Jerry L. “Buckwheat’ Johnson

Jerry L. “Buckwheat’ Johnson age 70 of Smithville, passed away Thursday June 27, 2019 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. He was born March 18, 1949 to his parents, the late Wilson B. and Emma Lee Taylor Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Hobbs; grandson, Caylix Johnson; brother, Ray Johnson and sister, Dorothy Haggard. He owned and operated Model City Auto Sales and was in the trucking business. Buckwheat is survived by 1 son, Chad Johnson of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Bentley Hobbs, Brantley Johnson, Carmen Johnson, Aspen Johnson, Emma Johnson, Makira Johnson and Kelvin Reagan; son-in-law, Josh Hobbs; 2 sisters, Kathleen Mahler and Era Billings both of Sparta; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Johnson of Smithville. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Sunday, June 30, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 2 PM until 8 PM and Sunday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Jesus Antonio Rosas

June 28, 2019

Jesus Antonio Rosas age 22 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday evening, June 25, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER.  He was born August 30, 1996 in Deland, FL.  He was a Catholic and construction worker.  He is survived by his mother, Juana Zapien of Smithville;  2 sisters, Christian Rosas of Gallatin and Valeria Zapien of Smithville; 1 brother, Angel Zapien; 1 nephew, Diego Bravo of Gallatin; several aunts, uncles and cousins.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 PM Friday, June 28, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Father Chris James officiating and burial will take place at 5 p.m. Friday evening at DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 11:AM until 2:30 p.m., and after the service until 5 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  



Nonnie Bell Johnson

Nonnie Bell Johnson age 96 of Liberty went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning June 24, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville.  She was born March 2, 1923 to her parents, the late Robert Vernon “Bob” and Willie Mammie Adamson Mathis.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Johnson; son, Billy Johnson; 2 grandsons, Tony Johnson and Bryan Johnson; brothers, J.C. Mathis and Carl Mathis.  Nonnie Bell was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church and a caregiver.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 son, Wallace (Joyce) Johnson of Liberty; daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson of Liberty; 7 grandchildren, Teresa (Larry) Caldwell, David (Emily) Johnson, Rhonda (Charles) Caplinger, Sissy (Craig) Cooper, Trena (Tony) Collins, Travis (Brandi) Johnson, Mandi Parker and Kim Carr; 3 step-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild; 19 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be 11:AM Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Liberty.  Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

 




Connie Sue Silcox

Mrs. Connie Sue Silcox, age 70, of Alexandria, TN, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Mrs. Silcox was born February 26, 1949 in Baxter, TN, a daughter of the late Joe Baker Farmer and Lela Pauline Williams. She was also preceded in death by Father of her Children; Ray Gentry on November 18, 2015, Son; Charlie Joe Gentry, Siblings; Thurman Farmer, Joe Douglas Farmer, L.B. Watts, Doyle Watts, Charlene Phillips, Donna Williams, and Hazel Severeid.

Mrs. Silcox married Thomas Silcox on October 6, 2008. She was a member of the Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Silcox is survived by Husband; Thomas Silcox of Alexandria, TN. Children; Danyella (Matt) Apple of Lebanon, TN, and Rick (Christy) Gentry of Pleasant View, TN. Siblings; Peg Megrant of Romeoville, IL, Clara (George) Sayers of Polomona, KS, Gerald (Marla) Farmer of Orland Park, IL, Kenneth (Nancy) Farmer of Clarksville, TN, and Jimmy Farmer, of Franklin, KY. Grandchildren; Logan Apple, Abbey Apple, Zachary (Shawna) Gentry, Regan (Micheal Loosli) Gentry. Special Friend; Faye Neville. Two fur babies; Elvira and Jake.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Silcox are scheduled to be conducted from the Avant Funeral Home on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 2PM.. Interment will follow in the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the Family will be at Avant Funeral Home on Saturday from 2PM until 8PM and on Sunday after 12PM until service time at 2PM.




Jennie Jo Young

80 year old Jennie Jo Young of Woodbury passed away Sunday at NHC Smithville. She was a retired DeKalb County Board of Education employee and a member of the Old Short Mountain Methodist Church at Half Acre. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donnie Kelly, Iain Swisher, and Dr. Jimmy Carter will officiate and burial will be in the Gunter Grizzle Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 4 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband Dallas “Red” Young; parents, Wiley D. and Gertrude Blair Campbell; son. Michael Reed Young and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Tramel Young. Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer and Ricky Nixon and Lisa and Timmy Nixon of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Allison and Derek Fann of Woodbury, Jenna and Tim Reynolds of Smithville, Wesley and Mandy Young of Centertown, Lynsey and Nathan Smith of Dunlap and Nathan and Jessica Nixon of Smithville. Six great grandchildren, Dallas Reynolds, Rylee Grace Young, Michael Ray Fann, Levi Nixon, Addlyn (Addi Kate) Nixon, and Maisie Lynne Smith. Brother, Doris and Joann Campbell of Woodbury. Two sisters, Beulah Smith of Centertown and Ina Vaughn of Smithville. Brother-in-law, Nelson and Dean Young of Smithville. Sisters-in-law, Thelma Evans and Ima Nell Vanatta both of Smithville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Old Short Mountain Methodist Church at Half Acre.




Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Napier

Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Napier age 55 of Smithville, passed away Saturday evening, June 22, 2019 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital. He was born November 27, 1963 to his parents, Donna Blades Napier and the late Thurman A. Napier. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 2 nieces, Stacey Powell and Amy Napier Miller. Tommy was a Baptist, U.S. Army Veteran and a factory worker. He is survived by 1 son, Mathew (Christy) Napier of Cookeville; mother, Donna Napier of Smithville; 3 sisters, Carol (A.J.) Bain of Smithville, Jane (Rickey) Mathis of Liberty, Nancy (Demitirus) Vafeas of Sarasota, FL; 1 brother, Gregory Alan Napier of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 3 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM.
