Ronnie Stephen Walker

Ronnie Stephen Walker age 70 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning February 15, 2022 at his daughter’s residence. He was born May 2, 1951 to his parents, the late Cecil and Maggie Green Walker. He was a long-time nurseryman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife: Gail Walker; Brothers: J.B. Walker, Cordell Walker, Chuck Walker, Dwight Walker, Jerry Walker; Sisters: Faye Griffin, Lear Arnold, Shirley Cook and infant sister: Melbie Walker. Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held 6 PM Friday with Bros. Michael Hale and Dwayne Cornelius officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday 3 PM until the time of the service at 6 PM. Survivors include Children: Penny Walker (Anthony) Cantrell, Scott (Misty) Walker, Shane (Michelle) Walker, Samuel Walker all of Smithville, Marieta (Jacob) Steele of Manchester; Grandchildren: Stephen (Vickey) Barrett, Bradley (Katie) Barrett, Hannah Walker, Isaac Walker, Stacey Wood, Kelley (Brandon) Chapman, Jordan Domanik Ferrell, Kennady Steele, Maddox Steele, Everleigh Steele, Olivia Fields, Ethan Winchester, Levi Walker; 7 Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Doug Walker; Sister-in-law: Patty Walker; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and NO FOOD or DRINKS are allowed in the building. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, in memory of Ronnie. Kenneth Lee Johnson

February 14, 2022

Kenneth Lee Johnson age 67 of Smithville and formerly of North Carolina, passed away Saturday February 12, 2022 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born October 24, 1954 to his parents, the late Charles “Hookie” & Violet Johnson. He was a truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife: Letha Gilpin Johnson; Brother: Larry Johnson; Sister: Darnell Holloway. The family has chosen a direct cremation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in North Carolina. Survivors include 5 Children: Kendra (Scott) Glenn, Kenneth Lee Johnson, II both of Smithville, Sandra Johnson (Bradley) of Ronda, NC, Michael Gilpin of Smithville, Steven Gilpin of Cookeville; Grandchildren: Dalton & Dakota Moore, Reagan & Caleb Johnson, Allyssa Gilpin; Great-Grandchildren: Isabella Moore, Grayson Moore; Sisters: Ruby Mayberry of Stateville, NC, Wanda (Frank) Griffin of Wilkesboro, NC; Brother: Theon Johnson of Wilkesboro, NC. Maureen Cantrell

February 14, 2022

Maureen Cantrell age 91 of Smithville, passed away February 13, 2022. She was born October 16, 1930 to her parents, the late Walter and Ella Adcock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Cantrell, Jr., in April 2008; son Rickey Lynn Cantrell; sister: Marie West. Ms. Maureen was a member of Mt. Hope The Baptist Church and she was a Homemaker. She is survived by sons; Lonnie Cantrell and Ronnie (Elaine) Cantrell both of Smithville; grandchildren: Brent (Melissa) Cantrell of Cookeville, Barry (Bethany) Cantrell of McMinnville; step-grandson: Taylor Miller of McMinnville; great-grandchildren: Evie, Graham, and Ollie Cantrell; step great-grandson: Jackson Greer. Graveside service and interment will be Wednesday February 16, 2022 at 1:00PM at New Union Cemetery with Bro. Dwight Knowles officiating. There will be no visitation or services held at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the members of Avalon Hospice who were so kind and thoughtful in the loving care of Ms. Maureen, especially, Rachel, Nancey, Ashlyn, Tina, and Bobby Sue. Trena Michelle Murphy

Ms. Trena Michelle Murphy age 54 of Smithville, TN passed away Monday morning, February 14, 2022 at her residence.

Ms. Trena was born on August 16, 1967 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Jackie & Catherine Houk Ervin. She was a Freewill Baptist & was formerly an Assembly Line worker at Shiroki Manufacturing.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 2pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will follow at Bonham Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 4-8pm & Wednesday, from 10am until the service time at 2pm.

Survivors include 2 Sons, Jeff (Leigh Ann) Whitefield of McMinnville, TN & Jason (Savannah) Whitefield of Smithville, TN. 4 Grandchildren, Nancy Pease of Morrison, TN, Jesse Whitefield of McMinnville, TN, Addison Whitefield & Alexa Whitefield both of Smithville, TN. 3 Brothers, Ricky Ervin & Randall Ervin both of Smithville, TN & Richard (Diane) Ervin of Smithville, TN. Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




James Edmon Sandlin

February 13, 2022

Mr. James Edmon Sandlin, age 84, a McMinnville resident and Smithville native, was born April 06, 1937, and died February 06, 2022 at the Webb House in Smithville, TN.

He was a farmer, a Manufacturing Engineer at A. O. Smith, served his country with the U. S. Marine Corps, was a member of McMinnville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and attended Christ United Methodist Church. J.E. was an avid Tennessee Volunteers sports fan. Mr. Sandlin was preceded in death by parents Johnny Clarence and Nancy Elizabeth Taylor Sandlin, his wife JoAnn Webb Sandlin, and a sister Virginia Ruth Sandlin.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Teresa (Manuel) McCurry of McMinnville and Melanie Matheney of Baxter; four grandchildren, Ryan Palombo, Justin (Kandace) Matheney, Kyle McCurry, and Jarred (Sara) Matheney, great grandchild Maci Rae Matheney, a sister Violet Jo (Melvin) Carr, and sisters-in-law Era Franks and Kathleen Wall. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services were conducted February 12, 2022 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville with his immediate family in attendance. Fay Tucker officiated. Military grave rites were conducted by Marine Corps League Bobby Ray Detachment # 1377.

Peggy Jean Agee

Peggy Jean Agee age 89 of Smithville passed away, Friday February 11, 2022, at Hospice of Chattanooga. She was born November 27, 1932, to her parents the late, Clarence and Louella Caplinger Trapp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Agee; son Roger Agee; sisters, Oleda Duke, Lou Audrey Malone, and Jo Ann Baker; brothers, Johnny Trapp, Mason Trapp, and Donald Trapp. Ms. Agee was a member of Copeland’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, and she was a Homemaker. She is survived by daughter, Sandra (Ronnie) Land of Dunlap; grandchildren, Amy (Davy) Huff of Beech Grove, Mark (Erin) Johnson of Whitwell; step-grandchildren, Jeff (Shannon) Land of Dunlap, Greg (Kelly) Land of Dunlap, and Tim (Martha) Land of Dunlap; great-grandchild, Eliana Johnson; step-great-grandchildren, Savanah and Tanner Land, Mackenzie and Morgan Land, and Briggs and Murphy Land; sister, Judy Johnson of Liberty; brother, Boyd (Linda) Trapp of Smithville; brother-in-law, Vincent Baker of Smithville. Graveside services and interment will be 10:AM Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Whorton Springs Cemetery with Bro, Lanny Tate officiating. There will be no visitation or services held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations to be made to Hospice of Chattanooga in memory of Ms. Agee and those donations may be made by calling or coming by the funeral home.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
