Alice Puckett Foster

Ms. Alice Puckett Foster age 96 of Smithville passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at The Webb House in Smithville. She was born August 30, 1921 to her parents, the late Elbridge Kiah and Bonnie Elizabeth Tittsworth Puckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Foster; grandson, John Richard Foster; 2 sisters, Jo Bradford and Christine Prichard; 2 brothers, Ernest Puckett and Wilburn Puckett. Ms. Alice was an elementary school educator for over 40 years, member of the DeKalb County Retired Teachers and member of the Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 sons, Brent (Cheryl) Foster of Lebanon, Mike (Wanna) Foster of Smithville and Rickey Foster (Stephanie Rhodes) of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Kelli (Jamie) Bullard, Lee Foster (Ruby Stewart) and Michele (Kevin) Carson; 4 great-grandchildren, Brady Foster (Emilee McBride), Elijah, Micah and Kiah Carson; several nieces, nephews also survive. Funeral services celebrating Ms. Alice’s life will be 1 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 3 PM until 8 PM and Tuesday 9 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Relay for Life or Imagination Library in memory of Ms. Alice. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Floyd Eugene “Gene” Lockhart

Floyd Eugene “Gene” Lockhart age 62 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday evening at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born April 14, 1955 in Rutherford County. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Ina Marie Dillon, step-father, James Dillon, adoptive father, Richard Lockhart; 2 step-mothers, Frances Lockhart and Reba Lane and special friend, Sharon Thompson. He attended New Life United Pentecostal Church and was a cabinet shop worker. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Lockhart of Smithville; 5 children, Ashley (Scott) Cantrell of Smithville, Jay Lockhart of Readyville, Sean, Jason and Tony Skaroupka all of Smithville; adopted son, Bruce Cantrell of Smithville; 8 grandchildren, William and Kaitlyn Farley, Kevin Felts, Bailey Bond, Blake Bond, Kelie Reeder, Quinten Lawrence and Ricky Skaroupka; father, Floyd Lane of Smyrna; 5 brothers, Tulley Lane of Murfreesboro, Ronnie Lane of Smyrna, Randy Lane of Murfreesboro, Mike Lane of Murfreesboro and Jon Newsome of Smyrna; 3 sisters, Connie Lane Warner of Eagleville, Annette Lane of Murfreesboro and Missy Lane of Murfreesboro; special friends, Nelda Pitts, Darlene Cantrell, Tim Segal, Oz Segal and Goob Segal; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The funeral arrangements for Mr. Lockhart are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Carlon Ras Melton

Carlon Ras Melton age 77 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning, April 12, 2018 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born August 18, 1940 to his parents, the late Richard and Ruth West Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Melton; 3 step-daughters, Darice Cantrell, Fran Melton and Kathy Martin; 2 brothers, Harlon and James Melton; 2 sisters, Anna Belle “Ann” Young and Ella Rich. Carlon was a member of the Smithville Church of God and retired from Carrier. He is survived by his wife, Mainell Melton of Smithville; sons, Gentry (Zarita) Melton of Bell Buckle, Keith (Rachel) Melton of Smithville, Josh Isaac Melton of Smithville; step-children, Anita (Donald) Byrge of Sparta, Doyle (Angie) Melton of Walling, Tommy Melton of Smithville, Gina (Craig) Vaughn of Smithville; grandchildren, Preston Melton, Kelby Melton, Olivia Drennan, Dalton Vaughn, Conner Vaughn, Cynthia (Corey) Davis, Matthew (Jessica) Byrge, Steven Melton, Amanda Melton, Ricky Melton, Nick Byrge and Kaylee Byrge; great-grandchildren, Aleka (Kyle) Rice and Maylee Curtis; sister, Eva (Dennis) Roller of Dowelltown; sister-in-law, Gracie Bratcher of Smithville; aunt, Jo Smithson of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services celebrating Carlon’s life will be conducted 2:PM Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Smithville Church of God with Bros. Chris Moore and Graden Kirksey officiating and interment will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday 11 AM until 8 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and on Saturday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM at the Smithville Church of God. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Joel Thomas “Joey” George

Joel Thomas “Joey” George age 55 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 2, 1962 to his parents, Dorothy Cook George and the late Emmett Lee George. He was a Baptist and a construction worker. He is survived by 4 children, Brandy Brower of Washington, Sheena Roper of Smithville, Britany George of Sparta and Seth George of Smithville; 9 grandchildren; mother of his children, Becky George of Smithville; mother, Dorothy George Wooden of Alexandria; 2 brothers, Jeff and Michael George both of Alexandria; several nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. The family has honored Joey’s request to be cremated and there will be a Memorial Service 2 PM Thursday, April 19, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 12 Noon until the time of the memorial service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




JoAnn Pittman

April 6, 2018

72 year old JoAnn Pittman of Smithville passed away Friday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the New Home Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from the DeKalb County Board of Education. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Keith Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Lillie Mae White Ervin; brothers, Mack Ervin, R.J. Ervin, Alvie Ervin, Red Ervin, Marlon Ervin, and W.B. Cantrell; sisters, Betty Wilson, Ruby Conway, and special companion Charles Ayers. Survivors include a daughter, Angie and William Meadows of Smithville. Grandchildren, Stephanie and Billy Tiner of Smithville, Brandon Rackley and companion Kim Wyatt of Smithville. Great granddaughter, Sophia Ann Tiner of Smithville. Sister-in-law, Rebecca Ervin of Smithville. Nephews, Ralph and June Vaughn of Murfreesboro, Douglas and Barbara Ann Ervin of Smithville, and Randy Conway. Nieces, Kimberly and Mark Violet of Smithville, Tracy and Jay Thibodeaux and Carol Landolt all of Texas. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Debra Ella Hayes

58 year old Debra Ella Hayes of Rock Island passed away Thursday at St. Thomas Hospital West, Nashville. She was employed by Tenneco and a member of the Shepherd of Hills Lutheran Church in McMinnville. The family has chosen direct cremation. Services will be announced at a later date. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Donald Hayes and Joyce Wilma Litchenberg Arnold; infant son; paternal grandparents, Charles and Blanche Sims Hayes; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Ella Fischer Litchenberg; uncle, Ronald Litchenberg; and aunt, Carolyn Hayes. Survivors include three sisters, Donna I. and Robby Lawson of Rock Island; Denise P. and George Noland of Claremore, Oklahoma; and Denell R. and Jason McDonald of Claremore, Oklahoma; one brother, Christopher W. and Cindy Tiepelman of San Springs, Oklahoma; two uncles, William and Sharon Litchenberg of Florissant, Missouri and David and Carolyn Litchenberg of St. Louis, Missouri. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
