Tigers Eliminated from District Tournament

The DeKalb County Tigers battled the Upperman Bees in a close game Wednesday night but lost 62 to 58 in the District 8AA basketball tournament bringing an end their season.

The Tigers led 10 to 8 after the 1st period and 27 to 26 at halftime but fell behind 41 to 40 at the end of the 3rd period and lost 62 to 58.

Tanner Poss scored 19, Hayden Thomas 15, Colter Norris 11, Dallas Cook 9, and Nathan Atkins with 4.

DeKalb County finishes the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 6-23

Upperman, the 3rd seed, will face York Institute, seeded 2nd,  in the semi-finals on Friday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m. while Watertown, seeded 4th, will meet Livingston Academy, the top seed in the tournament in the other semi-finals game Friday, February 15 at 8:30 p.m. at Tennessee Tech’s Hooper Eblen Center




DCHS Lady Tigers Advance to District Tournament Semi-Finals

The DCHS Lady Tigers have advanced to the semi-finals of the District 8AA basketball tournament after defeating Smith County 52 to 26 Wednesday night in Cookeville.

The Lady Tigers, seeded 3rd in the tournament, will face Upperman, seeded 2nd on Friday, February 15 at 4 p.m. at Tennessee Tech’s Hooper Eblen Center. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.  Win or lose, the Lady Tigers are guaranteed a berth in the Region Tournament next week.

In the game Wednesday night, the Lady Tigers led 11 to 7 after the 1st period, 18 to 13 at halftime, and 34 to 21 after the 3rd period before going on to win 52 to 26.

Kadee Ferrell scored 17, Emme Colwell 11, Mya Ruch 10, Maddison Parsley and Mallori Hart each with 5 and Lydia Brown with 4.

The Lady Tigers have lost to Upperman twice this season. In the first meeting, DC was beaten 46 to 29 on January 8 in Smithville and 62 to 40 on February 1 at Baxter.

In the other semi-final game Friday, February 15 at 7 p.m. York Institute, seeded 4th, will meet Macon County, the top seed in the tournament at Tennessee Tech.




Tigers Tame Lions to Advance in District Tournament

The DCHS Tigers advance in the District Tournament after eliminating the Cannon County Lions 57 to 40 Tuesday night at Tennessee Tech.

The Tigers will meet the 3rd seeded Upperman Bees Wednesday night, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Cookeville High School. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

After trailing the Lions 6 to 5 at the end of the 1st period, the Tigers grabbed a 23 to 17 halftime lead and held a 37 to 28 advantage after the 3rd period before going onto win 57 to 40.

Colter Norris scored 14, Dallas Cook 11, Nathan Atkins and Tanner Poss each with 9, Hayden Thomas 8, Dakota White 5, and Evan Jones with 1.

Meanwhile the DCHS Lady Tigers will play their first game in the tournament Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. against the 7th seeded Smith County Owlettes at Cookeville High School. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

Danny Fish Awarded District Coach of Year

DeKalb County High School Lady Tiger Basketball Coach Danny Fish has been named the District 8AA Coach of the Year.

The announcement came Friday morning during the All-District selections for the year which includes four Lady Tigers and three Tigers. Kadee Ferrell and Lydia Brown were named to the 2nd Team All-District. Ferrell was also named to the All-Freshmen Team. Emme Colwell made the 3rd Team All-District and Mya Ruch was named to the All-Defensive Team. For the boys Nathan Atkins was named to the 3rd Team All-District and Dallas Cook and Tanner Poss received Honorable Mention. Cook was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Coach Fish has guided the Lady Tigers this season to an overall 19-8 record and a 10-4 mark in the district finishing in third place.

The Lady Tigers will make their debut in the District Tournament Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. at Cookeville High School. Their opponent will be either Watertown or Smith County.

The Tigers will face Cannon County on Tuesday night, February 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Tennessee Tech’s Hooper Eblen Center. The Tigers are seeded 7th and Cannon County 6th.

WJLE will have LIVE coverage of all Tiger and Lady Tiger games in the Tournament.

Seniors Recognized during DCHS Season Finale (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

The DCHS basketball teams closed out the regular season at home Friday night hosting Monterey on senior night.

The Lady Tigers won 92 to 50 but the Tigers lost to the Wildcats 57 to 41.

Seniors and their parents recognized between games Friday night (shown in video below) are cheerleaders Zoe Maynard and Callie Mulloy; bookkeeper Madi Cantrell; manager Madison Whitehead; Lady Tigers Lydia Brown, Maddison Parsley, and Joni Robinson; and Tigers Nathan Atkins, Josh Carlton, Brayden Howard, Noah Martin, Colter Norris, Tanner Poss, Hayden Thomas, and Isaac Walker.

In the girls game, DC led 14 to 12 after the 1st period, 45 to 23 at halftime, and 63 to 40 after the 3rd period before winning 92 to 50.

Kadee Ferrell scored 25, Lydia Brown and Joni Robinson each with 17, Megan Cantrell 9, Emme Colwell and Mya Ruch each with 6, Mallori Hart and Ellie Cripps each with 3, and Maddison Parsley , Summer Crook, and Leah Davis each with 2.

For the boys, DC trailed 17 to 7 after the 1st period, 32 to 18 at halftime, and 45 to 27 after the 3rd period before losing to Monterey 57 to 41.

Tanner Poss scored 12, Colter Norris and Nathan Atkins each scored 6, Hayden Thomas and Evan Jones each with 4, Noah Martin, Dallas Cook, Dakota White, and Brayden Howard each with 2, and Issac Walker with 1.

The Lady Tigers end the regular season at 19-8 and the Tigers finish at 5-22.

The district tournament begins next week.
