65 year old Jackie Lee Linder of Alexandria passed away Tuesday at Trousdale Medical Center. He was a Southern Baptist and a self employed construction worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Adcock Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Linder was preceded in death by his parents, Classie and Flossie Bain Linder; siblings, J.C. Linder, Ruby Gerrard, Martha Caldwell, and Joe Linder. Survivors include  five children, Chris and Jamie Linder of Gallatin, Teresa Gibbs and Larry Durnley of Hartsville, Benjamin and Alicia Linder of Gallatin, Amanda and Cam Linder of Gallatin,  and Sandy Keen of Nashville. Fifteen grandchildren, T.J. and Brittany Gibbs, Logan and Destiny Gibbs both of Hartsvile, Nikki Green of Alabama, Bennie Elaine Linder of Gallatin, Frankie and Mary Linder of Lebanon, Cameron Linder and Zoe Linder of Lafayette, Erica Cheyanne Linder, Jayden Taylor, Zachery Taylor, Calee Lenae Linder, Cason Linder, Zayne Bennett, Taylor Bennett all of Gallatin, and Brooklynn Keen of Westmoreland. Three great grandchildren, Kayson Gibbs of Hartsville, Aryia Oreo Linder of Gallatin, and Aspen McFarland of Gallatin, companion, Kathy Swain and her children Ronnie, Brittany, and Erica. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, all donations please be made to the funeral home to help with burial expenses.

Ms. Louise Hendrixson age 80 of Smithville passed away Wednesday afternoon September 26, 2018 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville.  She was born August 6, 1938 to her parents, the late Johnny and O’Fallon Pinegar.  She was a Baptist and retired from Nursery work.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband JD Hendrixson; Children: Randall and Jerry Hendrixson; Sister: Dean Vanatta; Half-brother: Jay L. Young.  Funeral services will be held 11:AM Saturday September 29, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Thomason officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be Friday 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:AM until time of the service at 11:AM.  Survivors include Sons: Bobby (Joyce) Hendrixson of Dibrell, Phillip (Roxanne) Hendrixson of Smithville, Ricky Hendrixson of Smithville; Grandchildren: Michael, Daniel, Ricky, Billy Michael, Amanda, Dane, Nelson, Jayme, Travis, Scotty, Cory, Natasha; Sister: Gladys Young of Smithville: Several Great-Grandchildren, Special nieces and nephews also survive.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

W. Doyle Smith, age 95 died peacefully on September 25, 2018 at NHC Healthcare. He was a resident of the Webb House Retirement Center,

He is survived by his children, Barbara and Jim Wall, Brenda and Dr. Doug Hooper of Smithville and Al and Toni Smith of Huntsville, Alabama.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Bryon, Brooke, Daniel, Justin, and Matt and three great grandchildren, Victoria, Caroline, and Knox.

A native of Smithville, he was born February 22, 1923 to Isaac A. and Callie Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melford Stone Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Othel Smith and sisters, Alvilda Hendrixson, Beulah Hendrixson, and Maurene Tramel, and a grandson Robert Allen.

He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his service, he attended Tennessee Technological University and graduated earning a B.S. in Agriculture.

After graduation, he was a representative for the Tennessee Farmer’s Cooperative and the Agrico Chemical Company. His career made a significant change when he was asked to relocate to Ohio. Instead of relocating, he accepted a position at DCHS subsequently becoming assistant principal and eventually Director of the Vocational School.

He and his wife created a scholarship at Tennessee Tech given each year to a DCHS graduating senior. With this endowment lives of young people will be forever changed just as his was as a young adult after the war.

After retirement he was elected to the executive board of the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association and served the local chapter in many capacities.

He was active in civic and community organizations serving on the Caney Fork Electric Board, Chamber of Commerce, and Liberty Masonic Lodge #77. He was also an active member of the American Legion serving many years as the Girls and Boys State coordinator.

He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church, the Friendship Class, and he served on various committees.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 9-10 a.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home followed by the funeral Friday at 11 a.m. also at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Michael Eugene Evans age 44 of Smithville passed away Saturday afternoon, September 22, 2018 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER.  He was born May 27, 1974 to his parents, Randall Carl Evans and Dian Anderson Short.  Mike worked as an Automotive Technician with Nissan and was disabled.  He is survived by his wife, Kayla Evans of Smithville; 6 children, Krestin Evans of Smithville, Trenton Evans and Allie Evans both of Murfreesboro, Brooklyn Barnes of Smithville, Stormy Evans of Carthage and James Lane of Smithville; mother, Dian Short of Murfreesboro; father, Randy Evans of Rock Island; grandmother, Joyce Bugg of Murfreesboro; grandfather, James Burton of Lancaster; 2 sisters, Jamie Lyn Holt of Murfreesboro and Jessica Stanford of Lebanon; brother, Chris Evans of Smithville.  The family has honored Mike’s request to be cremated and no services are planned.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Oleta Hale age 86 of Smithville passed away Monday afternoon September 24, 2018 at her daughter’s residence.  She was born to her parents, the late Houston Gray and Ella Mae Ashford Hobbs.  She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, worked in a bakery, shirt factory and was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bud Hale; Brothers: Arnold Hobbs, Harrison Hobbs, Bill Hobbs, Sammy Hobbs; Sister: Juanita Ferrell; Son-in-law: Larry “Horse” Ferrell.  Funeral Service will be held 11:AM Thursday September 27, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Leonard Herman and Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Wednesday 12 noon until 8 p.m. and Thursday 9:AM until the time of service at 11:AM.  Survivors include Daughter: Starr Ferrell (the late Larry “Horse” Ferrell) of Smithville; Grandchildren: Jarrod Dodd of Liberty, Sherranna (Bobby) Walker of Winchester; Great-Grandchildren: Hunter, Ava & Sophia Walker; Nieces: Brenda Gregory, Frances (John) Clark, Debbie (Jack) Tauber, Anita Ferrell, Robin Ferrell, Judy Pack, Sandra (Mike) Tisdale, Murriana Herman; Nephews: Doyle Hobbs, Wilburn (Janice) Hobbs, Steven Hobbs; Brother: John Hobbs of Liberty.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
