DeKalb Fishing Team Wins State Open at Dale Hollow Lake
The DeKalb Fishing Team won the State open September 28 at Dale Hollow Lake with 14.63 pounds and captured the Big Fish on the High School side with 4.79 pounds.

Tigers Tame Lions 41-10 in Homecoming Game
The DeKalb County High School Tigers celebrated the last night of Spirit week Friday with a 41-10 homecoming victory over their border rivals from Cannon County.
The Tigers struck with 4:53 left in the 1st period on a 4 yard touchdown run by Colby Barnes. Alan Munoz converted the PAT and DeKalb County led 7-0.
Dylan Denson capped a 57 yard scoring drive on a 1 yard touchdown run with 9:19 left in the 2nd period. Munoz added the extra point and the Tigers led 14-0.
Quarterback Axel Aldino scored on an 8 yard keeper with 6:20 left in the 2nd period. Munoz booted the extra point and DeKalb County ‘s lead was 21-0.
Aldino found Munoz on a 10 yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds left before the half. The PAT try by Munoz was no good but the Tigers held a 27-0 lead by halftime.
The Tigers scored on the opening kick of the third period on an 87 yard return by Desmond Nokes. Aldino scored on the 2 point conversion run and DeKalb County led 35-0.
Colby Barnes scored his second touchdown of the game on a 15 yard run with 1:20 left in the 3rd period. The PAT attempt by Munoz was no good but DeKalb County led 41-0.
Cannon County got on the board with 10:40 left in the 4th period on a 58 yard touchdown pass play from Jamal Barrett to Brady Cunningham. The 2 point conversion pass from Barrett to Lavell Rogers was good and the Lions trailed 41-8.
The Lions got a safety as a high snap sailed over Tiger quarterback Kolter Kilgore’s head into the DC endzone with 5:10 left in the game. DeKalb County went on to win 41-10.
DeKalb County improves to 3-3 (1-0) on the season while Cannon County drops to 2-4. The Tigers will visit Livingston Academy in a region showdown next Friday night, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage. The Wildcats are 6-0 (2-0).
Third Straight Win for DMS Girls Cross Country! Boys take home 2nd place!
DeKalb hosted its annual cross country invitational on Sept 21st, 2019 at DeKalb Co. High School.
High schools and middle schools from surrounding counties came to race the 2 and 3.1 mile courses.
The DMS girls captured another victory as they placed 1st out of 4 teams. 6 of their runners placed in the top 15. Out of a field of 44 runners, Ella Van Vranken was the overall winner of the girls race with a time of 12:26.

The DMS boys placed 2nd as a team, with Kaleb Spears as the overall champion with a time of 12:24! Out of a field of 40 runners the DeKalb boys had 5 of their runners in the top 15!

Tigers Swat Yellow Jackets 49-12
Freshman running back Colby Barnes scored three touchdowns in his high school debut and quarterback Axel Aldino threw for three TD’s in DeKalb County’s 49-12 swatting of the Grundy County Yellow Jackets in Smithville Friday night.
DC’s Nathaniel Crook also scored a touchdown while Desmond Nokes snagged two touchdown passes and Alan Munoz caught one TD pass for the Tigers.
With the win DeKalb County improves to 2-3 on the season while Grundy County falls to 0-4.
The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard first completing a 36 yard drive on a Koby Michael 3 yard touchdown run. The Tigers thwarted a 2 point conversion try but Grundy County led 6-0 with 4:46 left in the 1st period.
DC answered on a 62 yard drive with freshman Colby Barnes scoring his first high school touchdown on a 7 yard run with 2:01 left in the 1st period. Alan Munoz tacked on the extra point and the Tigers took the lead 7-6.
DeKalb County extended its lead with 8:53 left in the 2nd period on an 8 yard touchdown run by Nathaniel Crook. The PAT by Munoz put the Tigers out front 14-6.
Barnes scored his second touchdown of the game on a 42 yard scamper with 2:12 left in the half. Munoz split the uprights for the extra point and the Tigers owned a 21-6 lead.
DeKalb County went to the air for the next score as quarterback Axel Aldino found Alan Munoz on an 11 yard touchdown strike. Munoz added the extra point and DeKalb County led 28-6 by halftime.
Grundy County cut into the Tiger lead on a 16 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Dixon to Evan Nunley completing a 74 yard drive. The try for the extra point was no good but the DC lead was trimmed to 28-12 with 2:15 left in the 3rd period.
DeKalb County struck back on a 61 yard touchdown pass play from Aldino to Desmond Nokes. Munoz converted the PAT and the Tigers led 35 to 12 with 1:05 left in the 3rd period.
Colby Barnes got this third touchdown of the game on a 5 yard run with 7:27 to go in the 4th period. The PAT by Munoz was good and DeKalb County held a 42-12 advantage.
The final score of the night came on a 16 yard touchdown pass from Aldino to Nokes with 6:15 left in the game set up after an interception by Tiger Isaac Knowles. Munoz added the extra point and the Tigers went on to win 49-12.
DeKalb County will host Cannon County next Friday night, September 27 for homecoming. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
Lady Saints Soccer Team Makes History
The DeKalb Middle School Soccer Team made history Monday night with a first time program win over Cumberland County by a score of 1-0. Caroline Tobitt scored the only goal of the game and the Lady Saints’ hard working defense protected the lead.
The Lady Saints have secured a spot in the post season and will play next week-day and time to be determined. The Lady Saints finish out regular season play this Wednesday against Prescott at home. Kickoff begins at 5:15 p.m.
