Thomas L. “Tom” Cripps

Mr. Thomas L. “Tom” Cripps age 88 of Alexandria, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday night, January 19, 2019.  He was born April 22, 1930 to his parents, the late Livie and Pearl Elledge Cripps.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Cripps and Carl Cripps; sisters, Hilda Cripps, Allene Keith, Opal Jones, Josephine Cripps and Opha Turner.  Mr. Tom was a Deacon and faithful member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church since 1974.  He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and was a farmer and retired shirt factory worker.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Georgie Cripps; daughter, Tammye (Gary) Whitaker; grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsey) and Tyler (Rebecca) and great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd (Jessie) Cripps; sisters, Corinne Clark and Doris Rowland.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:AM Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bill Robertson and Joel Wood officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, in memory of Mr. Tom.  Visitation with the family will be on Monday 2 P.M. until 7 P.M.and Tuesday 9 AM until the time of the service at 11AM.  The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Avalon Hospice, Adoration Home Health, St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital, Family Medical Center, VA Tennessee Valley HealthCare System, NHC and the caregivers: Valerie, Frances, Belinda and Gail, for the wonderful care and love shown to Tom during this time.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. 




Eugene Joseph O’Neil

Eugene Joseph O’Neil age 86 of Smithville and a native of New York, passed away Friday night, January 18, 2019 at his residence.  He was born February 17, 1932 to his parents, the late Joseph and Alice Fraser O’Neil.  He was a Roman Catholic, a real estate surveyor and former City of Smithville building inspector, member of the Tennessee land surveyors association.  Mr. O’Neil was a retired Major with the United States Army, retiring in 1992.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy O’Neil of Smithville; 2 sons, Matthew (Greta) O’Neil of Acworth, GA and Patrick (Heather) O’Neil of Woodstock, GA; 3 grandchildren, Miranda, Keily and Liam O’Neil; sister, Joan Taylor of New Bern, NC.  The O’Neil family has chosen a direct cremation and there will be a Memorial Prayer Service and Military Honors held 12 Noon, Friday, January 25, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 11:AM until the time of the service at 12 Noon.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




CPL Bryan Tyler Vanhoose

CPL Bryan Tyler Vanhoose age 23, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 in Murfreesboro. He was born June 22, 1995 to his parents, Angela Martin and the late Bryan Vanhoose.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, L.C. Karnes.  Tyler was a personal fitness trainer at MTSU Recreation Center, a junior at MTSU and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in the Middle East.  He was in the 2nd battalion, 6th Marine, Echo Corporation, 2nd platoon and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He is survived by his mother, Angela (Bill) Davis of Quebeck; 2 brothers, Patrick Davis of Telluride, CO and Ben Davis of Nashville; grandmother, Theresa Karnes of McMinnville; grandfather, Stanley (Dee) Martin of Princeton, KY; uncle, Kevin (Amy) Martin of Smithville; cousins, Matt and Westin Wright; beloved pet, Chloe and a host of special friends and Marine Brothers.  Funeral services will be 1:PM Thursday, January 24, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Banks Cemetery with Military Honors.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 5:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 11AM until the time of the service at 1:PM.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Veteran Organization of your choice, in memory of Tyler.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Earl Haskell Rigsby

Earl Haskell Rigsby, age 98, a Columbia, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native was born March 19, 1920 and passed away January 13, 2019 in Maury Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, retired contractor, member of Mt. Elim Baptist Church and son of the late Fred Harold and Hallie Etta Pack Rigsby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Alyne McCoy Rigsby in 1993; second wife, Nancy Roberts Rigsby in 2016; daughter, Mary Etta Martin in 2005; and grandson, Scott Austin Rigsby in 1971.

Mr. Rigsby is survived by children and spouses, Don and Bonnie Rigsby of Smithville, TN, Larry Rigsby of Spencer, TN, Benny Rigsby of Sparta, TN, William Harold “Bill” and Cristina Rigsby of Wartburg, TN and Annette and John Hatfield of Columbia, TN; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Rigsby of the Bone Cave Community and Fred Rigsby, Jr. of the Rocky River Community; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in High’s Chapel with Don Rigsby and Willard Ralph, Jr. to officiate. Interment will follow in Long Cemetery with military grave rites conducted by the Tennessee Air National Guard. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at High’s.

John Herbert Rice

John Herbert Rice age 60 of Liberty, passed away Friday afternoon, January 11, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born November 26, 1958 to his parents, Dorothy Christine Bumbalough Rice Patrick and John Billy Rice. In addition to his father, he was preceded to death by his sister, Sabra Redmon. John was a member of the Alexandria Church of God and a Army National Guard Veteran. He worked in construction. Survivors include 4 children, Holly Key of Alexandria, David Caldwell of Smithville, Tina Hatfield of Smithville and Johnathon Rice of Liberty; 7 grandchildren, Cameron Bailey, Peyton and Brylee Key, Quentin and Bentley Hatfield, Braylyn and Lailynn Rice; mother, Dorothy Patriak of Smithville; 4 sisters, Sandra Jones of McMinnville, Loretta Patrick and Angela Jarvis both of Smithville, Teresa Poss of McMinnville; brother, Jerome Patrick of Smithville. Graveside services will be conducted 11:AM Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Taylor Cemetery with Bro. Cliff Spence officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the Taylor Cemetery for the graveside service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Michael Anthony Alexander

January 13, 2019

Michael Anthony Alexander, age 53, of Woodbury passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He was a native of Dekalb Co.

Survivors include his wife, Christie Lynn Alexander of Woodbury; Son, Erik (Emilee) Buckmeyer of Woodbury; Brother, Brian (Andrea) Alexander of Woodbury; Mother-in-law, Mary Moses of Alexandria; Brother-in-law, Ronnie (Kim) Moses of Cookeville; Nephews & Niece, Hugh Braxton Alexander, Andrew Michael Alexander, Keeley Moses, & Landry Moses; and Favorite Aunt, Joyce Owen of Woodbury.  Several aunts & cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert & Margaret Alexander.

Michael was a mail carrier for United States Postal Service for 28 years in Smithville, owner of Christie Q BBQ & Catering, and a Director of Dekalb Telephone Cooperative.  He loved living life and enjoyed every day.

Funeral Services will be 12 PM Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Sycamore Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 12 to 8 PM, Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the funeral home.
