Tiger Football MVP Award Goes to Grayson Redmon, Haley Chapman Named MVC
Grayson Redmon, a senior wide receiver and cornerback, was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 DCHS Tiger Football Team during the annual Awards Banquet held Saturday night at the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center building.
The MVP trophy was presented to Redmon by Coach Steve Trapp.
“With an injury he had last year as a junior, I expected he would not be able to come back and play but leaving the field that night in Marshall County (state playoffs in 2017) he told me he would be back and ready to go the next year (2018). Kudos to him for that because when you are dealing with a neck injury like that in football its scary. I thank his parents for supporting him in that decision. I’m sure that was tough. It was tough for us as coaches sometimes watching him out there. We had to try and take care of him. But it was about him going out there and doing his job and doing what this team needed him to do. He didn’t start off the year very well on the offensive side of the ball but I think he had six or seven games in a row where he had over 100 yards receiving. He ended up leading our team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He started on the defensive side of the ball and has been on the field ever since he was a freshman so there is no better candidate this year for MVP,” said Coach Trapp.
In addition to his MVP trophy, Redmon was named to the All Region 3 Class 4A 1st team.
The Tiger football team finished the season in November with an overall record of 3-8 and another appearance in the state playoffs, the 14th in school history. The Tigers lost 56-7 in the first round of the playoffs to the Maplewood High School Panthers in Nashville on November 2.
Meanwhile, Haley Chapman, a senior, was named Most Valuable Cheerleader at the football banquet Saturday night. The presentation was made by Cheer Coach Amanda Fuller.
“To say this girl is great would be an understatement. I think she is amazing not only as a cheerleader but as a person. She is one of the hardest working people I have every known whether its cheerleading or in the classroom. She pushes others to be better but not harder than she pushes herself. People say they won’t remember what you say but they will remember how you made them feel. I will remember that this girl has a smile that lights up the room. She makes others feel good about themselves by being genuinely kind. She builds up her team members and leads by example. We have only had her for two years but she has definitely been very valuable to this team,” said Coach Fuller.
