Jo Anna Pennington

Mrs. Jo Anna Pennington, age 78, of Smithville, TN died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at her residence. She was born November 19, 1941, in DeKalb County, TN, was a member of New Union The Baptist Church, and retired from WalMart. Jo Anna was preceded in death by her parents Buford and Velma Stoner Jaco and her husband Leve L. Pennington.

Survivors include her son James Pennington, daughter Felicia Woodard, grandchildren Daniel (Brandi) Summers, Joshua (Jennifer) Summers, Christopher Cass, and Jessica McKendrick, great grandchildren Payton Summers, Adison Summers, A.J. Summers, and Wyatt Summers, sisters Bettie (John) Michael, Helen (Doug) Smoot, and Phyllis (Larry) Norrod, and brother Charles Jaco all of Smithville, brothers-in-law Howard Pennington of McMinnville and Arthur Bulow of Minnesota, and sisters-in-law Frances Pennington and Cathleen Pennington both of McMinnville, and Carol Pennington of Fairview. Many nieces, nephews, and family friends also survive.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at New Union The Baptist Church. Bro. Keith Sims and Bro. Bobby Pennington will officiate. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery. The Pennington family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home and again Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at New Union The Baptist Church.

Beulah Christine Bates

Beulah Christine Bates age 93 of Smithville, Tn. passed away Friday, March 7th, 2020 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville. Mrs. Bates was a Christian, and a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by Parents James Churchill and Ava Prince Baker, Husband Homer D. Bates, Daughters Linda Sue Bates and Rose Mary Lout. Survivors include Daughters Christine Ripptoe of Smithville, and Wanda and Jerry Marshall of Wilson County, Tn.. Grandchildren Breanna McClure of Smithville, Chrissa Bates of Davidson County, and Toby Johnson of Wilson County, Tn.

Graveside Service will be Friday, March 13th, 2020 1pm at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Tn.. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Danny Lynn Cantrell

Danny Lynn Cantrell, 66, passed away suddenly Sat., March 07, 2020 at his home. He was born in Smithville., Tn.

He is survived by his children, Josh (Windy) Cantrell of Grimsley, Tn. and Kacy Lynn (Jason) Miller of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Ezekiel James Cantrell and Nathanel Cain Cantrell, Ryder Cole Miller and Rowan Carley Miller; mother of his children and his best friend, Connie Cantrell of Woodbury; siblings, Charles (Helen) Cantrell of Smithville, Jack (Lestel) Cantrell of Lebanon, Jo Ann (Doris) Campbell of Woodbury, Jeff (Lori) Campbell of Woodbury; special nephew, Preston Campbell of Woodbury.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, James Roy Cantrell and Cordi Mae Taylor Campbell; stepfather, Jim Campbell; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Reba Cantrell.

He attended the New Short Mtn. Methodist church and worked at Woodbury Farmer’s Co-Op. Danny was retired from Carrier Corp. He enjoyed being outside whether it was working in his garden, riding and raising horses or helping his many friends. Danny never met a stranger. His family, especially his grandchildren, were his world.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Friday, 3/13/2020 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Mitchell and Josh Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Preston Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 2 pm until 8 pm., Thursday, March 12, 2020.

Helen Bertie Johnson

Helen Bertie Johnson age 85 of Smithville passed away Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 at Skyline Medical Center. Mrs. Johnson attended Whorton Springs Baptist Church, and was a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her Husband Jewell Brown Johnson, Parents William Pascal and Patsy Evins Taylor, 2 Sons Doug Johnson and Dwight Cantrell, 2 Brothers James Thomas Paschal and Jimmie Pascal, Sister Willie Pearl Caldwell. Survivors include 4 Sons Dwayne (Barbara) Cantrell of Alexandria, Bennie Cantrell, Jeff Johnson and Terry (Judy) Johnson all of Smithville. 2 Daughters Judy (Tony) Watson of McMinnville and Nita (Joy) Steakley of Coalmont. Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins, 1 Brother Shirley Pascal of Smithville.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 12th, 2020 1pm at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike Carpenter officiating, and burial to follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 1pm-8pm, and Thursday 10am-1pm. Donations can be made to the Whorton Springs Church Building Fund in memory of Helen. Jewell Brown Johnson

Mr. Jewell Brown Johnson, age 80 of Smithville passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born July 31, 1939 in Smithville, the son of the late Henry & Opha Summers Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired from Carrier Corporation and attended the Whorton Springs Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Carpenter will officiate with burial to follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 1pm-8pm & on Thursday, from 10am until the service time at 1pm.

Mr. Jewel preceded his wife, Mrs. Helen Johnson in death by only 2 days prior to her passing on Tuesday, March 10th. Preceding him in death are his Parents, Henry & Opha Redmon Johnson. Son, Doug Johnson. Step Son, Dwight Cantrell. Brother, Willie Johnson & 2 Sisters, Jo Dean Moore & Doris Braswell. Survivors include 2 Sons, Terry (Judy) Johnson & Jeff Johnson all of Smithville. 4 Step Children, Bennie Cantrell of Smithville, Judy (Tony) Watson of McMinnville, Nita (Joy) Steakley of Coalmont, Dwayne (Barbara) Cantrell of Alexandria. Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

Betty Wright Johnson

Betty Wright Johnson age 83 of Smithville passed away Monday morning March 9, 2020 at her residence. She was born October 15, 1936 to her parents, the late Casto Lester & Beulah Hudson Fowler. She was a retired shirt factory worker and a Baptist. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Johnson; 2 Siblings, Willie Vaughn (Gene) Young, Lester (Arline) Fowler. Funeral services for Ms. Johnson will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. David Mahan & Mike Carpenter officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 P.M. Survivors include 3 children, Billy (Angela) Johnson of McMinnville, Pat (Donnie) Cantrell and Johnny Ray (Margaret) Johnson both of Smithville; Grandchildren, Ashley LeFevers, Erica (Jason) Bell, Elicia (Kenneth) Kinnaird, Josh Johnson, Heather Lankford; Great-Grandchildren, Braelyn & Bentley LeFevers, Ensley Kinnaird, Logan Johnson, Colten Lankford, Jayden Johnson, Sadie, Chevelle & Bentley Judkins; Sisters-in-law, Josephine Cantrell & Helen Poss; Special Family: Eddy Glenn (Stephanie) Driver, Shelby & Saleen; Several nieces and nephews also survive.
