80 year old Sarah Ponzell Usrey of the Belk Community passed away Thursday at her residence. She was retired from Genesco. Usrey was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church and the Smithville Business and Professional Women’s Club. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Interment will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Mrs. Usrey was preceded in death by her husband, Arzie Usrey; and her parents, Brackett and Nadene Luna. Survivors include two daughters, Deana and Jack Green of Smithville and Cindy and Myron Rhody of Dowelltown; one son, Rickey and Daphanee Usrey of Centertown; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Harold and Linda Luna of Smithville; and one sister Louise Wright of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Usrey to the DeKalb County Relay for Life, the New Union The Baptist Church, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Catherine Deloris Newby

74 year old Catherine Deloris Newby of Smithville passed away Monday at NHC Smithville. She was a life long resident and public servant of DeKalb County. Newby was retired from the DeKalb County Clerk’s Office and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Donnie Kelly will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Linnie Reeder Summers; a son, Dennis Ellis; and two brothers, Junior Summers and Lairey Summers. Survivors include a son, Shannon Newby of Smithville. Granddaughters, Natasha and David Miller, Brandy Newby, and Shelley Newby all of Smithville. Sisters, Helen and David Fox of Smithville and Dianne and Ricky Taylor of Murfreesboro. Great grandchildren, Autumn Reinhart and Steven Miller of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Jimmy Bazel Atnip

Jimmy Bazel Atnip age 83 of Watertown died Sunday morning, May 20, 2018 at his residence. Born Oct. 13, 1934 in Dekalb County, he was the son of the late Willie Allen Atnip and Josephine Summers Atnip. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jodene Dodd Atnip; daughter, Phylllis Atnip; son, Tony Atnip; sisters, Nelda Atnip, Lorene Taylor and Vada Thomas; brothers, Grady, T.J. and Willie Allen Atnip, Jr. Jimmy attended schools in Dekalb and Wilson County, he was a graduate of the Hartsville Vocational School and received a Blue Print degree. Jimmy was a welder and pipe fitter with Union 572 in Nashville. He was a US Army veteran and served in the Tennessee National Guard. Brother Atnip has served as pastor of Ramah Baptist Church for the past 35 years. He was a member of Comer Lodge No. 417 and a Scottish Rite Mason. He is survived by his children, Elaine (Ray) Crook of Lebanon, Greg Atnip of Watertown, Michelle Wolfe of Watertown; grandchildren, Niki Kadlubowski, Eric and Steven Atnip, Joshua and Jacob Wolfe, Trina Waldorf, Tosha Caruthers, Ashley Dickens, Audrey Pitts; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Dean Thomason of Smithville; sister-in-law, Judy Dodd and nieces and nephews. Funeral services 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Bro. Larry Self officiating. Visitation 3-8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. till service time on Tuesday. Pallbearers, Kenneth Christian, Terry Vaught, Joe Turner, Don Shipper, Bobby Crook, Bob Lemott, Mark Christian, Johnny Reeder. Honorary, Jimbo Robertson and the Deacons and Members of Ramah Baptist Church. Interment at Hearn Hill Cemetery.
Ricky James Stewart

55 year old Ricky James Stewart of Smithville passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a Baptist and mechanic and owner of Rick’s Automotive. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Nathan Thomason will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Rick was a dedicated family man. He was forever in love with his wife. His boys were the highlight of his days. He loved being able to guide them in their adventures and teaching them new things. He was looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his customers and would always make sure they were taken care of. He was a devoted friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Mary Sellars Stewart. Survivors include his wife of 29 years Gail Stewart of Smithville. Two sons, Colt and Lacey Stewart and Hunter and Jessica Stewart of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Syrus and Evie Stewart of Smithville and a sister, Patty Hunter of Cookeville. Fannie Mae Huntley

Mrs. Fannie Mae Huntley age 81 of Smithville, TN, died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at her residence. She was born October 12, 1936, in Sparta, TN, was retired from McMinnville Garment Company after 35 years and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Huntley was preceded in death by parents Chatt and Anna Mae Breedlove Cannon, husbands Joe Miller Elliott and Robert Howard Huntley, brothers George Ray Cannon, Joe Earl Cannon, and Franklin Cannon, and granddaughter Haley Lemons.
Survivors include her daughter Janice (Rod) Higham, Smithville, TN, step-daughter Kathy (Jeff) Bond, McMinnville, TN, brother Roy Eldridge Cannon of McMinnville, sister Mary Roddy of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren Edward Lemons and Melonie Lemons, and great-grandchildren Preston Lemons, Peyton Lemons, Braxton Page, Alex Lemons, Emma Marshall, and Will Marshall. Several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Roy Wayne Cannon, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Billie Jean (Rigsby) Judkins

Mrs. Billie Jean (Rigsby) Judkins, age 79, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee. Billie was born on August 12, 1938 in Sparta, Tennessee to William Harrison and Lela Mai (Cantrell) Rigsby.
Billie loved the outdoors. While she was outdoors, she enjoyed working in the yard and sitting on her porch watching the wildlife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of children, whom she loved so dearly. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Billy. She cherished greatly the life that she had been blessed with.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her son, Edwin Judkins; sister, Jane Young and grandson, Jason Stinson.
Billie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy Roy Judkins; daughter, Debbie Lifsey (Randall); son, Michael Roy Judkins (Margaret); five grandchildren, Torie Stokes, Katelyn Hayden, Jamie Parker, Mandy Emery, and Mark Judkins; twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home with an additional visitation held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 12pm until the time of service beginning at 1 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Reverend John Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Brian Parker, Lance Emery, Christian Stokes, Dylan Stokes, Jeremy Stokes and Matthew Hayden.
