85 year old Taye Crook of Alexandria died Saturday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Ronnie Smith and Ricky Scruggs will officiate and burial will be in the Dismal Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor Cronk and Vada Louise Franklin and a son, Billy Wayne. Survivors include her husband of 66 years Charles Crook of Alexandria. Children, Mary Lou (Tom) Baumann of Smithville, Judy Ann Crook of Alexandria, Cathy Bayne of Alexandria, Dan (Angela) Crook of Lebanon, and Brenda (Jonathan) Hammond of Columbia. Grandchildren, Jason Nixon of Knoxville, Jeff (Sarah) Nixon of College Grove, R.D. Bayne of Smyrna, Christopher Crook of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kayla Crook of Lebanon, Joshua Crook of Lebanon, and Austin Hammond of Columbia. Great grandchildren, William Nixon, Mary Nixon, Jordan Bane, and Grace Bayne. Half brothers, Melvin (Joyce) Cronk of Rickman and Larry Keith (Linda) Cronk of Gallatin. Ernie Lee Bouldin, Sr. age 66 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon at his residence. He was born September 27, 1953 to his parents, the late Ernest and Margaret Smartt Bouldin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shane Usrey; infant sister, Pam Bouldin; sister, Dortha Kalmar and brother, Andy Westman. Ernie worked in nursery and construction and retired from Tenneco. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Bouldin of Smithville; son, Ernie Lee Bouldin, Jr “BJ” and Amanda of Tullahoma; 8 grandchildren, Austin Tyler Malone, Samantha Lee Earls, Cameron Isaiah Usrey, Matthew Brylee Usrey, Ernie Lee Bouldin, III, Hunter Grey Bouldin, Noah O’Huck Bouldin, and Deegan Cross Maranta; siblings, Jo Marlin of Hermitage, Myrtle Irvin of Tracy City, Shelia Campbell of Hillsboro, Rena (Earl) Terry of Tracy City, twin sister, Minnie (James) Scheisser of Chattanooga, Earlene (Johnny) Seagroves of Tracy City; several nieces and nephews. The family has chosen a direct cremation and there will be a Memorial Service 2 P.M. Friday, March 20, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Friday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2 P.M. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnny M. Ball age 79 of Smithville, passed away Friday March 13, 2020 at his home from a short illness. He was born June 21, 1940 to his parents, the late Emmett and Mary Horner Ball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Emmett “Jr” Ball, Jay Ball, Tom Ball and Charles Ball; one sister, Ruby McCoig. Johnny was saved and of the Baptist Faith. He was a painter at Arnold Air Force Base and he loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Wade Ball of Smithville; one sister, Reba Large of Powell, TN; sisters-in-law, Wilma Harrell of Woodbury, Marlene Ball of Decatur, Jo Ann (Danny) George of Smithville, Debbie (Jimmy) Reeder of Smithville; special nephews, Dale (Pam) Ball of Dowelltown, Ricky Ball of Woodbury and niece, Jackie (Larry) Elliott of McMinnville and several other nieces and nephews. Caregivers include Debbie Reeder, Dale and Pam Ball and Ricky Ball. Funeral services will be 11:AM Monday, March 16, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Larry Elliott and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers, Dale Ball, Ricky Ball, Scott Anderson, Darrell Ball, Johnny D. Ball and Dell Hacker. Visitation will be Sunday 4 P.M.until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Farrell Adams Dixon age 78 of Smithville and formerly of Orlinda, TN passed away Thursday at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born March 1, 1942 to her parents, the late James Emmett & Evelyn Beatrice Crowder Cook. Mrs. Dixon was a seamstress, a member of Smithville First U.M.C., and a longtime member of Cross Plains U.M.C. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by Son-in-law: David Wiley; Brother: James Cook. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday at the Cross Plains U.M.C. in Cross Plains, Tn., with Revs. David Lunsford, Diana DeWitt & Steve Boutell officiating and burial to follow in the Cross Plains U.M.C. Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Friday 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Saturday 10:AM until time of the service at 2 P.M. at Cross Plains U.M.C., in Cross Plains, TN. Survivors include husband Billy Ray Dixon of Smithville; 6 Children: Lavonna (Victor) Hamilton of Smithville, David (Gayle) Adams of Springfield, Stephanie (Jon) Miller of Middlebury, IN., Carol Wiley of Ridgetop, Billy (Shawn) Dixon, Jr., of Orlinda and Melva (Vince) Toro of McMinnville; 18 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-law: Louise Cook of White House; Father of her children: Bruce Adams of Springfield; her dog: Lucky Buck. Mrs. Jo Anna Pennington, age 78, of Smithville, TN died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at her residence. She was born November 19, 1941, in DeKalb County, TN, was a member of New Union The Baptist Church, and retired from WalMart. Jo Anna was preceded in death by her parents Buford and Velma Stoner Jaco and her husband Leve L. Pennington.
Survivors include her son James Pennington, daughter Felicia Woodard, grandchildren Daniel (Brandi) Summers, Joshua (Jennifer) Summers, Christopher Cass, and Jessica McKendrick, great grandchildren Payton Summers, Adison Summers, A.J. Summers, and Wyatt Summers, sisters Bettie (John) Michael, Helen (Doug) Smoot, and Phyllis (Larry) Norrod, and brother Charles Jaco all of Smithville, brothers-in-law Howard Pennington of McMinnville and Arthur Bulow of Minnesota, and sisters-in-law Frances Pennington and Cathleen Pennington both of McMinnville, and Carol Pennington of Fairview. Many nieces, nephews, and family friends also survive.
Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at New Union The Baptist Church. Bro. Keith Sims and Bro. Bobby Pennington will officiate. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery. The Pennington family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home and again Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at New Union The Baptist Church.

Beulah Christine Bates age 93 of Smithville, Tn. passed away Friday, March 7th, 2020 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville. Mrs. Bates was a Christian, and a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by Parents James Churchill and Ava Prince Baker, Husband Homer D. Bates, Daughters Linda Sue Bates and Rose Mary Lout. Survivors include Daughters Christine Ripptoe of Smithville, and Wanda and Jerry Marshall of Wilson County, Tn.. Grandchildren Breanna McClure of Smithville, Chrissa Bates of Davidson County, and Toby Johnson of Wilson County, Tn.
Graveside Service will be Friday, March 13th, 2020 1pm at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Tn.. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
