Lenorea Amanda Mullinax passed away on February 16, 2018 at age 33. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from noon until the service. The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother Josh Brown, is 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery will follow the service. Family will serve as Pallbearers.Mrs. Mullinax was a Certified Nursing Assistant and a member of Salem Baptist Church. She loved crafting, singing, and writing songs. She is survived by husband Wesley Mullinax, daughter Krissy Michelle Mullinax, father Jerry (Nancy) Heady, mother Melinda Harrison, brother Daniel Lee Heady, step-brother Will (Chasie) Graham, step-sister Tammy (Josh) Keel, grand-parents Georgia Louise Heady Gill and Jack Lee Heady, in-laws Kenneth and Carolyn Mullinax, and numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by grandparents Erna Virginia and Herbert James Henry.

Jerry Lendon Winfrey, age 75, passed away at his home in Smithville, TN on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 of an apparent heart attack. A native of DeKalb County, he was born February 10, 1942 to the late Lucas and Ruth Moss Winfrey. Mr. Winfrey obtained an associate in arts degree from Cumberland University in 1962 and studied at Austin Peay State College where he received a BS degree in 1964 and a Master of Arts in Education in 1965. In addition, Jerry had one year of advanced studies beyond the Master degree, some of which included several visits to South America with special emphasis on Ecuador and Peru. Jerry’s professional career focused on teaching at the elementary level, all of which was in the DeKalb County School System except for one semester in the Hampton City School System, in Hampton, VA in 1966. After teaching many fourth-grade students over his 32 years of service, Mr. Winfrey retired May 22, 1999. Jerry loved teaching, but he also enjoyed several other activities including collecting antiques and glassware, conducting research on family history with special emphasis on the Winfrey and Moss families, researching and documentingthe history of the First United Methodist Church in Smithville, and discussing or debating political issues. He was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church but also attended the Unitarian Universalist Church in Cookeville with his friend and former vicar, Rev. Mark Pafford. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents (Sidney Brooks and Era Driver Winfrey and Charlie Lee and Ada Foster Moss), Aunts and Uncles. He is survived by several cousins and many special friends. Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated and that a graveside memorial service be held at the Winfrey family section of the Whorton Springs Cemetery at 1:30 PM Sunday, February 18, 2018 with Bro. Mark Pafford officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Justin Potter Library (particularly the Genealogy Room) or the Smithville First Methodist Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. Winfrey. 65 year old Lucion Nokes of Temperance Hall passed away Friday at his residence. Nokes was a member of the Temperance Hall Pentecostal Church and a retired factory worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Chris McMillen and Bill Fowler will officiate and burial will be in the Tubbs Cemetery in Temperance Hall. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nayomia Allen Nokes. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Ray Nokes; two children, Jeffery and Brandy Nokes, and Penny and Randy Bouldin all of Temperance Hall. Five grandchildren, Justin Nokes and Sarah Branch of Elmwood, Malayna Nokes, Jake Nokes, and Will Bouldin all of Temperance Hall and Dustin and Michelle Bouldin of Clarksville. 49 year old Sharon Gail Thomason of Smithville passed away Thursday at Alive Hospice House. She was a member of the Lower Helton The Baptist Church and an employee of Smith Fork Cabinets. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Barry Whiteaker will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Armour, Jr. and a son, Brian Dewayne Thomason. She is survived by a daughter, Brandy Thomason of Manchester. Three grandchildren, Angel Rutland of Smithville, Jayden Anderson of Smithville, and Cason Higgins of McMinnville. Mother, Connie Ruth Armour of Smithville. Brother, John Armour of Smithville and two sisters, Samanda Armour and Joanie Butler of Smithville. 75 year old James E. Hale of Liberty died Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a mechanic at Paschal Farm Equipment and Paschal Farms for 57 years. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Wilson Williams and Charlie Stanton will officiate and burial will be in the Hale Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Hale and Nonnie Cleo Bogle; infant brother, John B. Hale; son, Jamie Carl Hale; sister, Annie Lou Bogle; and a nephew, Greg Bogle. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Shirley Hale of Liberty. Daughter, Glenda and Jeff Curtis of Alexandria. Granddaughter, Savannah Curtis of Alexandria. Brothers-in-law, Tommy Bogle of Liberty and David and Sandra Bain of Smithville. Mary Jane Lindner, 94, departed this life on January 22, 2018 while living at the Webb House Retirement Center in McMinnville TN. She was born to Sylvanus and Marie White on March 29, 1923 in Butte Montana. Growing up in Montana she learned what it was like to grow up during the later frontier days. Her parents taught her the values of travel and education. She received a B.S. degree in Nursing from Montana State University where she met and married the love of her life, Gordon M. Lindner, on May 2, 1944 in a simple ceremony in Great Falls MT. Spring of 2017, they celebrated 73 years of marriage before his death in late May.At Montana State Mary Jane was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and was a member of the Nurses Cadet Corps. Before graduating, with the help of the Red Cross, she established a center for children of war veterans.
During World War 2 she moved to Oak Ridge TN with her husband Gordon who was with the Special Engineering Division, where she continued her nursing career at the Methodist Medical Center. While raising her children, she used her nursing skills assisting the area doctors for vaccinations in schools.
Mary Jane and Gordon moved to the new town of Norris TN in 1949 where she was active in the Norris Religious Fellowship and various activities in the community. A Girl Scout since the age of 7, she was a leader for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, camp director, delegate to the Highland Rim Council and the Tanasi Council. In 2006, she received her 75 year tenure pin from the Tanasi council. She was involved with the Norris Little Theater in costume and set design, worked with Gordon in the Lions Club, and a charter member of the Good Neighbors.
They moved back to Oak Ridge in 1980. There Mary Jane was active in the Chapel on The Hill Church, the Oak Ridge Community Band, The Museum of Atomic Energy, the Holiday Bureau, and volunteered at Methodist Medical Center, the MADD organization, reading at schools, and hospice. Her hobbies included: reading, traveling, sewing, crocheting, and playing Bridge. In 2009, Mary Jane was nationally recognized by the Nature Conservancy for her donation of the family homestead to the organization. In 2010, she received the Church Women United Humanitarian Award.
She is survived by her three children, Gary and wife Martha of Duncan, SC, Rosemary and her husband Raymond of Bainbridge Island ,Washington, and Natalie and her husband Larry Green of Smithville, TN. Six grandchildren survive: Amy Faulkner and husband Todd of Duncan,SC, Wesley Lindner and his wife Jennifer of Jacksonville FL, RaeAnne Nye of Denver CO, Leland Nye and his wife Aleena of Honolulu,Hawaii, Elizabeth Young and her husband Barry of Smithville TN and Tony Green of Orlando FL; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived the Lindsay Hunt family of Australia. Lindsay was a foreign exchange student with the Lindners and has remained a part of the family.
There will be a celebration of Mary Jane’s life on April 7th at the Chapel on The Hill Church in Oak Ridge TN. Rev. Randy Hammer will officiate.
