Frances Caplinger age 88, passed away Thursday September 12, 2019 at her residence in Smithville. She was born October 30, 1930 to her parents the late Orvin and Bessie Lee Colvert Pack. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Caplinger; brother, Joe Pack; nephew, Johnny Pack. Ms. Caplinger was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and she was co-owner and manager of Burger Shake Restaurant. She is survived by her children, Sue Hughes of Smithville, and Gary Caplinger of Smithville; grandchildren, Ryan Hughes, and Westin Caplinger; 2 great-grandchildren, Brady Hughes, McKenna Hughes; brother-in-law Doston and Ruth Caplinger; caregiver and good friend, Kathy Vanatta. Funeral services will be Sunday September 15, 2019 at 2:PM with Bro. Gary Caplinger and Randy Vaughn officiating with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Saturday September 14, 2019 at 2:PM  until 8:PM and on Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. In addition  to flowers donations  may be made to The American Cancer Soceity or Lighthouse or Avalon Hospice. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements..

J. R. Redmon age 82 passed away Thursday September 12, 2019 at N.H.C. in Smithville, TN. Mr. Redmon was born October 22, 1936 to his parents the late Joe and Stella Moore Redmon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by step-father, George Clark; siblings, David Redmon, Virginia Herron, Ida Mai Benoit, and Judy Minnear; nephews, Russell Herron, and David Ray Redmon; special family, Karen Blair Jacobs. He attended the Smithville Church of Christ and was retired from Textron. Mr. Redmon also served in the United States Navy and Air Force. He is survived by his children, Angelia (Dennis) Trapp of Smithville and Richard ( Tanya) Redmon of Newport, NC.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jenny) Trapp, Joseph Trapp, Josh Redmon, Amy Redmon, Jessica Redmon; bonus grandchildren, Justin (Macy) Nokes, Kathryn Blair, Caitlin Jacobs, Anna Rachel Blair, William Blair;  great-grandchildren , Hannah Trapp, Leah Trapp, James Banks, Tristan Wilson, and Carlee Wilson; special friend, Betty Hollis Blair; special family, Keith (Amanda) Blair of Smithville,and Shawn Jacobs of Smithville; former wife the mother of his children, Dixie Redmon Greer;   several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Monday, September 16, 2019 at 1:PM with Darrel Gill and Richard Redmon officiating and burial will follow in Riverside Gardens Cemetery in Woodbury, TN. Visitation will be Sunday 4:PM until 8:PM and on Monday 10:AM until the service at 1:PM. In addition to flowers donations may be made to the Charity of your choice. Barry Jackson Hayes age 74 of Lancaster passed away Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.  He was born December 6, 1944 to his parents, the late Auval Jackson and Helen Rose Jennings Hayes, Jr.  He was a Shriner for 50 years, Master Mason of the Center Hill Lodge #77 and worked in construction.  Survivors include 2 sons, Ashley (Amy) Hayes of Smithville and Chad Hayes of Lebanon; Sister, Karen Hayes of Murfreesboro; Nieces, Brittany Hackney and Rose Reynolds; Great-niece, Avelynn Hackney.  A Masonic service will be held Saturday September 14, 2019 at 1:PM and a  memorial service will follow at  2:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be 12:PM until time of service at 2:PM. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby (Bob) Lee Spann, Sr., was born March 21, 1938, to O. B. and Virgie Gillon Spann. He graduated Friendship High School in 1957 and Freed-Hardeman College (FHC) in 1959. He was married to Betty Ann Tritt Spann in a sunrise wedding, Monday, June 8, 1959, at the Crossroads church of Christ. They celebrated 60 years together on June 8, 2019.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Wayne Spann (Vicki). Survived by wife, Ann, and sons David Wayne Spann (Colleen), Bobby Lee Spann, Jr. (Jean-Marie), and Daniel Jerome Spann (Amy), granddaughter Lauren Hailey Spann, grandsons Lee Lawson Spann and Brady Lawson Spann, and many nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1961. He and Ann then moved to Murfreesboro where he preached for Sharpsville church of Christ and taught school in Smyrna. While a student at FHC, Bob preached at Crossroads, Kenton, and Gadsden. Other churches where he served as minister include: Rockwood, Brownsville, Smithville, Brentwood Hills and Shelby Ave. in Nashville, Jones Chapel in Williamson County, and lastly his home church at Chestnut Bluff.

