Cecil Margaret Thweatt Crosby

A memorial service for Cecil (Cec) Margaret Thweatt Crosby of Henderson, Nevada and formerly of Smithville will be Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at the Whorton Springs Baptist Church. She was a member of the Class of 1961. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margie Caldwell Thweatt and Cecil Thweatt; aunt, Pauline Summers Parsley; daughter, Sandy Jones; and sister, Linda Curtis. She is survived by her son, Tony and Jane Jennings of Watertown and husband Charlie Crosby.




Mallie Brown Martin Harvey

Mallie Brown Martin Harvey age 88 of Watertown died Wednesday evening, May 8, 2019 at Tennova Health Care in Lebanon. Born June 21, 1930 in Liberty, TN, she was the daughter of the late Tommy and Nancy Lou Adamson Martin. Mallie was preceded in death by her husband, J. Eldon “Corkey” Harvey on May 15, 2016; brother, Edward Martin and his wife, Jodie; niece, Shirley Johnson and an infant sister. She attended Liberty schools and was a retired supervisor at Robertshaw Lux Time. She later was active in hosting shows and sales for Home Interior products. Mallie is survived by her nieces, Tammie Martin Burger (Anthony) of Smithville and Brenda Whitehead (John) of Watertown; nephew, Harold Ray Johnson (Linda) of Watertown; great nieces and great nephews; Nancy Burger, Nicole (Brandon) Gay and her children, Jaxon, Gunner and Kinslee, Scott (Greta) Whitehead, Josh (Anna) Whitehead, Tara (Landon) Hewitt, Kaye Harman, Austin (Andrea) Johnson and Alex Johnson; several great great nieces and nephews; special friend, Brenda Fogus Adams and husband, John and son, Jim Greer III; caregiver, Pam Northcott; and her little dog, Precious. Funeral services 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Steffee officiating. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. till service time on Saturday. Margie Davis Close

87 year old Margie Davis Close of Olive Branch, Mississippi passed away Wednesday at Methodist Olive Branch in Mississippi. She was a Methodist and was retired after 25 years with the Castner Knott Company in Donelson. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kenneth Clayton and Alan Ray Dupree will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyte Close; parents, Tal and Myrtle Davis; granddaughter, Jamie Hobbs; and six sisters, Marie Robinson, Wilma Cubbins, Ova Driver, Lena Vanderpool, Edith Seals and Alta Vandergriff. Survivors include a daughter, Vickie and Ray Dupree of Mississippi. A son, Jim and Phyllis Close of Mt. Juliet. Two grandsons, Alan and Jessie Dupree of Mississippi and Todd Close of Mt. Juliet. Great grandchildren, Bailey Hobbs of Mt. Juliet, Mikee Brown of Murfreesboro, and Emma Grace Dupree of Mississippi. Two great great grandchildren, Brinley Brown and Rilynn Evans of Mt. Juliet. Two brothers-in-law, Paul Close of Smithville and Otis Close of McMinnville. Two sisters-in-law, Doris Estes of Smithville and Margie and A.W. Patterson of Mt. Juliet. Ernest Ray Terrell

Ernest Ray Terrell, 85, of Hermitage passed on May 2, 2019, preceded six months earlier by his cherished wife of 65 years Marjorie Spencer Terrell.  Born August 29, 1933, to John and Arlena (Ashburn) Terrell in Smithville, Ray retired after a long and distinguished career at the Tennessee Department of Transportation as Executive Director, Bureau of Planning and Developmentin Nashville. He was a member of First Baptist Church Mt. Juliet. A man of great integrity, respect, know-how, strength and leadership, he was devoted to his family and public service. Survivors include his children, Shain (Clint) Dennison and Michael (Donna) Terrell; grandchildren, Nathaniel Dennison and Lauren Terrell; great-granddaughter, Luca; sisters Lela Summers, Betty Moss and Nell Medley; sister-in-law Montie Estes and close nieces and nephews. As he requested a graveside service for family was held in Smithville with Reverend Billie Friel officiating. Honorary pallbearers included David Terrell, Pat Wallace, Mark Wallace,  Michael Terrell, Clint Dennison and Nathaniel Dennison. DeKalb Funeral Chapel in charge of the arrangements.




Jack Watkins

Jack Watkins age 86 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, May 7, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER of a sudden illness.  He was born September 22, 1932 to his parents, the late Doyle D. and Clyda Evelyn Lawrence Watkins.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Johnny Barry and brother, Wesley Watkins.  Jack was a faithful member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, a U.S. Air Force and Navy Veteran and retired from Lifeway Christian Resources as an Account Receivables Manager.  Jack love walking and running.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his  wife of 38 years, Frankie Watkins of Smithville, daughter, Danita (Claude) Baham of Lilburn, GA; step-daughter, Melissa (Eddie) Branscomb of Clemons, NC; granddaughter, Julia Baham and grandson Joshua Baham; 8 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Wallace Watkins of Illinois, Lawrence Watkins and Richard Watkins both of Arkansas; sister, Millicent Willbrand of Illinois.  Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Chad Ramsey officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 3 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Billy Roy Sutton

Billy Roy Sutton, age 73, of Smithville passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville. He was a Methodist, veteran in the Army National Guard, a member of AmVets and the Moose Lodge 1725.  He was also employed by Bob’s Central Heat and Air. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 8 at 2 pm at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with interment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Ruth Young Sutton; Sister: Betty Swan, Nephew: Brian Swan. Survivors include his wife: Linda Redmon Sutton of Smithville; 1 Sister: Sue McCoig of Smithville; 1 Brother: Danny (Teresa) Sutton of McMinnville; 4 Nieces: Michelle (Brandon) Patton of Rock Island, Kati (Zach) Minton of McMinnville, Angela (Kevin) Harvey of Lebanon, Ashley (Michael) Lich of Old Hickory; 2 Nephews Stevie and Tonya Swan and Kyle and Taylor Sutton of McMinnville; 1 Brother-in-law: Leonard Redmon of Lebanon; Several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins also survive. Visitation with the Sutton family will be on Tuesday from 2-8pm and Wednesday 10am-2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses in memory of Billy. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
