Gail B. Clark

Gail B.Clark age 78 passed away Thursday August 9, 2018 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.  She was born April 17, 1940 to her parents, the late Charles Henley and Mary Elizabeth Lambright Bonnell.  She was a member of Christian Renewal Church of St. Simons in Georgia and an RN.  Ms. Clark is survived by 2 daughters: Tracie Hammock  and Rachel Allison both of Smithville; 3 Grandchildren: Angeala Clark, William Jones, Taylor Robinson; Great-Grandchild: Leah Tillett.  The family has honored Ms. Clark’s request to be cremated.  A  Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday August 19, 2018 at Christian Renewal Church in Georgia with Bro. Mike Murray officiating.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Lisa Vickers Gilreath

August 11, 2018

66 year old Lisa Vickers Gilreath of Smithville passed away Saturday at her residence.. She was a Baptist, a Pharmacy Technician, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. She worked 21 years with the Army Security Agency. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jonathon Willoughby will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Loring and Mildred Britton Vickers and a sister, Elaine Vickers. Survivors include a daughter, Stacie Miller of Bradyville. Granddaughters, Elaine Greer, Natalie Miller, and Macy Miller of Bradyville. Brother, Britton Vickers of Michigan. Sister, Marsha Penrod of South Carolina. Special cousins, Barry and Sherry Ricketts of Smithville and special friend, Gary Hawkins. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Richard Ernest Temple, Jr.

August 11, 2018

Richard Ernest Temple, Jr. age 69 of Smithville, passed away Friday morning at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.  He was born October 22, 1948 in Germany.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Cashman Temple, Sr.  He was a retired tow motor operator at Nissan, a member and Sunday School teacher at Calvary Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran.  He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Elaine Temple of Smithville; 3 children, Cheryl Temple of New York, Kelly (Mike) Lawson of Smyrna and Raymond (Carla) Temple of Antioch; 2 step-sons, Brad (Jennifer) Evans and Justin (Brittany) Evans both of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Courtney, Morgan, Emily, Michael and Carson Lawson and Brayden Temple; 6 step-grandchildren, Christiana, Courtney, Riley, Jordan and Mikayla Evans and Allen Evans; 1 sister, Jean Skinner of Massachusetts.  Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Martin officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday  from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church, in memory of Richard.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Scott King

August 11, 2018

Scott King age 48 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning, August 11, 2018 at his residence.  He was born September 2, 1969 to his parents, Judy Clemmons King and the late Charles Houston King.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry D. King, Elvie Eron King, Zack Clemmons and Louise Moses.  Scott was a member of the Assemblies of God and a diesel mechanic.  He is survived by his wife, Michelle King of Smithville; daughter, Grace King of Smithville; mother, Judy King of Athens, AL; sister, Penny (Sammy) Mason of Athens, AL; brothers, Mike (Carol) King of Killen, AL and Charles “Chuck” King of Athens, AL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Louise Prater of Smithville; sister-in-law, Jessica Wright of Cookeville; brother-in-law, Jason (Starra) Hodges of Athens, AL; several nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services will be conducted  4 p.m.Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Glenn Burks officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  



Reverend Jonathan Wayne Spence

August 10, 2018

Reverend Jonathan Wayne Spence, age 48, of Alexandria, TN was born on January 21, 1970 in Grundy, VA. He went to be with Jesus on August 7, 2018 after living with chronic pain for many years.

Rev. Jonathan was a true man of God and had the biggest heart in the world. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and introducing others to Jesus. He was also extremely talented. He was an anointed singer and could play almost any instrument he picked up, including the guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, and piano. He was a dedicated member of the Alexandria Church of God.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Jasmine Zervas Spence and step-son, Damien Sullivan of Alexandria; father, Rev. Clifford and mother, Jean Spence of Brush Creek; daughter, Kelly Spence and grandson, Raymond Nester IV of Detroit, MI; brother, David Spence (Dana) of Lebanon, TN; maternal grandmother, Margie Shortridge of Lebanon, TN, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large extended family also survive.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Paul Shortridge; uncles, Tilford Salyer and Don Shumate; paternal grandfather and grandmother, Melvin and Pearl Spence; and aunt, Judy Woodall.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta with Pastor Cliff Spence and Pastor Freddy Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Hunter Memorial Park in Wilson County. The family will welcome friends from 11am until time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.




W.J. Page

August 10, 2018

78 year old W.J. Page of Smithville passed away Friday at NHC Smithville. He was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church and a retired contractor with Page Brothers Construction. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Rick Lee and Terry Little will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert and Della Atnip Page; wife, Ruthie Mai Page; infant daughter, Teresa Charlene Page; sisters, Ruby Pinegar and Aline Snyder; and brother, William (Bill) Page. Survivors include a son, Glen and Cynthia Page of Smyrna. A daughter, Cindy and Sam Chessor of Centerville. Grandchildren, Sarah Page of Franklin, Lindsey and Alex Guill of Arkansas, and Jacob Page of Smyrna. Sisters, Barbara Vanatta and Helen and Charles Cantrell both of Dowelltown. Sister-in-law, Jo Ann Page of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive and special friend Faye Adkins. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Indian Creek building fund.