Bob obtained a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee and an Education Specialist degree from Tennessee Tech. Bob served the education community in many areas by teaching Special Education at Smyrna, serving as Headmaster of Tennessee Academy in Brownsville and Center Hill Academy in Smithville, and Assistant Principal for David Lipscomb High School. Bob also served as Principal for the school at Spring Hill Children’s Home, Tennessee Preparatory School and the school at Lois DeBerry Special Needs Facility at Riverbend in Nashville.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, TN and at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, TN with burial to follow at Friendship City Cemetery in Friendship, TN.

Visitation will also be conducted from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Hillsboro church of Christ in Nashville.

Brother Larry Harper, minister at Cairo church of Christ, will give the eulogy. Pallbearers include: Harvey and Tim Gillon, Dennis and Perry Jenkins, Carl and Hugh Allen Ellington. Honorary pallbearers include: Lauren Hailey Spann, Lee Lawson Spann, Brady Lawson Spann, Diana Lee Spann and other nieces and nephews.

Jimmy (Jim) Mullinax was born June 20, 1935 in DeKalb County, Tn., and went home September 12, 2019 at his residence. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he was a Mail Carrier for many years, a member of New Hope Baptist Church, a lifelong member of the Alexandria Lion’s Club, an Army Veteran, and a collector of anything antique.

In his 84 years he taught us many lessons like; If you can’t say it to their face don’t say it at all. How to dig worms, or fish with your hands. One flashlight with batteries is all you need. Don’t drink, smoke, or cuss in front of ladies. You can always change your mind. How to shoot a gun, fill a sinkhole, plant a garden, get a tractor out of a pond, and you can go ANYWHERE in a 4 wheel drive. How to toolbox surf, always take care of widows, kids, and animals. Life ain’t fair.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; Drury Malburn and Pauline Adamson Mullinax, a brother; Harry, and one daughter, Suzane.

He leaves behind a smiling, but sad family that includes his wife of 62 years; Daris Mullinax, three daughters; Ria (Ricky) Baker, Beki (John Scott) Morgan, Stacey (Dewayne) Martin. Grandchildren; Tori Baker, Derrick (Stacey) Baker, Zach Martin, Ethan Martin, Great Grandchildren; Jonathan and Sadie. Brother; Kenneth (Carolyn) Mullinax, and Sister; Joyce Davis. Sister-in-law; Joyce Hibdon Mullinax. Special Friends; Peggy Bogle, and Gary Anderson. We will miss you Jim!

Funeral will be Saturday, September 14, 2PM at the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home, with internment to follow in Salem Cemetery with Bro. Ronnie Smith officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 4 till 8pm on Friday September 13, and 10am till service time on Saturday September 14. The Family has requested that donations be made to Salem Cemetery in Jim’s Memory. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harry Lee Williams, of Knoxville, passed away at age 74, September 10, 2019 in the room he built with the morning sun shining on his face surrounded by Love from his wife of 51 years, Sherry Williams and children.

Harry was born August 31, 1945 in Oak Ridge. He was a member of Ball Camp Baptist Church. Harry graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1964. He proudly served in the Air Force, TN Air National Guard, TN Army National Guard, and TN State Guard. Harry graduated from Tusculum College. He retired from Y-12 after 33 years of service.

He will be remembered for his giving, curious, and irascible spirit. He was happiest surrounded by family partaking in lively discussions and children running through the house.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilma & Robert Williams; brother & sister-in-Law, Robert & Annette Williams; sister, Wanda Williams Highnote; brother-in-Law, Jimmy Redmon;father-in-law and mother-in-Law, Jim Roy & Audrey Frazier.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jonathan (Antoinette) Williams; Jennifer (Jim) Goodpasture and Jessica Tucker; grandchildren, Jasmine Thibou; Madison Goodpasture, Makenzie Goodpasture; James Fusaro; Elijah Williams; Griffin Tucker; Autumn Tucker; great grandchildren, Emma Lewis, and Alice Seals; brother, Richard (Suzanne) Williams; sister, Pamela Redmon; and many nieces and nephews who he deeply cherished.

The receiving of friends will be held at Ball Camp Baptist Church, on Thursday, September 12, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 7 p.m.

Family and friends will gather at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 13 for graveside services at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens with full military honors conferred by the U.S. Air Force and the East Tennessee Veteran’s Honor Guard.
