Jo Ann Judd

November 13, 2022

80 year old Jo Ann Judd passed away Friday November 11, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was a retired seamstress and a member of Johnson Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday November 14, 2022 @1pm at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.  Bro. Tim Judd and Bro. Clint Walker will officiate and burial will be in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm until 8pm and on Monday from 11am until the time of services at 1pm.

Mrs. Judd is preceded in death by her parents Enoch and Emma Williams Stover; 3 brothers, Arthur, Sherman, and Milton Stover; 2 Sisters, Alta Cole and June Harron; and a special friend, Brenda Marmon.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Elmore Judd of Sparta; 1 son, Tim (Christy) Judd of Walling; 2 Daughters, Cindy Roberts of Sparta, and Samantha (Ernie) Hargis of Baxter; 7 Grandchildren, Michelle and Clint Walker, Kerrie and Chris Stone, Casey and Raquel McCloud, Sierra Adkins, Chet Hargis, Marie Mosley, Justin & Sara Worrix; 7 Great-Grandchildren, Madilyn Walker, Cameron Walker, Lena Young, Taylan McCloud, Nichole McCloud, Waylan Worrix, and Aria Worrix; 2 brothers, Earl Stover, and Hobert Stover; 4 sisters, Reba Henley, Helen Stover, Nellie Boswell, and Ester Bilyeu; a special friend, Thelma Martin, also survives.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the Johnson Chapel Cemetery fund in memory of Mrs. Judd.

James Pirtle

November 10, 2022

88 year old James Pirtle of Smithville passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at his residence. He was a retired owner and operator of Pirtle’s Nursery, former truck driver, and a Baptist. Mr. Pirtle was a Army Veteran, a Mason (Lodge #77), 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and former ambassador of the Shriner club. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 @ 6pm. A private burial will be held for the family at Banks Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 3pm until 8pm, and on Saturday from 10am until the service time at 6pm. A masonic service will also be held on Saturday at 5pm.

Mr. Pirtle was preceded in death by his parents, James Pirtle and Maggie Keith Braswell, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Caldwell, Joshua Caldwell and Courtney Pirtle, 3 sisters, Donna Sue Lawson, Faye and Jimmy Smith, Sandra and Earl Houk, 2 brothers, Eugene Evans and William Pirtle, 3 sons-in-law, Ronnie Hale, Jim Haley and Michael Caldwell and a special friend, Keith Petriquin.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ruth Houk Pirtle, 1 son, Danny (Melissa) Pirtle, 1 daughter, Judy Hale, 4 grandchildren, Trista (Jake) Bond, Danny (Kayla) Pirtle Jr., Matthew Hale, Amy Hale, Julie (Kenny) Vincent, 4 great-grandchildren, Michael Caldwell, Christopher (Beverly Knauer) Caldwell, Michael Bond and Lettie Bond, bro-in-law, Tony Lawson, special friends, Pete Kasoudji and Carroll Irby. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital in memory of Mr. Pirtle.

Bobbie Don Curtis

November 9, 2022

Bobbie Don Curtis was born December 4, 1938, in Liberty, Tn and departed this life on November 6th, 2022, in Nashville, Tn. She was a beautician and homemaker most of her life. She was raised in Dowelltown, Tn by Grandmother Nellie Williams until marrying Billy Hudson Curtis on June 6, 1954.

She was preceded in death by Father JC Mathis, Mother Sammy Mathis, Grandfather Don Williams, Grandmother Nellie Williams, Grandfather Bob Mathis, Grandmother Willie Mathis, Brother Stevie Mathis, Sons Donald Hudson Curtis and Randall Scott Curtis, Son-in-Law Larry Dale Martin and Brother-in-Law Jimmy Dodd.

She is survived by Husband Billy Hudson Curtis, Son Ronald Jay Curtis, Daughter Connie Ann Martin, Grandchildren Natasha (Franklin) Figgins of Liberty, Tn, Kandy Curtis of Bowling Green Ky, and Kasey (Jeffery) Petrocelli of Bowling Green, Ky. Great Grandchildren Christopher Lance League, Labrice Roheem Figgins, Morgan Gabrielle Clark, Madison Paige Figgins, Caster Ian Scott Curtis, Gloria Katherine Williams, and Gabriel Christopher Dutch. Great Great Grandchildren Cyan Christopher League, Malachi Devon Figgins, Ayla Rosa Figgins, Camille Naomi League, Myracle Jade Clark, Krimson Kye Williams, and Cassidy Naomi Cross. Brothers Dwight (Shirley) Mathis and Gary (Judy)Mathis. Sisters June Dodd and Darlene Mathis and Brother-in-Law Buddy (Leeann) Curtis along with nieces and nephews.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 12:00 till service time at 1:00 p.m. Bro. Wilson Williams officiating.

