Jo Dean Cook Dutton, 87, of Gassaway passed away Thursday, April 09, 2020 at Vanderbilt Hospital. She was born in DeKalb County.

She is survived by her daughter, Jama (Gary) Hancock of Gassaway; Grandchildren, Emily Hancock of Gassaway & Matthew (Alex) Hancock of Smithville; Great Grandchildren, Porter, Cash and Weston Hancock; Siblings, Gene (Dean) Cook of Smithville, Rosa Lee Davis of Liberty, & Doug (Janie) Cook of Smithville, Beatrice Laperouse of Arizona, Eddie Cook of Smithville, Jimmy (Helen) Cook of Liberty, & Wilma (Bob) Mykleby of Arizona; Special Nieces, Melissa Ferrell and Judy McGee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Callie Lee Murphy Cook; and Sister, Ann Cook Miller.
Jo Dean was retired from Kingston Timers. She was a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ, an active member of the Gassaway Community and was known as one of the “Gassaway Girls”. She loved to quilt, put puzzles together and was always the life of the party.

Graveside Services will be 2 PM Monday, April 13, 2020 at Sycamore Cemetery with Gary Hancock officiating.

Due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, no visitation will be held at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gassaway Church of Christ, Sycamore Cemetery or Gassaway Community Center & Fire Hall .

Ms. Joann Pack Odom, age 86 of Smithville passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at her residence.

Ms. Joann was born on April 30, 1933 in Smithville to her parents, the late Oscar & Mattie Tittsworth Pack. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church.

In accordance with the Executive Order Number 17 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public visitation with the family. A private Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Whorton Springs Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyte Odom and a son, James. Edward Odom. 2 Brothers, Kenneth Pack & David Pack. Survivors include a Son, Richard (Jann) Odom of Alabama & 2 Daughters, Regina Odom of Smithville and Renee Odom of Georgia. 4 Grandchildren, Chad (Julie) Hendrixson of Smithville, Ashley Sward of Hendersonville, Olivia Odom of Alabama & Nathan Pifer of Georgia. 2 Great Grandchildren, Maggie Hendrixson of Smithville and Leena Pifer of Georgia.

Mr. Wayne “Pea Ridge” Estes, age 59 of White Bluff, TN and a DeKalb County native passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Tri Star Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN.

He was born on March 5, 1961 in DeKalb County to his parents, the late Homer Estes & Susie Johnson Farris. Mr. Estes formerly worked in the tree service industry.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his 2 Sisters, Diane Horn & Trena Barrett. Survivors include 2 Sisters, Denise Maynard of Liberty & Renee Keaton of Smithville. Step Father, Robert (Paula) Farris of Smithville. 3 Aunts, Nell Hale of Smithville, Eula Presley of McMinnville & Christine Murphy of Liberty. Uncle, Toy (Fay) Lawson of Liberty. Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins also survive.

Mr. Estes family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be announced at a later time.

Edward Frazier age 94 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord very peacefully Friday morning, April 3, 2020 at his residence. Edward was born March 13, 1926 to his parents, the late Robert Lee and Hassie Pearl Hubbard Frazier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son, Edward Frazier, Jr.; step-grandson, Troy Hinton; sister, Ruby Smithson and brother, James Frazier. Edward was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church, Former Smithville Mayor and Councilman, member of the American Legion Post 122, member of the Nurseryman’s Association for many years, owner of Frazier Brothers Nursery and he was involved in many civic organizations through the years. He is survived by his wife, Frances Frazier of Smithville; daughter, Susan (Jerry) Hinton of Smithville; grandson, Rance (Annette) Kelly, Jr. of Huntsville, AL; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Caroline Kelly; 1 step-grandson, David (Crystal) Hinton of Prattville, AL; 3 step-great-grandchildren, William, Michael and Wyatt Hinton; twin brother, Edsel Frazier of Smithville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. As much as Mr. Edward was in the public and loved people, Due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus and the Governor’s Executive order of 10 people or less for public gatherings, there can only be a private family Graveside Service held at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Donald Owens officiating and Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Gideon’s International, Dry Creek Baptist Church or Smithville First Baptist Church in memory of Edward. 35 year old Joshua Rhyan Cripps passed away Thursday March 26, 2020, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a construction worker. In accordance with the Executive Order Number 17 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public visitation with the family. There will be a private graveside service for Joshua on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the Linder-Hodges Family Circle Cemetery in DeKalb County with Bro. Mike Carpenter officiating.  Joshua was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Doris Cripps, and aunts, Melissa Cripps and Mary Sue Hodges Guff. He is survived by his mother, Barbara and Billy Stewart of Smithville; father, Joey and Staci Cripps of Dowelltown; sisters, Sabrina Cripps, Nicole and David Cobb, and Jessica and Barrett Holubek, all of Smithville; brothers, Justin Goodman, Marcus Cripps, and Alex Cripps, all of Smithville; maternal grandparents, Homer Hodges and Patricia Linder, of Smithville; paternal grandparents, Billy Joe and Ann Cripps, of Dowelltown; nephew, Layne Cobb; nieces, Kaydanze Cobb, Raylen Holubek, all of Smithville and Kayleigh Goodman of Alexandria. In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. Frances J. McBride age 85 of Hermitage and a native of Smithville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2020 at her residence. She was born August 17, 1934 to her parents, the late Lonnie Clifton and Josie Hullett Braswell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl McBride; 2 children, Patricia Gail McBride and Ronnie McBride; grandson, Andrew McBride Ferris and sister, Mary Threadgill. Fances was a hairdresser and homemaker, she attended The Gathering in Smithville until she moved to Heritage in 2015. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters, Cindy (Grover) Moss and Angie (Rob) Havener both of Hermitage; 2 nieces, Pam (Glen) Beeler and Nina Zweep; 2 brothers-in-law, John (Mary) McBride of Mt. Juliet and Charles (Marie) McBride of Brentwood. Due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus and the Governors Executive Order 17, the family will be having a Private Graveside Service at Whorton Springs Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alive Hospice, in memory of Ms. Frances.
