Robert Thomas Applegate

Robert Thomas Applegate, age 80 of Aberdeen, Ohio, died Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Kentucky.  He worked in the grocery business for fifty-two years and worked for many area grocery stores including the former Clyde’s Super Value.  He was also a member of the Sedden United Methodist Church in Maysville, Kentucky, a member of the Masonic Lodge 535 in Rome, Ohio, a member of the Scottish Rite of Columbus, Ohio, a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 29 and he was a Shriner.  Mr. Applegate was born January 24, 1939 in Portsmouth, Ohio the son of the late Glenn and Ara (Vaughters) Applegate.  He was also preceded in death by one daughter – Karen Sue Rigsby; one brother – Joe Applegate and a son-in-law – Roger Gifford.

Mr. Applegate is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years – Phyllis (Wheeler) Applegate; two daughters – Beverly Gifford of Ripley, Ohio and Sandra Pumpelly of Aberdeen, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one brother Michael Applegate (Kathleen).

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio.  Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio with the funeral service at 1:00 P.M.  Interment will follow the funeral service in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio.

Willie Ray Matthews age 65, passed away at his residence in Rock Island, Thursday October 17, 2019. He was born December 22, 1953 to his parents the late Willian Junior and Betty Davis Matthews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Matthews, Patricia Shoemake, Jena Hesson, Helen Ervin, and Brenda Taylor; brothers, Terry Murphy, William Matthews. He worked as a nurseryman. He is survived by his son, Brent (Rhonda) Matthews of Woodbury; grandchildren,  Madison and Hunter Matthews; sisters, Pamela Cain, and Kathy Murphy; brothers, Randall Neal, Roy Matthews, James Matthews, and Doug Murphy; several Aunts, Uncles, and cousins also survive; caregivers, Steve Quick, Henry “Bubby” Ratleph, Teresa Parker, and Rick Sweeny. Funeral services will be Monday October 21, 2019 at 1:PM with Bro. Bobby Thomason officiating at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 1:PM until 8:PM and on Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with the funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Dwight Walker age 70, passed away October 15, 2019 at Hospice of Chattanooga. He was born June 17,1949 to his parents the late Cecil and Maggie Green Walker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, J. B. Walker, Charles Walker, and Cordell Walker; sisters, Lera Arnold, Milbie Walker, and Fay Griffin. Mr. Walker was affiliated with Little Creek Baptist Church and worked at Avco for 28 years. He is survived by his wife, Minnie M. Walker of Altamont; children, Shana (Dennis) Speck of Sparta, Chad (April) Walker of Centertown; 2 step-sons, David Burnett and Greg Burnett both of Altamont; grandchildren, Jacob Speck, Joshua Speck, Hunter Walker, Kadance Walker, Kloee Walker and Thea Anderson; step-grandchildren, Jessica Orlando, Justin Paul Burnett and Zackry Burnett; brothers, Douglas Walker, Jerry Walker, and Ronnie Walker all of Smithville; sister, Shirley Cook of Smithville. Funeral services will be Friday October 18, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dowel Barrett and Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jane Tittsworth Rawls, age 85 of Hermitage, Tennessee, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019.

Mrs. Rawls was born in DeKalb County, Tennessee to the late Haskell Brown Tittsworth and Maudell Parker Tittsworth.  She retired from the State of Tennessee after thirty years of service.  Mrs. Rawls was selfless, family oriented, and a great cook.  She loved reading good books.  She was an excellent wife, mother and “Morning.”

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two stillborn children, Lee Brown Rawls and Gary T. Rawls; brother, Billy Eugene Tittsworth; and sister, Ellen Faye Cantrell.

Mrs. Rawls is survived by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Jim “Sonny” Rawls; daughter, Jennifer Rawls; grandson, Jackson Rawls; sisters, Betty T. Hale and Sandra T. Jones; brother, Brownie (Lillian) Tittsworth; best friend since 1953, Becky Malone; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm with visitation prior from 10:00 am until the time of service.

A Celebration of Life will also be held at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville, Tennessee on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 3:00 pm with visitation prior from 12:00 pm until the time of service.

Lillian Nichole Ward age 47 of Smithville and a former resident of McMinnville, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019 in Smithville.  She was born October 19, 1972 to her parents, Charles Edward White and the late Lisa Northcutt White.  In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Ward; grandparents, Orange and Opal Northcutt; nephew, Chris Ward; niece, Crystal Rogers; mother-in-law, Ruth Ward.  She was disabled.  Survivors include children, Kimberly Ward of Smithville, Chandra Ward and Zachary Ward both of McMinnville; grandchildren, Lyberty King, Averyona King, Taylor Reeder, Parker Ward; dad, Charles Edward White of McMinnville; brothers, Charlie White, Jerry White and Eric White all of McMinnville; nieces and nephews, Johnathan and Alyssa White, Brittany andHunter Pinkard, Eric Rogers, Jason and Jeffery Ward, Jessica Roop and Brandon Cripps.  Funeral services will be 4:30 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ruby Nell Reynolds age 92 of Dowelltown passed away Sunday morning October 13, 2019 at N H C of Smithville. She was born October 14, 1926 to her parents, the late William Carl and Geneva Walden Gibbs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Reynolds; children, Grace Murphy, and John Robert Reynolds; grandchildren, Annetta Kilgore, and Ronnie Lee Murphy; sister, Margie Reynolds; brothers, Jr. Gibbs and Danny Gibbs. Ms. Reynolds was a member of Faith Congrational Methodist Church, worked in factories and was a homemaker. She is survived by her children, William Floyd (Willie Jo) Reynolds of Liberty, Bernice Hendrixson of Dowelltown, and Helen Rose (Mark) Blanchard of Dowelltown; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Jennings of Hermitage, DeEtte Shelton of Dowelltown, Jewell Ponder of Smithville, and Alma Montgomery of Dowelltown; brother, Billy Gibbs of Dowelltown; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 2:PM Wednesday October 16, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2019 1:PM until 8:PM and on Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