Monetta Tramel McDowell

November 7, 2022

Monetta Tramel McDowell, age 81, passed away quietly at the Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona in the early morning of September 28, 2022, with her son Christian by her side. She was born in Smithville, TN February 17, 1941 to her parents, the late Alton and Lena Wiley Tramel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alan McDowell and sister, Margaret Tramel. She lived in Smithville until 1961 when she made the brave drive across country to settle in the Los Angeles area. She lived in Glendale, Rocklin and Roseville, CA and in Glendale and Mesa, AZ until the time of her death.

Some of the jobs Monetta held throughout her life were Administrative Assistant, Real Estate Agent, Travel Agent Warner Bros. Records, California Dental Association and owner of a Women’s Clothing Boutique in Auburn, California. This job she loved the most as she traveled the country, visiting shows and looking for unique clothes to buy and sell in her shop. She was Homecoming Queen in 1958, and graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1959 and then attended Middle Tennessee State University. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved gardening, crochet, knitting, photography, reading jewelry making and oil painting and volunteering at her nearby community library when she lived in Roseville, CA.

She is survived by her loving son, Christian Woodhead of Rohnert Park, CA; sisters, Amelia Annette Blair of McKinney, TX, Werdna Carol Moss of Murfreesboro, TN, and Peggy Lou Wilkins of Queens Creek, AZ; brother, Thomas Alton (Linda) Tramel of Montrose, CO; nieces, Lisa Starbird, Salena Lopez (Joel) Tramel, Tracy Simmons, Margaret (Chris) Fecko and Dawn Blair; nephews, John Alton (Christie) Busic, Steve (Kellie) Moss, Greg Moss, Wiley Popovich, Douglas (Lori) Blair; cousins, Paulette McDonald and Tricia Wood.

Funeral services will be held 10:AM Saturday November 12, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Family and Friends will begin gathering at 9:AM for the service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




David Dewayne Summers

Mr. David Dewayne Summers age 63 of Smithville TN died Tuesday, November 01, 2022, at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville, TN, after fighting an extended illness. He was born August 11, 1959, in Little Rock, AR, was a construction contractor, softball umpire, member of the Oasis Church, and was preceded in death by his parents John David and Barbara Jean Fulmer Summers. He loved fishing, hunting, softball, and football.

Survivors include his wife Julie Lynn Summers, son David (Joni) Summers, son Kyle Summers, grandchildren Autumn Summers and Gavin Summers, step-son Christian Loudermilk, sisters Lisa Summers and Susan Summers, and half-brother Rick Summers. Several nieces, nephews, family members, many friends, and his furry companion Max, also survive.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 12, 2022, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Steve Breedlove will officiate. The Summers Family will receive friends that day during the visitation from 12:00 P.M. Noon until service time at 1:00 P.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help cover funeral expenses.

Brian Wayne Bandy

November 4, 2022

Brian Wayne Bandy age 50, passed away November 3, 2022 at his residence in Alexandria. He was born June 1, 1972 to his parents Rebecca Fuson Taylor and the late Jackie Wayne Bandy. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Hebron and Frances Bandy and maternal grandfather, Louis Fuson. Mr. Bandy was a member of Faith Congregational Methodist Church and worked at Federal Mogul. He is survived by mother, Rebecca Fuson Taylor (James) of Liberty; sister Katrina Collier (Andy) of Alexandria; grandmother, Reba Fuson of Liberty; nieces and nephews, Brent (Allison) Collier, Matthew Collier (Ashlyn Neil), Tiffany (Taylor) Wood; great nieces and nephews, Danica Collier, Landon Collier, Makenlee Collier, Liam Collier, Harper Wood; half-sister, Chloe Newby. Funeral services will be held Sunday November 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Danny Bandy and Phillip Bandy officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday November 5, 2022 at 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM and on Sunday 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
