , nieces Valerie Judkins of Lancaster, Angelia (Kevin ) Harvey of Alexandria and Ashley (Michael) Lich of Old Hickory, great nieces Ava Lich and Kailey Harvey and great nephews Blaine, Peyton, and Brennan Judkins, Gavin Lich and Wyatt Harvey. Special cousin Elizabeth Johnson and special friend Linda Sutton.

Funeral Services will be at 2 pm Friday February 17, 2023, at Dekalb Funeral Chapel with Bro David Lunsford officiating and burial will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4 pm until 8 pm and Friday 12 am until time of service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Bright Hill Church or the charity of your choice. Dekalb Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.




Bettty Sue Joyce

February 14, 2023

Bettty Sue Joyce, age 86, of Smithville passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Webb House in Smithville. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Messick and Ophia Judkins Messick; husband, Ira Gene Joyce; daughter, Debra Jean Joyce Popham; half-sister, Mary Schwartz; half-brother, W.C. Messick.

She is survived by daughter, Rosemary Joyce Melton of Smithville; son, William (Candy) Joyce of Murfreesboro; 4 grandchildren, Stephanee Wright (Sean) Tramel, Preston Melton, Abby Popham (Matt) Houge, Nick Popham; 1 step-grandson, Bob Roberts; 6 great-grandchildren, Aubree Tramel, Gunner Tramel, Haylee Killian, Baylee Killian, Wesley Houge, Andrew Houge; sister, Nettie Messick Hayes of Mt. Juliet.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at 2:00pm at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with visitation with the family on Wednesday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home from 11am-1pm.

Chris a.k.a. “Smiley” Bates

Chris a.k.a. “Smiley” Bates age 53 passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at his residence in Smithville. He was born December 8,1970 to his parents, Harlon Bates and Mary Carolyn Page Miller. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jason Allen Bates. Mr. Bates was a Baptist and previously worked at Oster before he became disabled. He is survived by son: Charles O’Brian (Samantha) Bates of Olive Branch, MS; grandson: Kayden Bates; mother: Mary Miller of Sparta; father: Harlon Bates of Smithville; sister: Carol Morse of Sparta; brother: Jeffery Lee Bates of Smithville. Graveside services and interment will be 2:PM Sunday February 12, 2023 at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Sam Allen officiating. There will not be any services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




William Wayne Graham

William Wayne Graham age 42 of Smithville, passed away Thursday February 9, 2023, at his residence. He was born March 16, 1980, to his parents, Eddie Graham and Candy Knowles Gregory. Wayne was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, W.W. Knowles, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Wayne Graham and Jewel Knowles; aunt, Melody Knowles and uncle, Jerry Graham. Wayne was the owner of Rock Crystals Wholesale. He was known for his contiguous laugh and a smile that you can never forget. His heart was bigger than he was. He would always seem to surprise you at the least expected time. To know Wayne was to love him. His children meant the world to him, and the love for his family is beyond measure. His precious dog Doc was his best friend. He is survived by 3 children, William Hunter Graham, Jackson Wayne Graham of Snyder, Texas and Kimberly Promise Graham of Quebec; mother and stepfather, Candy Knowles Gregory and Bob Gregory of Smithville; father, Eddie Graham of Centertown; sister, Natalie (Tyler) Fulton of Dowelltown; maternal grandmother, Reba Jo “Beckie” Knowles of Knoxville; niece and nephews, Alexis, Mike and Hadley Fulton; aunts, Sherron Knowles of Knoxville, Dr. Jennifer S. Knowles of Redlands, CA and Dawn Hunter of Dixon Springs, TN. Funeral Services will be 1 PM Wednesday February 15, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the City of Smithville Green Brook Park, in memory of Wayne. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Whitney Goldie Martin

February 4, 2023

Ms. Whitney Goldie Martin, known as Cindy, age 33 departed from this life on Thursday February 2, 2023 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. She was born on February 25, 1989 to her parents; her father, the late Carl E. Martin and her mother who survives her, Vera Darvin of Manchester, TN.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 @ 1pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with interment to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the Martin family will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 5pm until 8pm and on Tuesday from noon until the service time at 1pm.

She leaves to cherish in her memory her mother, Vera Darvin (Charles) of Manchester; 2 brothers, Jeremiah Daniel Martin of Tullahoma and Malachi Christian Martin of Winchester; 1 sister, Chantal Faith Martin of Gainsboro; a devoted great aunt, Mary P. McCoy of Smithville; 2 aunts, Shirley (Ronnie) Reedy of Smithville, and Tina (Jonathon) Young of Manchester; 1 great uncle, Carl (Shirley) Norman of California; 2 great aunts, Zada “May” Norman of Manchester, and Peggy (James Calvin) Owens of Smithville; 3 nieces, Kiara Ruby Martin, Krislyn Rena Reedy, and Jazzaline S. Sullivan; a special friend, Bro. James D. Hayes; a special caregiver, Jamie Dowell; and a host of cousins and friends also survive.

Derwin Mac Adcock

On February 1, 2023, Derwin Mac Adcock, age 59, seen Jesus and is now kicking up gold dust with loved ones in Heaven. He was born December 8, 1963, to his parents the late Franklin and Fay McCormick Adcock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Ricky Adcock; sister-in-law, Wilma Adcock; nephews, Chris and Bryan Adcock. He served 33 years in law enforcement and retired from McMinnville Police Department in December 2018. He was a member at Smithville First Freewill Baptist Chruch and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife, Beth Adcock; sister-in-law, Veronica (Jeff) Baker; honorary daughters, Kali Page (Jacob Williams) and Kara (Luke) Hillis; honorary grandchildren, Haven and Hyatt Smithson and Dayton Hillis; special friend, Dave Brown; many cousins, aunts and uncles also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Smithville First Freewill Baptist Chruch with Bro. Andy Patterson officiating and burial to follow in Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1PM until 7PM and Sunday 10:AM until 12:30 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel . The family will receive friends at Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church Sunday 1PM until the time of the service at 2PM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Derwin. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
