Amy Dawn Keith

Amy Dawn Keith age 51 of Smithville, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, in DeKalb County. She was born October 15, 1970, to her parents, the late Phillip Reed Keith and Brenda Maxine Cope Briggs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hayes; maternal grandparents, Myrtle Cope West and Haskel Cope; paternal grandparents, Claudie and Carnell Keith. Amy worked in healthcare as a nurse assistant and was a Baptist. She is survived by 3 children, Brittney Cantrell and Jayme Linn Hayes both of Smithville and Christian Keith Cantrell of Tullahoma; sister, Gina (Jimmy) Lewis of Smithville; half-sister, Ashley Keith of Gainesboro; stepfather, Larry Briggs of Smithville; stepmother, Evelyn Keith of Gainesboro; nieces, Caitlin Anderson and Chelsie McCroskey. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the Smithville First Assembly of God with Bro. Donnie Kelly officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM at the Smithville First Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Donna “Faye” Green Cantrell

Donna “Faye” Green Cantrell age 83 of Smithville passed away Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2022 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER after spending time with her family at the Green Family Reunion. Faye was born June 16, 1939 to her parents, the late John Dowie and Mettie Emma Neely Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lellon Cantrell; sisters, Elsie Steinbach and Christine Adcock; 2 brothers, Kenneth Green and Thomas Green. She was a faithful member of the Keltonburg Church of Christ. Faye worked at Smithville and Campaign Shirt Factories and then worked at Genesco/Texas Boot, where she retired. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children, Thomas Levoy (Devita) Cantrell of McMinnville, Dianna Cantrell (Harvey) Whitehead of Knoxville and Steven James Cantrell of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Nathan Cantrell of Utah, Mandy Weiler of Knoxville, Justin Cantrell and Leslie Cantrell both of McMinnville; 7 great-grandchildren, Aiden Cantrell, Emery Cantrell, Chase Weiler, Audrey Weiler, Breylee Butcher, Everleigh Butcher and Sawyer King; 4 brothers, James (Ginny) Green of Columbia, John (Judy) Green of Walling, Eddie (Carol) Green of and Jack Green both of Smithville; 2 sisters, Sara Green Adcock of Murfreesboro and Joyce Green (Chester) Carman of Louisville, KY; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, September 8, 2022, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Cloyd officiating and burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM until 7 PM and Thursday 11:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in memory of Ms. Faye. William H. “Red ” Clark

September 4, 2022

William H. “Red ” Clark age 85 of Smithville, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER.  He was born June 11, 1937, in DeKalb County, to his parents, the late James Harvey and Dovie Myrtle Miller Clark.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Herman Clark; 2 children, Alan Clark and Vickey Jordan; 2 grandchildren, Billy Clark and Brian Clark; 3 brothers, Albert Neal, Luther Neal and Tom Neal.  He was a boat mechanic and owned Red & Alan’s Marine for many years.  He is survived by 2 sons, Billy Clark of Sparta and David Clark of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Joseph Clark, Russell Clark, Dakota Clark, Leach Clark, Wesley Jordan and Morgan Clark; 8 great-grandchildren, Colby Clark, Caden Clark, Matthew Florida, Billy Clark, Conner Clark, Lyren Clark, Arya Adcock, Jezzy Adcock; 2 sisters, Mary Certain of Smithville and Eline Pepper of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews also survive.  The family has honored Mr. Red’s request to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Randy Gilley

September 2, 2022

Randy Gilley age 63, of Smithville passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022, at St. Thomas Mid-Town Hospital. He was born June 27, 1959, to his parents the late James Garland and Ethel Mae Hale Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Gilley Young, Mark and Stevie Young. Mr. Gilley was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church and worked at the Rock Crusher in Liberty for 13 years and for DeKalb County Highway Department for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Joannia Thomason of Smithville; stepchildren, Lee Ann Brakeall of Alexandria, Joseph Thomason, Jr. of Smithville, and Dewayne Thomason of McMinnville; granddaughter, Brittany (Cody) Harrell; nieces, Leslie (Charles) Martin of Smithvillle, and Amanda Young of McMinnville; special cousin, Kenneth (Marie) Derting of Liberty. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Salem Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any visitation held. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Janie Elizabeth Watson

September 1, 2022

Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Watson, age 90, of McMinnville, TN, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her residence. She was born October 20, 1931, in Smithville, TN, was a retired employee of U.T. Extension Service, a member of Smithville First United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by parents Bernard “J. B.” and Alta Tramel Summers, husband Ralph Watson, sister Jean Sain Barry, and brothers Ewin, Dean, and Bill Summers. Janie was known for collecting cook books, her love of cooking, and always enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with delicious food.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Darryl (Tracy) Watson, two grandsons John (Erica) Watson and David (Peyton) Watson, and three great-granddaughters Addisyn, Piper, and Devin Watson.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 03, 2022, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Mark Summers will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The Watson Family will receive friends Friday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Frances Louise Wallace

August 29, 2022

Frances Louise Wallace age 97 of Smithville and a formerly of Antioch, passed away Saturday August 27, 2022, at St. Thomas RiverPark Hospital in McMinnville. She was born June 6, 1925, to her parents, the late Thomas Levi and Willie Moore Augusta Boner McClendon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Thomas Wallace, who passed away in May of 2016. Ms. Frances was a went to school in Antioch, was a Baptist and a homemaker. She is survived by her extended family, the residents and staff of the Webb House. Graveside services and interment will be 11:AM Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any services or visitation at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
